Im not sure about NSW but in QLD you need to purchase a 'permit' to have the bike on road. It allows you to ride the bike to and from the workshop during daylight hours. I'd assume NSW would have the same set up? best of luck.

Amazing job youve done man, just read through the entire rebuild over the last 30 minutes, some very impressive work you have done. Good luck with getting it registered etc, and hopefully youll be out on the roads in no time And btw, definitely don't be scared to get a loud exhaust. I have like the worlds loudest exhaust lol, and i only have a ninja 250 and i love it to pieces. __________________ ~~~~NR Crew Represent~~~~

haha nice, Crashdummy and i went out to check on a zzr250 when i was still shopping around, was surprised how nice they sounded even stock! But heres a few last little things. Got the fairings on after making sure the oil wasnt turning into milk yet again and it hasnt. looked like the pump WAS the problem after all. good-o Grabbed a new flasher relay for the blinkers. They were acting uber spastic but both lights came on when the flasher plug was shorted out, so that was definitely the problem.

This is the new style (circular) vs the old style apparently. its a genuine "super winker" brand! but it fit on the old mount and the blinkers are all sorted. A cheap fix at $4

As for the chain id left it for ages cause it looked like a right ass of a job. and i wasnt wrong XD. The regina chain has solid steel pins so rivetting them is pretty hard. I ended up just modifying the little jig i made to press the plate on by drilling a hole in the middle and grinding a chisel end onto a m6 bolt, then hardened it by blasting it with a mapp torch and dumping it into some motor oil. A sledge hammer then smashed out the end of the link. The link doesnt bind so i guess thats a success.

The link pins measure the same diameter as the other staked ones, so it wont come off (hopefully!). Rather annoyingly though when i went to throw out the box the other day i found the master link they supplied stapled inside. ARHGH Got sick of the tattered old grips so i grabbed some new ariete ones and some honda grip glue. Feels much better now, and the grips dont come off when sitting in the sun for a while. handy! Plus if the picture is anything to go by, ill be doin monos in no time!

Buttttt it wouldnt be normal if i didnt screw up something. Which i did by trying to twist the grip onto the throttle tube with it all still mounted on the bike which resulted in the switch block locating pin snapping off At least the fix was easy, drilled a hole in the switch block and forced an old grub screw into it. solved!

Also sorted that fuel pump routing problem by using 3 bits of 10mm aluminium tube, 2x 90 degree 10mm hose elbows, two bits of 8mm diameter hose and a shitload of hose clamps. hey it works! haha While i was at it i also replaced all the fuel hoses. $12 for 2 meters is pretty good i thought.

Is there some kind of award for the most judicious use of hose clamps? And lastly i nearly died when i had it all together and was about to go for a test ride, clicked it into first, let the clutch out slowly annnndddd it just kept idling without moving Looks like the previous owner wound the clutch pushrod adjuster out all the way. Readjusting that had it all working proper. Was shyting myself for a while cause a clutch rebuild would've killed me money wise hahaa. Bonus being that the mysterious rattle is gone having done that. awesome What remains now? Blue slip, rego basically and final tuning. It runs a little lean cause it comes down to 2000rpm super quick but hangs a bit before going back to 1700 despite the exhaust reaking of being rich. i suspect thats just moisture and soot from the bike having sat for so long and running out of tune for quite a while.. ill see after a decent ride then after that and a bit of road time ill look at getting the fairings/rearsets/exhaust all done nicely and put some decent oil in it. + cheers for the tips regarding the unregistered vehicles. I called the RTA about the day pass but they also weren't sure whether they were allowed to be issued to unroadworthy vehicles. useless thinks. lol. ill just trailer it down and be done with it me

do some work

Instead I went for a ride even with my bad ankle hehe

I am sad inside that I didn't get a 4 cylinder bike for my learner period, because I love the sound that they make However I also adore the roar of my twin at 10,000RPM

Good going!!!! Dude I have to give it to you double thumbs up for perserverance and ability. What sort of work do you do for a living Glen? Considering the tools you have and the problem solving methods you employ, I bet you are pretty good at your job. PS I will be emailing this link to ShervinRRR for his take on your build eh? Want to see what sort of input we can get from him. PPS The sound of a twin is second to none @extermin8tor! __________________

LOL the rizzay touch is totally needed. i was thinking of "porting" the frame but its too small. guess ill have to just make some aerodynamic indicators instead Dont forget to tell the gpx250 exhaust guy too As for work im a bum at the moment lol, used to work for a auto alarm company but got sick of working for someone else. So im working on a little online buisiness selling custom CNC parts for race minimotos. Might even be some bike bits on there as well later! shall see how it all goes Last post for a while i guess. Took the bike out for a spin this mornin. At first it wouldnt go cause the fuel hose was being pinched by the fairing and it felt like it was tricky shifting up but not down, which turned out to be the shift lever was set too high. so after the fuel hose was sorted with some re-routing and the lever lowered all was well. Much better to ride than that cb250 thing i did the test on Rather underwhelming though in speed 250. i guess i just expect too much from a lil

dont laugh at my sidestand Best shop for some tyres as well. a 3 year old front and 5 year old rear arrowstax probably arent ideal. Might get some BT45s cause ill probably do a fair few km's. + termin8r, they sound pretty cool, but actually having some torque is probably far more useful in a learner bike The race hyosungs that are raced in formula xtreme sound exceedingly bad ass as well, IMHO even better then the 1098s. I think they use hayabusa pistons in em Anyway hopefully ill see some of yah's out and about!

Great job getting it all finished. In the photos the paint doesn't look bad so don't worry about it. You have a ridable bike! __________________ ..Torque is cheap..

SOOooooo. All registered! Did a bit more tuning of the carbs cause it seemed to be lean, so a quarter turn out from stock on the pilot screws cleared that up and had it running good. Still a bit hard to start in the mornings dead cold, but i think thats cause its been running so out of tune for so damn long. Ill give it a good run down before making final judgement on that or doing any more returning So as for the rego mumbo jumbo, i was going to ride it down myself but pussied out at the last minute and had a friend ride it down to the auvis place.

Join Date: Oct 2010 Posts: 433 Location: NSW Rep Power: 63

My friend did say it had a shocking weave at speed though which was a bit of a worry But after we inflated the front to about 35psi it was all good. I had a bit of a ride with it at the factory stated 29psi and it sure does weave pretty good. I guess the bike is saying it needs new tyres? or the arrowstaxes like a bit more pressure than the originals brand? All the smoke it was previously belching has cleared up as well on the ride, so thats another worry gone. Guess it was just the moisture that'd soaked into the exhaust packing and petrol pooling in the headers. Looks like the bike is all pretty sorted now! Had a quick ride myself and thought it to be pretty awesome and fast till i looked down and saw i was only doing 80kmh @ 6000rpm XD. oh dear. Blue slip was much ado about nothing, im having a bit of a laugh looking back on it. all that panicking getting the bike looking pristine and it was more or less checking the lights worked blinkers etc and verifying the VIN and engine number. $33 later and thats that! Recieved a nice anal raping from the NRMA however, with ctp at a sumly $460. only $54 more than my parents lancer >__>. Lovely. Insurance looks like its set to be around $1000 for me after a shop around, for full coverage at the cheapest. So maybe ill just have to settle for third party? Is that what most people do? advice? Anyone mind if i turn this into some kind of n00b diary as well? Never had a car license or bike one so im kinda starting from dead scratch. Would be nice to look back on it one day

LOL you are kidding me? No license ever at all? Mate - fkn awesome work on the bike considering this. go 3rd party, ride your GSX250F for a couple of years to build your rating up to a point where you dont get an ass raping by the insurers. try getting a quote for a larger capacity bike like a gixxer 600/750 or yammy r6 and see what sort of pain you would be expecting. go to insuremyride.com.au and you can play around with the quote calculator. __________________

well done with the bike mate, as far as 250's go the 4cyl screamers are as quick as they come. Keep in mind they dont 'go' until about 15000rpm Im 19, guessing your about the same? my bike and car is only 3rd party insured because it is way to expensive for comprehensive.

Thanks for the words! it means alot and nope, no license so far, i bought a Fiat x1/9 that i was sposed to get going years ago for my first car at 16, but i got sick of it and just never did anything about it XD thats the next project though.. definitely goes better than i thought it would, cant wait till i can get out tommorow and wind it right out And yeah it looks like ill be doing the 3rd party, the bike only cost $2k give or take so it seems a bit silly to insure it for 1k a year.

Join Date: Oct 2010 Posts: 433 Location: NSW Rep Power: 63

If my understanding is correct 3rd party covers if you hit someone elses car but not for the damage on yours? (forgive my n00bery im still new to absolutely everything heh) if so i can deal with that having a look at the calculator now, cheers for the link!

Yep that right Glen. If your at fault then your insurance covers the cost to their property. If they are at fault then you just hope they have insurance. best of luck

Yeah I am with IMR, they are pretty good, cost me about 80$ this year for third party because I changed bikes and they just updated the policy (was on a 125cc bike). If you are worried about theft I would get full coverage, but in Adelaide as long as you don't leave your bike on the street at night its all good! (If its a ratty bike like mine lol)

Awesome, just had a shop around for third party and IMR was the cheapest. $149 for 3rd party with $1000 gear cover which only added $10 or so extra. So ill probably go with that Got to the bottom of the weaving issue. The service manual states 29psi front 32psi rear, turns out thats for the outdated dunlop K505, the 501 arrowstaxes need 42 front and rear. Ill run down and pump them up to 42 tommorow and see how she goes And lastly, finally managed to find a place that sells redline water wetter locally (have been buying it online for my minimoto) so i can put some proper stuff in the coolin' system finally. Happy days Oh and random musing. If one was to perhaps roadtrip it up to brisbane from sydney would making a fuel cell for the frunk (the fake boot thingo) really be that much of a bad idea. you could easy get another 10-15L in that thing! Be a good time to give the new tig a go anyway.
