It was made by ethnic leaders and politicians opposed to the Nov. 7 election in Kale, Sagaing Division The Mon cease-fire group, the New Mon State Party (NMSP), released a statement requesting people in Burma including ethnic Mon to boycott the upcoming elections. The Mon Affairs Unionan umbrella group of Mon organizations both inside and outside Burma, including the New Mon State Partyreleased a statement following a three day central committee meeting on the Thai Burma border. It called for a boycott, claiming that the election will not be free and fair, and saying that it will not bring about a political voice for the people of Mon State after the election. The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) released a statement following its party congress calling for Burma's Nov. 7 general election to be conducted in a free and fair manner. The KIO leaders also said that they will not oppose the election, but will keep a close watch on whether the election is free and fair. A KIO official said "for the sake of KSPPs approval by the Election Commission, we cannot give up our armed struggle for liberation of the Kachin people in military-ruled Burma, Sources said that the Karenni Nationalities People Liberation Front (KNPLF) has decided to contest in the forthcoming general elections but has not been allowed to register yet by the election commission. The faction would be led by Vice-Chairman Tun Kyaw and will represent Karenni people The Rangoon-based group Burma Ethnic Politics Watch Network (BEPWN) strongly condemned seven ethnic leaders and their political movement for "helping the Burmese regime stay in power and delay democratic reform in Burma". They are Harn Yawnghwe (Shan), the executive director of the Brussels-based Euro-Burma Office; Dr. Lian H. Sakhong (Chin) of the Ethnic Nationalities Council; Dr. Saw Simon Tha, a Karen physician-turn-politician; Sai Aik Pao, former secretary of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD); San Tha Aung of the Khami National Solidarity Organization; Dr. Saboi Jum, a peace broker between the Burmese regime and Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), and Wa politician Philip Sem, who will contest in the general election. A Mon alliance representing Burma's Mon community has decided not to take part in the planned general election at a meeting of a 15-member committee in the Mon State capital, Moulmein. Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) the Shan National league for Democracy (SNLD), Mon National Democracy Front, Zomi National Congress and released a statement that they will not establish a political party and will not contest the election if the military government does not ammend the 2008 constitution. The Kachin State Progressive Party Chairman Tu Ja invited dozens of women and students in Myitkyina to a briefing on how to campaign for the party. The Shan State Army South leader, Col. Yawd Serk, said on Shan National Day that if the military government allows free political movement in the country and promises to transfer power to the winning party, he will form a political party and contest in the 2010 election The Overseas Mon Coordinating Committee issued a statement condemning the Burmese military regime for disrobing and torturing the Mon monk. has called for the release of a Mon Buddhist monk from a Burmese military interrogation centre in Yangon. The Kachin State Progressive Party led by former leaders of Kachin ceasefire groups' have begun their pre-election campaigns in major townships of the Kachin State. The KSPP party campaigns are now underway in Myitkyina, Waing-Maw, Puta-O, Naungmong,Ma-chambaw, Kaung-lanphu, Ingyan-yang, Pharkant, Ta-naing, Moe-nyin, Moegaung, Bahmo, Moe-mauk, Shwe-gu townships. The Chin National Council in exile said it supports the stand taken by the National League for Democracy on the juntas elections and its roadmap as a whole; but it will urge voters to selectively vote for pro-democracy candidates, should the regime continue with the polls despite widespread opposition. Representatives at the second Chin National Assembly have pointed out that 2010 general elections cannot usher in welfare and equal rights for national ethnic groups in the country.

In a statement issued to celebrate its 21st Anniversary, the Zomi National Congress stated that it will participate in the upcoming 2010 Elections, only if amendments are made to the 2008 Constitution. National Democratic Front released a statement saying they rejected the regimes 2010 election because it will implement the 2008 Constitution, which was adopted by force and fraudulent means. Ethnic Nationalities Council sent a letter to US Senator Jim Webb urging the US not to condemn the 2010 election before it is held, but to continue calling for an inclusive, free and fair election process. However several ethnic groups have said they disagree with the content of the open letter exiled including National Democratic Front (NDF), and the United Nationalities Alliance (UNA) and the Committee Representing Peoples Parliament (CRPP) New Mon State Party Chairman Nai Htaw Mon, as well as NMSP Central Executive Committee members, Nai Hong Sar and Nai Htar Wara, have been traversing Mon State and NMSP territory since organizing Mon communities in Burma in preparation for the 2010 elections. However they are still unwilling to participate in elections until elements of the constitution are changed. Six KIO high-ranking officials including Dr. Mana Tu Ja, vice-president (2) of the KIO, announced their resignation from the KIO to form the Kachin State Progressive Party that will contest in the 2010 elections Former New Mon State Party Central Committee members Nai Tin Aung, Nai Soe Myint and former Mon National Democratic Party members came together in Moulmein and decided to form a political party. The Kachin National Organization in exile on its 10th anniversary vowed to boycott the military junta's 2010 general elections. The Mon National Democratic Front (MNDF-LA) said it would not support the 2010 elections during the 20th anniversary of its founding held on the Thai Burma border.
