Teacher writes on the board the date December 31 . Teacher elicits from students what kind of things people usually do on that day. Teacher tells the students that he/she has interviewed some people about their New Years resolution and their reasons to make those resolutions. Teacher divides the class in groups of two or three students. Teacher gives two groups of cards (one with some New Years resolutions and the other with the reasons to make those New Years resolutions.) to each group. Teaches ask the students to match each resolution with the reason that the person has to make that resolution. When a group matches all the cards, the students in that group have to stand up. The first group that matches all their cards correctly wins. Teacher tells students that they are going to read a text about New Years resolutions and they have to decide which of the sentences, in exercise 1 on exercises page attached to this lesson plan, best describe the content of the text. Teacher tells the students that they have one minute to read the text and when teacher says the page number and the word GO students will open their books and start reading and then they discuss their answers with their partners. Students report their answers to the class. Teacher asks students to close their books and read the sentences in exercise 2 on exercises page attached to this lesson plan. Teacher tells the students that they have 3 minutes to find in text whether those sentences are true or false. When teacher says the page number and the word GO students have to open their books and start reading and then they discuss their answers with their partners. Students report their answers to the class. Teacher asks students to look at the phrases in exercise 23 page 72 (textbook) and try to find them in the text and try to figure out the meaning of the phrases from the context, then students will complete the sentences in exercise 23 page 72 (textbook). Students discuss their answers with their partners. Students report their answers to the class. Teacher asks the students to choose two phrases from the exercise 23 page 72 (textbook) and write two sentences about themselves using those phrases and then students read their sentences to a partner. Role-play. Students work in pairs. One student is having trouble sticking to a New Years resolution. The other student gives him/her tips to help with the problem then students switch roles.
