NC Digital Library Gets New Look


North Carolina Digital Library has a new look! The website has been redesigned to make it easier to use and offer patrons even more options. If youre not already familiar with it, NC Digital Library provides all RPL patrons with access to ebooks (electronic books) for use on a computer, laptop, Kindle, Nook or other eReader, and audiobooks for use on many portable audio devices (mp3 players) . You can access NC Digital Library from RPLs home page, www.rowanpubliclibrary.org. From there, click on eBooks from NC Digital Library to be taken to their home page. Once there, you can browse the collection or search by title, author, or subject. You will need a current Rowan Public Library card and four digit pin number to access any titles from NC

news, etc.

Digital Library. Once logged in, you can put items on hold or check out items by adding them to your ebookbag. Recent changes even let you choose your lending period, either 7 or 14 days for most items. Users are also required to download the free OverDrive Media software to the computer, ereader, or mobile device theyre using. Help is always available from the NC Digital Library web page, or contact the RPL location nearest you for assistance.

Friends Plan Trip West for 2013

Join the Friends of RPL April 12-20, 2013 for the Collette Vacations trip: Trains and Canyons of the Southwest. Highlights include journeying to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon via the Grand Canyon Railway; a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad (with views of crimson cliffs and ancient ruins accessible only by rail); the Petrified Forest National Park; and the cities of Albuquerque, Phoenix, Santa Fe (photo, left) , Scottsdale, and Sedona (photo, right) . Summer Reading Kicks Off in June


Our Dream Big - Read! arts and crafts Kick-off events will be held on Thursday, June 14th at the South Rowan Regional Library in China Grove from 3:30 pm 5:00 pm, at the East Branch in Rockwell on Friday, June 15th from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm and at Headquarters in Salisbury on Saturday, June 16th from 10:00 am 12:00 pm. Weekly programs then run from June 18 through August 2. RPL staff will be entertaining the youngest participants, while professional performers dream big with the school-aged children.

Summer Programs for Teens


Teens can have fun this summer participating in the Own the Night Summer Reading Program where they will explore the night through fun programs and reading. All programs starting June 19th and running through July 26th will be held from 3:30 pm 5:00 pm. Programs will take place on Tuesdays at Headquarters in Salisbury, Wednesdays at the East Branch in Rockwell, and Thursdays at the South Rowan Regional Library in China Grove. Book Bites Book Club Selections


Book Bites Book Club is open to the public and anyone is free to join at any time. The group meets the last Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm at the South Rowan Regional Library in China Grove. New iMac Lab for Teens Debuts

Alex Reed, 16, tries out one of the new iMac computers now available for teens at all RPL locations. The iMac computers were purchased thanks to a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant awarded to RPL through the State Library of North Carolina . The iMac Lab also includes a scanner and plenty of productivity software for teens to create and explore. For more information contact your nearest RPL location.
