Carbon Emission and Environmental Pollution. Our Environment consists of earth, water, air, plants and animals.

Environmental pollution means adding impurity to environment which creates serious problem in health, safety or welfare of living species. If it continues, the day is not far when our earth will become a graveyard. Carbon is one of the major Pollutants of air. It is not a greenhouse gas on its own. The term carbon here refers to carbon dioxide. Carbon Emission is caused mainly due to the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels such as gas, coal or oil. The smoke is generally discharged from industries, automobiles etc by burning of fossil fuels to create energy. The total carbon which we as individuals are responsible for is called our carbon footprint. In a natural carbon cycle, carbon dioxide is re-absorbed by plants and trees. But due to mass deforestation, plants and trees that are alive now have no chance of absorbing it. The effect of all this extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is that the overall temperature of the planet is increasing. This is largely responsible for green house effect and thus for global warming. The emission of carbon into the atmosphere which causes air pollution and global warming is called Carbon emissions. And on a day-to-day level, the climate is also changing in unpredictable ways. Besides carbon emission, air pollution is also caused due to garbage emitting foul smell, decaying plants and animals etc. Air pollution cannot be checked by individual effort only. It can largely be checked by the Government : : : : : by banning on cutting of green trees, by planting trees in large numbers, by decreasing the number of cars by increasing its cost, by keeping half the existing vehicles off the road for one day in a week, by introducing solar powered vehicles and appliances etc.

Then the Noise pollution which is caused mainly due to harsh sounds of automobile engines and vehicular horns besides improper tuning of musical sets, radios, loudspeakers, T.V. sets etc. Noise pollution can be easily and effectively controlled by individual by practising proper tuning. Water pollution is another one which is caused by allowing the dangerous industrial chemical and biological water wastes to find its way to the rivers and seas. Water pollution can be checked by keeping our rivers and lakes clean. Industrial wastes must also be disposed off in such a way that it does not contribute to pollution of water. Impure water from industries can be sent back for purification and then it can be used for irrigation purpose. Another area polluted is soil. Soil pollution is caused mainly due to reckless application of chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides and unsanitary habits. Soil pollution can be effectively controlled by proper planning in using chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides in agricultural crops, fruit trees, garden and vegetable crops. And let us not forget that even our food is polluted. Food pollution is another problem we are facing today. We suffer from several diseases because of the polluted food items that we take. Let the world think of my humble suggestion in order to reduce pollution: 1. To replace construction of tombstone in all cemeteries by planting trees instead. 2. To make it mandatory for all Govt offices & educational institutions to have plants and trees in all surroundings. In case of space constraint, the terrace must be converted into a green garden and 3. To plant trees all along the divider of the high density vehicular roads and highways where smoke emission is high. Let us all join hands in fighting pollution.
