BERNSTEINS SENIOR SURVIVAL GUIDE INSTRUCTIONS

You are being asked to design a "survival guide" for yourself, something that will help you cope and provide focus for all the decisions you will be forced to make in the near future. This is a research paper, but you will research material that will help you with this decision-making process. *First, you must research two potential careers. Include educational requirements, salary scale, growth potential, why each career interests you and what character/personality traits, special skills you possess that will enable you to do well in this career. This should be in chart format. A. educational Requirements, B. salary, C. growth potential (is this industry growing?), D. Characteristics needed, E. Interest (why are you interested in this career? *Second you must research two colleges: your "dream school," one SUNY college (State University of New York) and/or CUNY college (City University of New York) and/or a sleep-away college. For each college you must provide: A. admission requirements, B. tuition, C. if sleep away - information on room and board D. scholarship information, E. commutation time and cost- how long does it take to get home, recommended mode of travel and how much will this cost. F. In addition, please cite geographic location and provide some information on the climate. (This is particularly important when considering sleep-away colleges). G. You must provide a map of each campus. H. There are also sources out there that provide information on the "real" reputation of a college: Is it a party school? Include this info as well. *In addition, under your research for each college explain in a paragraph why that school is or is not suitable for your needs. All of this information should be provided in a chart format for each school. *Following your research, you should complete a high school resume. In your resume you will document all the information necessary for faculty to really know you before they write your college recommendations. Resumes should be concise (no more than one page) and easy to read and briefly describe your involvement in school (clubs, teams, honors, etc). It should also include any service you have done and work experience you have acquired with a brief description of your responsibilities. * You need to have a cover to your project that includes: Senior Survival Guide, an image, your name, my name, and the period * The first page of your Survival Guide should be a Table of Contents indicating the page numbers of all subsequent materials. *The second to last item of your Survival Guide will be an essay, a typical college/scholarship essay on one of the following topics: * an obstacle youve overcome * an accomplishment of which you are most proud * a turning point in your life * a person or historical/political figure who has had a major impact on your life * How has your family, faith or culture impacted your life and your career goals? Your essay should be approximately 400 words, typed, double-spaced (12 font). *The last page of your Survival Guide should include a bibliography (Works Cited List) crediting all sources used.
