TCI is Indias leading integrated supply chain and logistics solutions provider. It is was founded in the year 1958 by late Sh. P.D. Agarwal. The different diversified areas where TCI has its presence are: TCI Freight TCI Supply chain solutions TCI XPS TCI Global TCI Foundation TCI developers The services provided by TCI Freight are : FTL ( Full Truck Load ) LTL ( Less than Truck Load ) Small Packages ( Sundry ) Over Dimensional Cargo Road and Rail Transportation The overall core business of TCI freight can be simply explained by the following figure.

Booking is made in following 3 different methods: 1. To Pay: In this method, freight amount is collected at the time of delivery. 2. Paid: In this method, Freight amount is collected at the time of booking and money receipt is issued as evidence. 3. To be Billed at: In this method, a contract is there between party and company and bills are raised on regular intervals with party code only to customer who gives minimum business of Rs. 50,000 per month. Consignment Note: Document issued to Consigner in evidence that goods have been received for transportation on specified terms & conditions. The Consignment Note is prepared as 5 copies. They are: 1. Consignee copy 2. Consignor copy 3. Lorry hire contract 4. Record copy 5. File copy The consignment is prepared at two risks. They are: 1. Carrier Risk: Company is fully responsible for any loss / damage to the consignment and is bound to pay the claim of the damage/loss. Cover charge is charged on Carriers Risk. 2. Owner Risk: Company is NOT liable to pay claims directly for any damage/loss, unless proved that loss happened due to Companys negligence. Party to insure the goods with Insurance Company.

Some of the very important documents that are used in operations of TCI- Freight are: 1. Goods Forwarding Note: This is the document filled by the Consignor at the time of Booking which gives the permission to carrier to carry the consignor goods. 2. Challan: Challan is a document that provides information about the Consignments which are being carried in the Truck to a specific destination. 3. Lorry hire contract: Lorry hire contract is an agreement between owner/ driver of the truck and carrier (TCI). Marking: The procedure of Marking can be shown with the below figure.

Transshipment: A point where the materials are consolidated & redirected is called Transshipment and the point is called Transit point. As most of our target business is sundry cargo, transshipment is a very important activity in our operations. Through this transshipment the sundry material is consolidated and adjusted to earn more profit.

There are 3 categories of Transshipments. They are: 1. Category A: The regions which handle more than 1000 trucks per month come under this category. Lamba, Nigdi, Nelmangla, Verdhamana, Bhiwandi, Rewari come under this category. 2. Category- B: The regions which handle less than 1000 trucks per month come under this category. Adergunchi, Chandpur, Dewasnaka, Tatibandh, Vanasthlipuram, UP boarder, Kanyapalyam , Asanbani come under this category. 3. Category- C: In these stations, the activities are authorized for that area only and do not have direct service to all TPT and go via other TPT. Madhavram, Jaipur, Satana, Hajipur, Ichhapuram, Jagatpur, Raxaul, Vapi come under this category. Learning from the visit to Rewari Transshipment centre: Godown Layout: The Godown Layout of Rewari Transshipment centre is : Covered- 14,000 sqft Uncovered- 25,000 sqft

There are two types of routes. They are: 1. Feeder route: the route from branch to hub and hub to branch is called a Feeder route. 2. Express route: the route from hub to hub is called an Express route. Stacking: Stacking is generally done considering two factors. They are: 1. Route wise material stacking 2. Type of packing Goods Maintenance: Goods are classified and stacked according to their types of their markings. A Lorry is hired in two methods. They are: 1. Vendor based: In this complete money is paid after every month by the company to the vendor of the lorry. In this method, the company gets high benefits.

2. Lorry hire contract In this, the truck is generally hired from other party through a broker. In this method, 75% of the money is paid when loading and 25% is paid at the delivery time. The different documents in LHC are: 1. Advance Voucher copy 2. Final Lorry hire payment 3. Acknowledgement copy 4. File copy
