Networking Overview

- What is Networking? Networking means connection computers and other electronic devices to share information and resources and to communicate. The basic characteristic for networking is the need for people to share data and to communicate quickly and efficiently. - Types of Network There are two basic types of Network by its structure. * Peer to peer: Computers can act as clients or servers depending on the circumstances of user choice. * Client/server: Servers share the resources by centralized control and client access the resources. - Network Media Many types of network media are several types of metallic cable(twisted-pair and coaxial) and fiber-optic cable as well as several forms of wireless media. - Network Topology Topology is the kind of Networking Physical Infrastructure and describes the physical layout design of the network including hardware components such as cabling, routers, switches, bridges, hubs, servers and hosts. And the technologies such as Ethernet, Wireless 802.11, PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), methods of communication over certain types of physical connections. Logically that represents software elements such as DNS (Domain Name System), Network protocols TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) - Servers

Application Servers
- Support the server side of client/server application - Database server called MySQL can get for Windows Server 2000/2003, Linux, UNIX and NetWare, and so on...

Communication Servers

- Communication servers support a mechanism for users outside a network to access that network's resources (inbound communication) and let users on that network to access resources outside the network (outbound communications). - Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS), the powerful communication server contains in Windows Server 2000/2003.

Domain Controllers/Directory Servers

- Domain Controllers/Directory Servers serve directory services, for users to locate, store, and secure information about a network and its resources. - The server handles logon service and manages the collection of computers, users, and so on in a domain. File and Print Servers - File and print servers provide basic network file storage, retrieval services, and access to networked printers.

Mail Servers
- Mail servers handle e-mail messages for network users. - Acting as a clearinghouse for local exchange of messages - Provide "store-and-forward" services. - Mail server software such as Microsoft Exchange runs on Windows Server 2000/2003, Novell, Lotus Notes, and so on...

Web Servers
- Companies use Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to distribute information on the World Wide Web (WWW), the most well-known aspect of the Internet. - Web Server called Internet Information Services (IIS) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) includes in Windows server 2000/2003.

VPN Servers
- VPN (Virtual Private Network) provide users to connect securely via Internet from user's computer to remote side. - Logical private network but physically connected through the Internet.

- Using Tunneling Method over Internet.

DHCP Servers
- Clients can automatically obtain IP Address and related configurations from DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) - Need few time to configure the computers IP Addresses - Avoid IP Conflict Error

Task 1 Recently, the management has set aside a budget to equip its senior sales force with a mixture of wireless enabled portable Notebook PCs, printers and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to communicate electronically with head office. Within the office the Management also wants to convert their existing wired network to a Wi-Fi network. The aim of the assignment is to produce feasibility reports outlining the case for the provision of a remote working system within the company and to develop a comprehensive project plan for Wi-Fi network implementation in the office. I inform you that I have researched about implementing the remote working system for the company according to the order of company's Management Team. In my report, I will present you the benefits of implementing the remote working system by dividing three steps as follow: As above, I report about implementing the remote working system for the company in three categories. In part 1, I designed the network diagram for the company and remote users using VPN service. I listed the potential requirements for the company's network structure. And in step 2, I outlined the advantages and disadvantages of remote working system for the company. At the final step, I listed the approximate costs of hardware and software equipments use for the company's network
