The Phenomenon of Starlings

Every year during the fall and winter, thousands of these birds perform shows in the city sky
Text by Gustavo Tamasco

A few months ago was in the New York Times published an interesting article on the phenomenon of starlings in Europe, more specifically in Rome.

Every year during the fall and winter, thousands of these birds perform shows in the city sky, like shoals of fish, they move in unison fantastic maneuvers to fend off predators.

The photographer Richard Barnes made an incredible series of photographs of the "ballet" of these birds, recording one hand the smoothness of the movements of the crowd like the threatening tone that conveys the dark cloud.

The Black Sun of Denmark

During spring in Denmark, approximately one hour and a half before sunset, , flocks of more than a million European starlings arrive from all corners to creating incredible formations as shown in the picture above. This phenomenon is called Black Sun in Denmark, and can be witnessed in early spring along the plains of western Denmark, from March until midApril. The starlings migrate south and spend the day in the meadows joining food, while sleeping in the midst of plantations causing real damage.

This phenomenon of starlings is one of the seven wonders of nature, being made in the voyages of migrating birds searching for more food and places where it can provide a housing to them. Millions of starlings migrate every year around the globe causing great harm to farmers, but provide us with splendid images that fill the eyes of those who see them.

Different Animals of Nature

Tremoctopus Violaceus
Also known as Octopus veil, the female of this species is 40,000 times heavier than the male. While it measures up to two meters long, he comes to a measly 2.4 cm. The female usually extend your veil when you threatened to look bigger and scarier than it already is.

Centrolenidae
Frogs from this family are characterized by the almost transparent skin. They live inrainforests of Central and South America also known as the glass frog, almost all its organs are apparent.

Psychrolutes marcidus
The Blobfish, or the ugliest fish in the world, is rarely found alive. Denizen of the deep seaof Australia and Tasmania, is gelatinous and slightly lower density than water, so it is almost taken for it and just use their muscles flaccid.

Proteus anguinus
It is a blind amphibian very common in groundwater of caves in southern Europe. Lives exclusively in places without light, is also known by the inhabitants of the region as humanfish because of the color of their skin. Despite the atrophied eyes, your smell and hearingare highly developed.

Sternoptychidae
This fish family dwelling almost all the oceans, less colder water. How Blobfish proteusand also lives in dark environments. It has lightproducing organs on the sides to foolpredators.

Kiwa hirsuta
The hairy crab is covered in fact by bristle similar to shrimp. It uses its bristles to filter thewater around it. Blind and colorless, also lives in the darkness.

Uroplatus phantasticus
Best known as lizard satanic leaf-tailed, the species above is from the island of Madagascar. But, as several animals of the region, is likely to be extinct because of habitat destruction and hunting made by collectors. The gecko uses to camouflage their appearance, and despite the satanic look, only feeds on insects.

Phycodurus eques
This sea dragon is a fish that lives in the guise of algae. He lives in Australia floating insurface waters. Because it is very stealthy, hunting by ambush. It is currently threatened.

Seal escapes from shark attack white !

The scene took place in False Bay, South Africa. A group of tourists - including the photographer Chris Fallows, owner of the photo - admired seascapes, water emerged from a white shark about 3 feet long trying to grab a baby seal that swam in the region.

But for the sort of creature, the shark miscalculated his attack and managed to balance seal up and run a quick maneuver: balanced on the tip of the nose of the predator, gave impetus and quickly returned to the water. The shark does not give up and continued his search for fresh food. It was not possible to know whether or not he reached the goal.

Ecology
Small ideas can change the world.

Shoes becomes the strength of his journey into electricity to charge gadgets Soon, in addition to cushioning the impact when walking or jogging, your shoe may also give a force for charging your cell phone or laptop. It's that two researchers at the University of Wisconsin, USA, settled on a pair of shoes a system for converting mechanical energy into electricity for our past.

The researchers took advantage of a phenomenon of physics that causes fluid to move when they receive an electric charge. However, the logic reversed and made to move the liquid to generate electricity. And so we created the system that goes inside the shoes: they are two reservoirs of liquid metal connected by a tube filled with nano electrodes. As we walked, the liquid moves from one reservoir to another, generating an electric current. It is stored in a battery located at your fingertips. To load a gadget, just use the USB port on the heel of the shoe. The prototype was made with 150 drops of conductive metal. With a version of a thousand drops, could generate up to 10 watts (enough to complete the load of a smartphone). With the technology at hand, physicists are now seeking partnership in the footwear industry.

Caution!
Pollution
Pollution is the human interference in the environment, whose result is negative. Its effects often can not be felt immediately by the population, but are noticed in the long term. There are types of pollution, and the most common of the air and water. Air pollution, air, is the contamination of the atmosphere with noxious gases. One of the problems caused by air pollution, is global warming which is one of the main enemies of the current biodiversity. According to the UN (United Nations), the twentieth century was the most hottest of the last five centuries, with an increase of 0.3 C to 0.6 C in average temperature. The seemingly small number is enough to cause massive environmental disasters, leading to destruction of habitat for animals like polar bears, penguins and others, and also the complication of animal habitat dry, but what the the reason? The increase in sea level, which is another major contributor to environmental degradation that occurs today.

12

The second most common pollution is water, which can be as devastating as air. Dispose of chemicals, sewage and mining. The three worst attitudes to nature and its water resources, to cause the deterioration of rivers, lakes and oceans of the world and, therefore, the main causes of water pollution. The consequence is mainly infect animals or killing them with thirst, lack of clean water. These are just two of the major environmental problems. But two problems that must be handled very carefully.
