DIMENSIONS OF
Australian Standard
METRIC UNITS
AS 1737—1975
The following scientific, industrial and governmental organizations and departments
were officially represented on the committee entrusted with the preparation of this
standard:
This standard, prepared by Committee AG/4, Agricultural Tractors and Machinery, was
approved on behalf of the Council of the Standards Association of Australia on
23 December 1974.
Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australian Standards are subject
to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new edit ions as necessary. It is
important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edit ion, and any
amendments thereto.
Full details of all Australi an Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australia
Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazine ‘The Australian
Standard’, which subscribing members receive, and which gives detail s of new publi cati ons, new edit ions
and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards.
Suggesti ons for improvements to Australi an Standards, addressed to the head off ice of Standards Australia,
are welcomed. Noti fi cati on of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australian Standard should be made
without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.
This standard was issued in draft form for public review as DR 74005.

DIMENSIONS OF
SCARIFIER SHARE MOUNTINGS
PREFACE
The scarifier share mounting outlined in this standard was developed by the
Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of New South Wales, following
a survey of existing designs of scarifier shares and mountings. The standard is

published as part of the SAA’s programme for the preparation of standards for the
interchangeability of wearing parts for agricultural machinery.
The standard represents a rationalization of the six major designs currently in use, and
incorporates the single bolt and tang method of attachment which appears to be
peculiar to Australia. This factor, allied to the lack of any work on the subject
internationally, means that this standard is of application only to the Australian farm
implement industry.

(i) the degree of interchangeability of the various makes of shares on the various
makes of scarifiers;
Specification of dimensions is limited to the fulfilment of these aims. The shape of the
mounting was evolved to give the following conditions between the mounting and the
undersurface of a share when bolted in position (see Fig. 1):
(b) Contact in some part(s) of the area between planes AA and BB symmetrically
situated with respect to the longitudinal centreline of the mounting.
(c) Contact in the area bounded by the planes, DD, EE, FF and GG.
(d) Contact in the area bounded by the planes, DD, EE, HH and JJ.
Additional contact in the area bounded by the planes DD, EE, GG and HH is desirable
but not essential to the successful performance of the share mounting.
SPECIFICATION
1 SCOPE. This specification provides the essential dimensions for the portion of
a scarifier share mounting to which removable and interchangeable shares are attached.
