Will the popularity of printed newspaper decline in the future?

According to Elliot (2009) the number of people read newspaper in the world which stood at 1.9billion .There was changed significantly in the newspaper industry(Graham and Smart 2010). Printed newspaper appeared long time ago but at the moment their position are affected by many competitors in the information millennium. This essay will argue the reason why physical newspaper able to decline in the future. One of the most common argument against of the decline of physical newspaper in the future is that printed newspaper still prosper where social network is not popular. According to Barthelemy et al(2011), there are 30 percent printed newspaper in Africa and 13 percent in Asia . Moreover, printed newspaper is the old way to spread

information far to far but they have the success in some poor countries because it is complex and suitable for anyone from anywhere. Netherless, the trend uses online newspaper which increased significantly in developed countries. First of all, people read online newspaper increasing with the popular of social media in recent years. Micth (2009) states that the attraction of newspaper websites is 68.3 million readers each month and it dominated about 41.4 percent of all Internet users. Furthermore, the printed newspaper appeared and have prosperity in Western countries since many years ago but now the readers tend to high estimate newspaper websites rather than physical newspaper. For example, according to Hoffman, L (2006) the seeking online newspaper grew from 23 percent in 2000 to 29 percent in 2004. Thus, the position of printed newspaper might decrease dramatically when people more likely to use online newspaper. Another argument for the decline of newspaper in the future is that the convenient and the attraction of online newspaper. Firstly, people can see easily with the speed of online newspaper. It may be true that information can be transmitted

anywhere and anytime in the world through the development of Internet. For instance, news seekers can update quickly information about politician, disaster and society from one country to other country when they use online newspaper. Besides, the development of technology in modern society, it seems to be easier anyplace while people just click to news websites to get information with their mobile or laptop. Furthermore, Boczkowski et al (2002(cited in Waal et al 2005) claims that people have more choice for what areas of news they care. There are many kind of news which showed in online newspaper as entertainment area, stories of business and so on. This might be one of main reason why the trend of using newspaper website is growing. In additional, newspaper pages on Internet give more attractive then printed newspaper by the animation of the image, audio, video (Mitch 2009). For example, people who are caring about any actress star result in they will want to see more about her simple life after screen. Hence, people tend to use online newspaper instead of physical newspaper in the future.

Beside the argument for the users convenient and giving more attractive of using online newspaper, there is also the readers prefer to use online newspaper than printed newspaper because of their financial areas benefits. According to Brook(2006) readers will not pay any more money to read online newspaper because almost all American newspaper website are free. This lead to them save significantly amount of money. Also, online newspaper can give more advantages for advertisement company. Advertising revenue earned from online advertisement in newspaper websites which compared between 17 billion dollar when it is just 4 billion dollar of printed newspaper (Brook 2010). Nowadays, there are huge amount of people who use Internet daily result in many producers will change the way to transmit their information by online newspaper to get more profit in business. Consequently, the number of people use printed newspaper would be decline dramatically in the future by the new trend of online newspaper. In conclusion, it is clear that the reduction of printed newspaper in the next years which would be replaced by Internet position. The changes of people who prefer to read online newspaper, also its convenient and attraction for readers. Additionally, there is benefit for the financial of individual and corporation. Thence, producer of

printed should make a method to attract more readers because of the domination of online newspaper.
