Clinical Performance 1. Clinical instruction is provided within the program in conjunction with the current curriculum in theory. This instruction is provided on campus in the dental facilities. Students are held responsible for knowing and adhering to the rules and regulations of the College, the Dental Assisting Program and all Clinical Facilities. Attendance is required for all activities related to a clinic course. The clinical setting provides the environment to formulate good work habits related to punctuality, demeanor and overall sense of responsibility. Absences must be reported to Seema Jain or Scarlet Kendrick PRIOR (by 8:00am) to the beginning of the shift. An absence will result in a 0 grade for the day. In order to receive a passing grade in this class, you cannot miss more than 3 clinic sessions. (A one-clinic session equals four hours) If you arrive later than 15 minutes your daily grade will start at a 3.0, later than 1/2 hour your daily grade will start at a 2.5. If you are more than 1 hour late, you will be counted as absent. In the event you miss more than 3 clinic sessions, you will need to meet with the program director, Scarlet Kendrick. Reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule missed clinic days during the following quarter. Days missed will delay program completion. 3. A student is judged to be safe if he/she is able to perform critical behaviors and demonstrates evidence to maintain these behaviors for assigned skills and the listed terminal competencies of the quarter. In addition, each student's performance in clinic is assessed on criteria listed on a separate handout. A student, who fails to maintain a minimum of 70% achievement or a Pass grade in all clinical courses each quarter, will be dismissed from the Program. Theory/Laboratory/Clinical Assignments It is the responsibility of the student to complete all assignments and projects within the designated time limits. Failure to do so will result in an "O" grade for assignment or project. Page
