The period between October and February is the most pleasant time to visit Mumbai, when the city enjoys a balmy season of blue skies and a cool breeze. The Island City receives an annual rainfall of 2,200 metres. The months of October and November bring a respite from the heavy rains. However, winters appear at their apex in December and January. The weather remains pleasant during these months, where the temperature goes down to the minimum of 15C. February too, offers an enjoyable climate. In fact, the months from October to February provide the best time to visit Mumbai. From March, the temperature gradually rises and the humidity reaches saturation point. It is very hot just before the monsoon rains break in mid-June.Mumbai, by and large, observes humidity throughout the year. Since it rests in the tropical zone, moreover close to sea, it enjoys more or less same weather. Its climate can be broadly divided into three seasons, namely winters (November-February),summers (March-May) and monsoons (June-September). The months between March and October are characterized by high humidity, while dryness persists from November to February. The rains last until September. During June, July, August and September, Mumbai experiences monsoon spells and heavyshowers, although you can still expect plenty of sunny spells at this time of the year. Generally the monsoon arrives slowly, gradually affecting the climate. At first, the arid and dusty weather simply becomes more humid, still remaining fairly hot. During Mumbais humid season, it tends to rain almost every day, but by no means solidly.They come as a welcome relief to Bombayites but when the drainage system fails everyone encounters difficulties getting around town. After the initial few days of flooded roads, however, Bombayites take the downpours and regular drenching in their stride. In September, the humidity and temperature begin to fall. Luckily Mumbai does not suffer from the incessant power cuts that plague other parts of India, so offices and hotels remain air-conditioned and bearable through the hot months. The city, being in the tropical zone and near the Arabian Sea, does not experience distinct seasons, but the climate can broadly be classified into two main seasons ? the humid season and the dry season. The humid season, between March to October, is characterized by high humidity and temperatures of over 30C (86F). The monsoon rains lash the city during June to September and supply most of the citys annual rainfall of 2,200 mm (85 in). The maximum annual rainfall ever recorded was 3,452 mm (135.89 in) in 1954[5]. During summers, the temperature rises up to 35C and the climatic conditions flit around mugginess. Monsoons afflict the residents of Bombay with heavy showers. The temperature comes down to some extent, but extreme clamminess makes theconditions worse. Water-logging is a major problem in the city during this season. However, good news is that the air-conditioners really work well around this time. The highest rainfall recorded in a single day was 944 mm (37.16 inches) on 2005-07-26. The dry season, between November and February, is characterized by moderate levels of humidity and warm to cool weather. Cold northerly winds are responsible for a high wind chill factor during January and February. The annual temperatures range from a high of 38C (100F) to a low of 11C (52F). The record high is 43C (108F) and record low is 7.4C (45F) on 1962-01-22. Mumbai weather can be categorized into four seasons of summer, winter, monsoon and the withdrawal season.The Mumbai weather between March to October is humid whereas that between October to February is dry. During the humid weather, the temperature can cross 30°C. The entry of cold northern winds during the winter gives a very chilling effect. December

to February is the winter season, March to May is summer, June to September experiences Monsoon climate while October to December is the withdrwal season. Santacruz Airport and the Colaba Navy Nagar are the two weather-monitoring points of Mumbai. Being in the coastal region, the city of Mumbai experiences a humid weather throughout the year. The month of January has the maximum cold in Mumbai weather where the days have a temperature of 27°C and nights have 15°C. The weather in Mumbai becomes foggy. From March onwards, the temperature reaches 30 to 33 °C during daytime and 19°C during night. By April the temperature becomes as high as 35 °C. The weather becomes very humid in the month of May and people usually go for vacation during this time to hills or seasides in order to avoid the unbearable hot weather. Sited next to the Arabian Sea and within the tropical zone, the climate of Mumbai falls into two distinctive seasons, the dry season and also the humid season. Sometimes it comes early than expected time and sometimes it comes late. The average rainfall received by the city during this time is somewhere around 2,200 mm. The humidity levels are at their peak during this time and it is not an ideal time to visit the city. The city is relived by the scorching heat and there is coolness all around. The highest rainfall ever recorded in Mumbai was more than 2000 mm in month of July 2006. The average rainfall which Mumbai receives every year is around 600-800 mm. . The Mumbai Weather can be perfectly described as Maritime sea weather. The weather of Mumbai is greatly influenced by its proximity to the Arabian Sea. This accounts for the little seasonal fluctuation of the temperature of Mumbai due to the moderating effect of the Arabian Sea. In general the month of May is the warmest month of the year when the mean average temperature of the city remains 32 degree Celsius, even though the temperature experiences a sudden rise to 40 degrees occasionally. The coldest month in Mumba is January and the mean average temperature of the month is recorded as 24 degree Celsius. The minimum Recorded in Mumbai so far is 18 degrees. Generally the presence of humidity is very high in the summer months when the temperature is at its peak. The Seasons of Mumbai: Mumbai weather experiences very little seasonal variety due to the moderating effect of the Arabian Sea. There are three main seasons that prevails in the Mumbai weather . These are the monsoon, summer and the winter. The monsoon season usually occurs in between the months of June and September. The monsoon season is responsible for the deposition of more than Mumbai's total annual rainfall that is around 1800mm. It is both interesting and mysterious to note that the first

shower of rain in Mumbai occurs from the 7 th of June. However of late wide levels of fluctuations are noticed about the onset of the monsoons. The temperature during those times remains calm around 20 degrees and the weather remains highly humid. The presence of moisture in the air is also noticeable during the monsoons in Mumbai since it remains at its maximum. Heavy westerly winds are the unique traits in the monsoons in Mumbai. The Arabian Sea becomes rough and turbulent with high rising waves and the harbor becomes too choppy for the sailing boats. The summers in Mumbai typically symbolizes Indian summers. It follows immediately after the monsoons and the weather becomes highly unbearable with high temperatures and humidity. The summer seasons continues till the end of October. After the summers Mumbai experiences the most pleasant weather from the month of November to February. During this period the temperature and the humidity falls together abruptly and reaches their lowest points in the month of January. Mumbai becomes calm with sea turning to a shade of blue in these months.
