Macbeth Storyboard (where we got up to)

The King of Scotland, King Duncan hears how Macbeth was brave and loyal when he fought the enemy, the Norwegians. He awards Macbeth the title of the Thane of Glanis for his valour and brave acts.

The old Thane of Cawdor is sentenced to death for being a traitor by helping the Norwegians.

When Macbeth and his friend Banquo were on their way back from the battle, they meet three strange witches, who tell Macbeth that he will become the new Thane of Cawdor and the new king of Scotland. The witches tell Banquo that his descendants will become the future kings of Scotland.

Macbeth wasnt sure that the prophecies were true but soon after he is told by a messenger he is now the new Thane of Cawdor. It seemed that the first part of the prophecy had come true.

Macbeth writes to his wife, Lady Macbeth about the witches prophecies. She becomes excited about becoming queen but fears Macbeth will not kill the King because he isnt ambitious enough. She persuades him to kill Duncan.

The king arrives at the castle, greeted by hosts. A feast is held and most of the guests get drunk. Macbeth realises that Duncan is a good king and abandons his plan to kill him.

Lady Macbeth gets cross with Macbeth for abandoning the plan to kill the king and she calls him a coward. Macbeth then decides to go through with the plan.

Late at night, Macbeth sees an imaginary dagger in front of him. The dagger moves forward and he follows it. It leads him into Duncans room.

Macbeth creeps into Duncans room and murders the king. Lady Macbeth catches him with the dagger in his hands with blood dripping off them and she runs to plant the dagger on the servants.

When Macduff arrives at the castle he finds Duncans corpse and raises the alarm. Duncans sons, Malcolm & Donalbain escape from Scotland, worried they could be suspected for killing the king.

Macduff doesnt trust Macbeth, and he suspects Macbeth could be to blame.

Macbeth is now crowned the new king of Scotland.

The three witches prophecies make Macbeth believe that he must kill his best friend Banquo and his son Fleance because the witches say they may become future kings of Scotland. He orders two henchmen to carry out the job.

But, Fleance escapes, which leaves Macbeth very angry, and also concerned that the prophecies could come true.

Macbeth holds a banquet, in which he sets a place at the table for Banquo, even though he knows he is dead. However, in the seat he put out for Banquo he sees the gory ghost of his friend, and he shouts in horror at the ghost. The guests suspect he has a guilty conscience.

Macbeth decides to visit the witches again, and they show him three apparitions.

The first, which is a head with some armour, later represents Macbeths own severed head. This tells him to beware Macduff.

The second is a bloody child, likely to be Macduff, torn from his mothers womb. This tells him he will never be defeated by anyone born of woman.

The third is a crowned child, holding a tree. This is supposed to represent Malcolm and Birnam Wood. This one means he will never be beaten until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane.

Macduff is sure that Macbeth killed King Duncan and joins Malcolm in England. There, he raises an army of 10,000 Englishmen so he can kill Macbeth and claim the throne for himself.

In anger that Macduff has left Scotland, Macbeth orders his henchmen to murder Macduffs wife and children. This order causes disgust and outrage in his followers, who then begin to desert him.

Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth has gone insane, and talks in her sleep about washing blood from her hands.

Macbeth becomes worried when a messenger arrives to tell him the wood is on its way to Dunsinane.

Macbeth recklessly attacks and kills many men when the army arrive, because he thinks no one can kill him.

However, Macduff tells Macbeth that his mother gave birth to him by a caesarean, so technically he was not born of woman. They then begin to fight.

Macduff kills Macbeth, and puts his head on display for everyone to see.
