ArchiCAD can not be installed or uninstalled because of Java 7 Issue: ArchiCAD installer does not start when Java

7 is installed onto the compu ter. It is possible that Java 7 was installed automatically during a software up date of Windows. Solution: Temporarily uninstall v7 version of Java: remove it via Control Panel/ Programs and Features. Then ArchiCAD installer should be able to run and it will also install the Java version it requires. After ArchiCAD is installed you can reinstall the latest Java version. Please find which Java versions are supported by Graphisoft installers here: Jav a versions. ArchiCAD hangs on first start after install (Mac and PC) Issue: After launching the program ArchiCAD hangs with a spinning ball after it finishes opening the program Solution: Unplug the Hardware Protection key and start ArchiCAD 15 in Demo mode. Quit ArchiCAD, re-plug the hardware protection key, and start ArchiCAD. The possible cause of this problem is that ArchiCAD was installed while the hard ware protection key was plugged. During installing, it is recommended to remove the protection key. ArchiCAD hangs or crashes on first start after install with a blank splash scree n (PC) Issue: A white screen rectangle appears where the splash screen would normally b e, and just stays there. If you click into the white rectangle, the bug reporter comes up Solution: This seems to be caused by a corrupt QuickTime install. Remove QuickTi me, then re-install it from the ArchiCAD install DVD. Sometimes also it is neces sary to run QuickTime Player after the installation. "GSRoot.Dll not found" error message on first start after install (PC only) Issue: After launching the program ArchiCAD displays "GSRoot.Dll not found" erro r Solution: This is caused by a Virus Scanner that has quarantined this file. Issue: During the install process, after specifying folder for installation, you recieve an error message saying: "The specified directory is an ArchiCAD direct ory. Please select a different directory, which is not an ArchiCAD directory." Solution: Check through all the folders along the path of the specified installa tion folder and look for existing ArchiCAD.exe or ArchiCAD.app files along the p ath. You are either trying to install ArchiCAD in another ArchiCAD's folder, or there is another copy of ArchiCAD in one of the folders specified in the path. E .g. If you have an ArchiCAD.app file directly in the "Applications" folder, you will not be able to install ArchiCAD into the "Applications/Graphisoft/ArchiCAD 15" folder. The installer stops responding at the intro or the installer window does not app ear Solution: Uninstall all versions of Java, reboot and run the installer again. Ja va will be reinstalled automatically by the ArchiCAD installation. In case of ho tfix installation: install the version from the installation DVD. More about Jav a compatibility: Install "Quicktime is outdated or missing" error message On PC: Solution 1: Uninstall QuickTime(s) from your system, and restart your computer. Browse the ArchiCAD 15 installation DVD for the "QuickTime" folder and run the i nstaller. If that does not work, then: Solution 2: Run the vcredist installers, also from the "SUPPORT" folder. The packages can be also downloaded from Microsoft: Download vcredist_x86.exe Do wnload vcredist_x64.exe On Mac: Solution: In case this comes on a Mac which was restored from a disk image: Unin stall ArchiCAD and install it again. Library parts are missing from Teamwork projects after installing BIM Server 15 module See: Bugs/Teamwork/LibrariesNotFoundAfterArchicad15Upgrade ArchiCAD 15 freezes at the splash screen Parts of ArchiCAD uses TCP communication on the local machine. Corruption of the hosts file can cause freeze when starting ArchiCAD. In this file hostnames can be mapped to IP addresses. To locate whether this is the case: On Mac: open Finder Go, Go to Folder /etc etc.png select the file named hosts and open it e.g. with TextEdit

The content of it should like this by default: ## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost In case the line 127.0.0.1 localhost is missing ArchiCAD won't start. You can fi x this, by replacing the file with this one. (contains the OS default settings) On Windows: Open Windows Explorer Browse %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ (in most of the cases %SystemRoot% is C:\Windows folder) open the file named hosts The content of it should look like something like this by default (there are no lines without #): # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one space. Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. For example: 102.54.94.97 38.25.63.10 rhino.acme.com x.acme.com # source server # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost Place # character before each line to exclude its affect. Restart the computer a nd then check how ArchiCAD starts.
