Personality Patterns of Deori Secondary School Students in Assam

The object of this paper is to investigate the Personality Patterns of Deori Secondary School Students in Assam. Personality is the sum total of all physical, mental and emotional attitudes, value interests and motivational factors. Personality is the core potential that determines ones success in life and career. The individual is the owner of his career planning and it is most important decision of ones life. The term personality patterns means a design. Personality patterns is a mode of behaviour of a person, it is made up of characteristics pattern of person and this personality of the individual and remain unique within family and environment consistent through life. Deori is a plain tribe of Assam. The Indian constitution has regarded the Deori as a Schedule Tribe of Assam. This study covers only the lower secondary stage students, IXth and Xth class and the age is usually 14+. These two years are crucial from the point of view of development of personality.

Introduction: The word Personality has been derived from the Latin word Persona. At first this word was used for the mask worn by the actors to change their appearance but later on it began to be used for the actions themselves. Since then the personality has been used to depict outward appearance or external behaviour etc. As a theoretical construct personality is related to the many dimensions of a human beings behavious in every development period as well as in his adult life. Watson J.B. (1930) from the psychological point defines personality Personality is the sum of activities that can be discovered by actual observations over a long enough period of time to give reliable information. Eysneck H.T. (1971) defines personality which gives a complete picture of the human behaviour patterns by including cognitive, affective and somatic aspects personality is the more and less stable and enduring organization of a persons character, temperament, intellect, and physique, which determine his unique adjustment to the environment. Allport G.W. (1961 defin personality - personality is a dynamic organization within the individual of those psych-physical systems that determine his unique adjustment to his environment. In philosophy, the conception of personality is the essential trait of a person. So the personality is used in various senses. Objective of the study: The objective of the study is to analysis the personality patterns of Deori Secondary Students of Assam. Keeping in view the specific objectives of the study are: 1. To analysis the Secondary School Stage. 2. To analysis the Secondary School stage and Person-

ality development. 3. To analysis personality patterns of Deori. Methodology: Descriptive survey method is used for this study. The present study has been designed with its conceptual structure, its objectives consisting of the grouping for the collection, measurement and analysis of data. Analysis : In the secondary stage moral development during the most crucial stage in an individuals development, is peculiarly susceptible to the effects of his mental and social development. Secondary stage reflects on adolescence periods. Elizabeth Hurlock(1947) in her book on personality development gives importance on development of pleasing personality, which is highly rewarded and admired. Therefore secondary education should teach the students about proper sense of values in order to develop their personality in a proper way. Deoris personality pattern and their social life despite tremendous challenges and have been able to maintain the own traditions, religious beliefs and practice, various socio-political trails and tribulations through the centuries. yet allopathic medicine has penetrated into their villages. They are generally endomorphic body type (Sheldon). Their body type has a fat, soft and round body. There are viscrtotonic nature showing a cheerful disposition and the desire for the visceral comfort of relaxation eating and sociability. Findings: It was found that there is no any significant difference between boys and grils of Deori secondary level students in terms of personality pattern. It was observed that no xth students girls respondents were found in case of personality pattern Tem-

perament and Anxiety. * The criteria of Personality pattern self concept highest and anxiety was the lowest in case of both boys and girls respondents. * Sex does not play any significant role in determining personality patterns. Conclusion: The findings of the present study help us know the personality patterns of Deori Secondary level Students. it is evidential from the analysis that they have the natural interest for self-concept. They are more happy

with their Deori self knowledge and awareness of Deori self help them believe in their old ways and cultural patterns. They are still maintaining most of their traditional socio-cultural traits intact. Suggestions : 1. Similar study as the present investigation can be conducted on Primary School students as well as +2 stage Students. 2. Similar studies like the present one could be conducted in other district with other community. 3. More objective assessment of personality can be made by using projective techniques.
