Please note that this is a list of the essential readings for each subject. You will receive a full Subject Outline for each subject at the Faculty of Law Orientation Session on Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012. Each outline will contain a list of other recommended readings and resources (including details of the readings required for classes in Week 1).

E Ellis , Principles and Practice of Australian Law (2nd ed, Thomson Reuters, 2009) - $81.00 The Australian Constitution. A copy of the Australian Constitution can be accessed online: http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/general/constitution/index.htm and is also available in hardcopy from the UOW library. A pocket size hardcopy version can be purchased from the UniShop for $2.95. It is also strongly recommended that you buy a legal dictionary for use in this subject and also LLB110 Legal Research & Writing: LexisNexis Concise Australian Legal Dictionary (4th ed, LexisNexis Butterworths, 2011) - $69.00 or The Australian Law Dictionary (Oxford University Press, 2010) - $62.95
NB: This dictionary is available online via the UOW Library, however, given the difficulty of consulting this 676 page book in this form you are advised to buy a hardcopy.

However, given the difficulty of using this 332 page book frequently in this form you are advised to buy a hardcopy. It is very reasonably priced ($27) and will serve you throughout your studies. This is the style adopted for all Law Faculty assignments/submissions.

You should also have an English dictionary and a thesaurus.

D Brown, D Farrier, S Egger, L McNamara & A Steel, Criminal Laws: Materials and Commentary on Criminal Law and Process in New South Wales (5th ed, Federation Press, 2011) $145.00 this book is also the prescribed text for LLB180 Criminal Law & Process B in Spring Session 2012.

LLB150 Communication Skills


No prescribed textbook a collection of readings for this subject will be available for purchase at the UniShop (cost to be advised).
