PMP stands for Project Management Professional, a certification by PMI( Project Management Institute ) .PMI is the worlds leading association for the Project Management profession. It provides globally recognised examination-based professional credentials that are commonly accepted as evidence of a proven level of education, knowledge and experience in Project Management. To be eligible for a PMP credential, one must first meet specific educational and Project Management experience requirements and agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct. The final step to becoming a PMP is passing a rigorous multiple-choice examination designed to objectively assess and measure ones ability to apply Project Management knowledge in the following six domains: Initiation, Planning, Execution, Control, Close-Out and Professional and Social Responsibility.
* Project Management experience must be accrued within 8 years of the date of application. ** Leading and directing project tasks as identified in the PMP examination specification. Within the total hours of Project Management experience, experience in all five-process groups is required. However, on a single project, you do not need to have experience in all five-process groups.
All eligible applications are subject to a random audit. Candidates whose applications have been selected for an audit will be notified after the eligibility notification letter is issued and payment of the exam fee is remitted. Candidates will be asked to submit supporting documentation for the audit.

Eligibility notification
The eligibility notification will be sent electronically and either confirms or denies that a candidate is eligible to take the exam. The eligibility period is one year: one has to sit for the exam before the expiration of this period.
