Special Issue on New Optimization Techniques for Electrical Power Systems Problems

Power system optimization problems are very dicult to solve because power systems are very large, complex, geographically widely distributed, and inuenced by many unexpected events. It is, therefore, necessary to employ most ecient optimization methods to take full advantage in simplifying the formulation and implementation of the problem. The main focus of this special issue will be on the existing and new optimization algorithms and their applications in solving power system problems like power system planning, reactive power/voltage control, economic dispatch, generator maintenance scheduling, unit commitment, power system stabilizers, power system restoration, alarm processing and fault diagnosis, optimal power ow, and power system reconguration. Applications to renewable energy and smart grids are also under the scope of this issue. This special issue will present an overview of important mathematical optimization, bio-inspired intelligence, and articial intelligence (AI) techniques used in power optimization problems. This issue will also become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the eld, with a special emphasis given to the technical and observational results obtained within the last ten years.
