"But then they did not regard the homes of Afghan villagers as homes that gave the US and NATO a welcome." "And in the name in the war on terror, which everybody knew was to be fought elsewhere; too many innocent Afghans lost their lives. Too many were wounded, too many homes were violated," Mr. Karzai said. But he also thanked US and NATO for better education, healthcare, economic growth and stability in Afghanistan, while he has criticized them for not bringing security. He has emphasized that his criticism was not about the US govt but about the strategy used in Afghanistan. PAN-AOR
Protests Grow in Tahrir after Mubarak Verdict: Al Jazeera Thousands descended on Tahrir Square to protest Saturday night after a Cairo court sentenced Mubarak to life in prison, but acquitted a number of former regime officials. The verdict was initially met with euphoria. Egyptians celebrating Mubarak was convicted of complicity in murder of more than 800. But, the joy was short-lived. Mubaraks sons were acquitted of corruption charges, and several senior security officials were found not guilty of murder. Some wanted Mubarak to face the death penalty; others appreciated the verdict, but expect it will be overturned on appeal. So they flocked to Tahrir, not just with the verdict, but with Egypts post-revolution military leadership. More than 5,000 were in Tahrir before midnight, some planning to spend the night. Many vowed not to leave until demands were met.

US Publishes Satellite Images of Syria: Khaleej Times A US govt website published what it said was evidence of mass graves and attacks on civilian areas by Syrian forces. The website published a series of photos, said to be taken earlier this week by a commercial satellite, showing what it said were mass graves dug following a massacre near Houla. They also showed apparent artillery impact craters near civilian areas of Atarib. Included are pictures which apparently show artillery deployed as of May 31, near three Syrian towns and attack helicopters allegedly deployed near the towns of Shayrat and Homs. UN peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous said that the people who died from artillery and tank fire were clearly victims of government shelling while others were most likely killed by militia loyal to President Assad.
