Introduction: The Parallel Post, the first E-magazine of J&K started an initiative of promoting J&K on a global map in the field of arts, by organizing the Vrit first National students film festival in collaboration with Islamic University of science and technology in Kashmir last year. Following its successful completion, we intend to move forward and take the festival to the next level. Aiming to bring

amateur and professional filmmakers on a common platform, we are pleased to inform you about the 2nd Vrit International Film Festival Kashmir 2012. The festival will draw films all across the globe, but films from J&K will be the highlight. This is to keep up with the spirit of providing film-makers from J&K a space to showcase their work, bring filmmakers of repute on a common platform and to promote the name of Jammu and Kashmir on global map in the field of arts. The Film Festival will be promoted and publicized in national and local newspapers, websites, social networking sites and pamphlets. We intend to invite filmmakers, members of civil society as well as common people to witness the event. Also, students from various institutions of the valley will be involved in various stages of the festival. We consider it as our responsibility to make it clear that the event is grounded on non-profit basis .i.e. the organizers are not entitled to any monetary benefits whatsoever. We hope the initiative gains further boost with your support. Hence, we seek SponsorshipsContributions from prestigious organizations in order to fuel the spirit of idea behind the Film Festival in order to accomplish this event successfully.

Relevance of the project The festival is a first of its kind endeavor that happened in the Kashmir valley last year. The aim was to encourage the film makers particularly those pursuing their studies in the field to take films and documentaries as an effective way of expression. However, it was not possible to address the issues to the youth directly in the current Kashmiri socio political scenario. Thus the

endeavor was not confined to human rights and conflicts films and documentaries but a mix of various other issues that marred the society Organization & Team The parallel Post Media Team 1: Gowhar Farooq: Copy sub-editor, Hindustan Times, Bhopal. mgowhar@gmail.com/+91-9755539876. 2: Zubair Bhat: Freelance Journalist bhat.zubair@ymail.com/+91 8882004476 3. Aamir Bashir: Copy editor, Hindustan times, Chandigarh aamirbashir88@gmail.com/ +91 9041860642 Project objectives The foremost object of the festival is to represent and promote Kashmir in the field of global arts. To promote the freedom of speech and expression viz a viz films, and documentaries To bring the amateur and professional film makers to a common platform so that our people interested in film making and other forms of Art Target groups There is no specific target group for the festival. However, we intend to reach to the majority of the youth living in Kashmir who are interested in film making and those who

intend to represent and express their feelings through non vicious means. Expected results This festival is basically an attempt to create a parallel forum where dissent can be canvassed and expressed. We expect that this event would create more awareness among the youth by exposing them to international documentary making trends. Production The event will be a two day affair. Each day will be divided into three sessions. During each session there will be provision for Sculpting, musical performance, painting and installations simultaneously or during the intervals. Each session will be followed by a Q&A session, Discussion session and one on one interaction with film/documentary maker. The venue has a capacity to hold over 1000 people. However, we are expecting a minimum of 600 people on each day. The management of the venue, that we have chosen, provides the technical assistance required during the event, costs of which are incorporated initially while the venue is booked. This involves both with logistics and providing the equipments needed to run the film festival. However, we will have a two designated teams that will independently look both into the logistics and their proper implementation. The event will be a non-profit affair. So, no tickets will be priced. It will be a free entry show. The venue is however from a little distance from the city centre. Thus, transportation facilities will be provided both for the invitees and the commoners, who wish to join the festival. The event will be having a proper permission from the local authorities as was done the last time. Publicity The promotion and the publicity of the event will start

event a month before the actual event. This will involve advertisements in Print radio and through pamphlets and hand-outs. Last time we had we entered into an agreement with an advertising agency who promoted the event. We are already in talks with some other good advertising agency that are more than willing to promote the event in every way possible. The media relations will be handled by a team, who will be well familiar with the work. The catalogues and brochures of the film festival will be produced and disseminated a month prior.
