The

Life and Ministry of Blane & Hannah

Issue 5 | June 2012

By the Dme you are reading this, my Campus-Missionary-in-Training (CMIT) internship program will be completed. I have learned so much from Mike and Jen Godzwa as well as the enDre DC Metro Chi Alpha team this past year. From the discipleship training to learning what it looks like to do campus ministry in the naDons capital at an elite private school to sharpening my communicaDons skills, this has been a life-changing season of learning and growth. Thank you. It is your faithfulness in both prayers and nancial contribuDons that have allowed me to have this experience and to be involved in the ministry at American University. I feel more prepared and equipped than ever to conDnue to pursue Gods call of ministry on my life. That leaves the big quesDon, Whats next?. Were glad you asked! The more that we have talked and prayed about what to do next, we realized how much we have fallen in love with the students, sta, culture and campus of American University. We think that God is doing something really special and we want to be a part of it. As we prayed for direcDon, we felt that this is where He is leading us and we couldnt be more excited! Here at American University there are students from all 50 states and 150 countries - all within walking distance from our apartment! As I prepare to transiDon from an intern to a sta member, I hope that you will conDnue to be on our support team as we reach the world together! Although my role on campus may change, we will sDll be campus missionaries, serving because someone like you decided to make an investment in Americas future leaders. I would love to connect with you over the summer whether it be in person, via Skype or over the phone to share more and to answer any quesDons. Feel free to email me (blaneyoung@gmail.com) or call me at (202) 300-2840 anyDme!

Several of the students in Chi Alpha told me that they wanted to take over my end of the school year newsle9er but li9le did I know what that meant un<l they sent me the following. Their words are kind and truly humbling. I am so grateful that we get to serve this university and this community of faith.

This year has been trying for me, but as I look back, the unrelenDng support that Blane and Hannah have given me made all the dierence. They spurred me to dig deeper into my walk with Christ and not to be afraid to pursue my passions. Through their love for others, their intenDonality and their encouragement, I have grown to become a more condent leader in our community. I cannot stress enough how strategic God's placement of Blane and Hannah has been. They were the exact push our community needed to grow this year, and next year they will be here to help us conDnue to grow into our new skin. I am so blessed to be able to call them friends and I want to extend my graDtude to everyone who has given them the support they needed to be here working in our lives.

Coming back from studying in Kenya in the fall was really hard. I didnt know how to link my experiences abroad with my life here. I met Hannah one night during the rst weeks of being back. UnDl then, I hadnt talked about Kenya or my experiences or my fears of forgecng it all. But that night, I told Hannah all about it. In exchanging stories, I gave her a lot of my heart and received a lot of hers, and I had only just met her. In that moment, I felt safe safe to give a huge piece of my heart to a girl I didnt even know. I think thats the best way to describe what she has meant to me this enDre semester. Shes a safe place, and her love is overwhelming. The party wouldnt be complete without her. At least I know my life wouldnt.

Blane. Hes a conuence of so many things: discipleship, community, and friendship. I really believe that it would be impossible to overstate his impact on Chi Alpha at American University this year. One of the ways hes impacted XA as a whole, and that Ive been lucky enough to be a part of, is through his leadership of the newly created CreaDve CommunicaDons Cohort. The vision and teaching and creaDvity he exudes for the media arts have awoken similar passions in me, and I am extremely grateful that hes been put on this campus. The mens community at Chi Alpha has also been bejered because of Blanes presence. He draws people in, and can show what true friendship and community looks like, in addiDon to giving a model of service to us. His strengths are denitely realized in the environment of a college campus.
