Chapter 4 INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS The researchers conducted a survey on the effectiveness of computers as educational tools inside the

classrooms. They randomly chose 24 students from the whole student body of St. Theresas College as respondents, 6 students belonging to each year level. After letting these students answer the survey questionnaire with all honesty, the researchers tallied the results gathered. As seen below are pie graphs representing a certain question and the answers of the said respondents.

Are computers effective enough as eduational tools inside the classroom?

Yes 0% No

100%

As shown above, 100% of the respondents answered yes. This only means that all of them think that computers are truly effective educational tools inside the classroom.

Do computers inside classrooms help improve our educational system?

Strongly Agree 0% Agree

100%

Based on the results from the survey, 100% of the students strongly agree. This implies that all of the respondents think that truly, computers inside classrooms help improve our educational system.

Do you think laptops for each student will become more effective than computers?
Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree

29%

71%

As seen on the graph, 71% of the students strongly agree while 29% strongly disagree. This means that majority of the respondents think that instead of computers, laptops for each student will be more effective in their studies.

Teachers' Dependence on Computers as a teaching tool

1- Do not depend too much 0% 25% 2 0% 4% 3 4 5 - Depend too much

71%

In the last question, the researchers asked the selected students to rate the teachers dependence on computers as a teaching tool, 5 as the highest (meaning they depend too much) and 1 as the lowest. 71% of the respondents answered 3 as their rate of dependence while 25% answered 4. On the other hand, 4% of them answered 2. Based on these, the researchers can now conclude that majority of the students think that the teachers dependence is only on an average. Other than the data above, the researchers also gathered other thoughts and opinions from the respondents. When asked about the advantages of having computers inside classrooms, they answered quite a lot. Majority of the respondents answered that it is definitely easier to access information through technology. Since computers are types of visual aids in teaching, some said they understand the lessons better while enjoying. It also paves the way in presenting the lessons in a more interesting manner. On the other hand, others see the advantage of not moving into another location anymore therefore will save time. Finally, some of them also pointed out that

through the help of computers, they can participate more actively since they only need to listen to the teachers discussion and just copy notes once it is already sent by the teacher. They saw the point of saving time and also chalk. When asked if there were disadvantages of having computers inside classrooms, majority answered yes. Theyve written on the survey form that computers may be misused and be a cause of distraction. Others say that it takes up space and consumes lots of energy. Additionally, they also said that some of the teachers depend on it too much and when the electricity goes off, lessons wont be implemented properly. There were also difficulties encountered in the past wherein USBs had viruses and got broken, etc. Also, the students complained that they cant go to other venues anymore because the computer is already inside the classroom. Lastly, they also pointed out that some students dont copy notes anymore and just wait for the powerpoint to be uploaded by the teacher. Every school aims to offer quality education to its students and one way of doing so is to improve the school facilities necessary to fulfill modern day education and research needs. In order to maintain the basic requirements of education, the learning process must be accompanied by different facilities such as computers for students to get the best possible education they could get. According to Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui in his book, Challenges of Educational Technology, New technology-based models of teaching and learning have the power to dramatically improve educational outcomes. Teachers and administrators who use new media are assumed to be automatically more effective than those who do not. Classroom computers are envisioned as a technology comparable to fie: just by sitting near these devices, students get a benefit from them, as knowledge and skills radiate from the monitors into their minds. The advents of innovative information and communication technologies have induced tremendous changes in the present education system. These interactive technologies have affected the very nature of teaching and learning. This just shows how modern day technology such as computers can have a great impact on the improvement of the educational system being experienced now. Students are not just the one who benefit from computers but also teacher. Because of the vast technology that we get to experience right now, teachers have more opportunities to improve class discussions which make them more effective. Unlike before, both the teachers and the students have a hard time enhancing and improving themselves because of the lack of multimedia materials which aids in

the learning process. In Encyclopedia of Education and Technology Vol.2, Ann Kovalchick and Kara Dawson stated, Technology in classrooms should take advantage of the capabilities of technology and extend instruction beyond or significantly enhance what can be done without technology. Indeed, teachers and students alike must take advantage of the vast technology that we are currently experiencing. School facilities such as computers are created for a purpose and that is to ensure that quality education is being given to all students. Technology is used to properly aid the learning process where both the teachers and the students will surely benefit. The main purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of computers as educational tools inside the classrooms. Whether the computers are effective enough in aiding the learning process of students in the High School Department of STC were determined through a period of study within 6 months and the survey questionnaires that were given. There are a total of 24 respondents which consist of 8 students from each year level ranging from the first year level up to the fourth year level. Some questions regarding the effectiveness of computers as educational tools inside the classrooms and the advantages and the disadvantages of having computers inside the classrooms are found on the survey forms. An important finding that the researchers were able to take note of is that all respondents agreed that computers are effective enough in improving the educational system of the school and those computers are effective enough as educational tools inside the classrooms. The most common advantage that the respondents get from having a computer inside the classroom is the opportunity to have easy access on different information which help in their understanding of the lessons being presented in class. On the other hand, the most common disadvantage that the respondents get from having a computer inside the classroom is the possibility of the students to get distracted from the computers. These findings just show that computers may bring positive results to students but there are also factors that affect the effectivity of computers inside the classrooms. Nevertheless, the researchers were able to conclude that computers are effective enough as educational tools inside the classrooms because of the different factors that were mentioned in this research including the result of the survey that was conducted. One factor is that it was true that computers doesnt just help the students to cope up with everyday lessons but because both the teachers and the students were able to benefit from computers which helps them enhance and improve themselves as they journey into the learning process. Without computers, different learnings inside the classrooms wont be supported by different facts and theories which can be presented more clearly with the

help of the different school facilities such as the computers. With that in mind, computers really play a big part in the kind of education that the school provides to its students. With the help of the different school facilities such as the computers used inside the classrooms, students can rest assure that they are getting the best quality of education that they truly deserve.
