ndependence Day is a time

of great tradition and cele-
bration here in the United
States. Most of us like to cele-
brate this holiday with a relax-
ing day off of work and a bar-
beque attended by our family,
friends, and neighbors. Burgers
and hotdogs, fireworks, flags,
and parades are the essentials
for celebrating the Fourth of
July. Of all the holidays we
celebrate in our country,
Independence Day is the most
important one for Americans,
yet we often forget why that is
so. Like any other holiday in
the USA, we tend to over com-
mercialize the day through mass
consumerism. When this hap-
pens, we lose sight of the impor-
tant significance of what we are
celebrating; we get so caught up
in the festivities that we miss
the reason for the celebration.
July 4th is not simply a day off
from work to enjoy a burger in
the backyard with a pretty fire-
work display at night; it is a day
that celebrates our freedom.
As Americans, we are
notoriously known as ignorant
about our countrys founding
and the reason for our freedom.
Since I have first started attend-
ing college, I am constantly
made aware of this stereotype. I
have had the privilege of mak-
ing some friends with interna-
tional students who usually
complain about the ignorance
of the American people as a
whole. According to their
observations, Americans are
completely clueless to how their
own country operates. In addi-
tion to that, they have observed
that we also take our rights for
granted. They see how fortu-
nate we are and the freedoms
we have, yet our attitudes
reflect a selfish sense of entitle-
ment.
One of the main reasons
behind our lack of knowledge
results from most of us (myself
included) becoming far too
comfortable with our standard
of living that we often forget
the fact that freedom comes
with a price. Unfortunately,
many people in the United
States do not even know some

s it written or guaranteed in
the laws of compensation
that one who works long
hours or under huge physical or
mental demands for a lifetime
is entitled to a retirement in
the lap of luxury? Where does it
say that people who work hard
for decades have an expecta-
tion or an entitlement of
wealth in their 60s, 70s, 80s,
90s, and even in to their 100s?
Do many years invested in edu-
cation for advanced degrees
offer the keys to the kingdom
and a comfortable retirement?
Where is it written that Im
entitled, assured, pledged,
promised, or guaranteed any-
thing in my future? It isnt! In
fact, the new axiom for retire-
ment planning must be: If it is
to be, it is up to me!
Yet certain people feel
they have it all coming to
them! They feel that time
invested working 95 for the
corporate world equates to dol-
lars they can withdraw out of
the system during retirement.
The problem is, however, the
system was never guaranteed. It
was over-stated, severely over-
relied-upon, and grossly under-
funded. There was never a
quality education offered in
defined contribution plan max-
imization techniques, whether
in school or on the job. A
defined contribution plan is the
real name of a 401k plan.
Further, there were no educa-
tional courses offered on how
systematically to remove the
funds to create a retirement
income to last the rest of your
life from your defined contribu-
tion plan, your IRA, your prof-
it sharing plan, Keogh plan,
SEP, TSA, traditional pension
plan (if you had one), union
annuity, or any other designat-
ed retirement income plan
source. No formal education is
required or offered by employ-
ers, the state, or the federal
government on retirement dis-
tribution planning. The reason
is that no one, no company,
and certainly no government
wants the liability or responsi-
bility!

dental implant is an
artificial tooth root
replacement. It is
used to support restorations
that resemble a tooth, group of
teeth or dentures. The implant
is made of a titanium alloy that
allows bone to fuse with it. It is
immovable beneath the gums
allowing a stable base to fabri-
cate missing teeth without
harming the adjacent teeth.
The Mayan civilization
used implants over 1350 years
ago. An x-ray of an ancient
human jawbone showed bone
growth to metal replacement
teeth placed during life. In
1965, after 13 years of research,
orthopedic surgeon Per-Ingvar
Branemark placed the first
dental implant in a human.
Branemark used implants on
those who could not wear tra-
ditional dentures due to excess
bone loss. He revolutionized
medicine and dentistry with
his research in osseointegra-
tion (bone growth to titani-
um).
Dental implant place-
ment requires careful planning.
Medical and dental histories
are a must as are specific x-rays
and anatomical measurements.
The width and length of
remaining bone, proximity to
the sinuses/nerves and the gen-
eral health of the patient must
be carefully assessed. Major risk
factors to the success of an
implant would be smoking,
diabetes, periodontal disease,
bite dysfunction and general
poor health. All of this must be
taken into consideration to
insure a successful, long-lasting
result.
Dentists must receive spe-
cial training to be able to surgi-
cally place and then restore
implants. This education
includes both classroom and
clinical instruction.
Implants can be used to
replace a single tooth. Several
implants may be placed in
order to support a cemented
bridge. Implants provide not
only a look and feel that is very
close to natural, but they are
also permanent, strong and sta-
ble. These implants work like
natural teeth, helping people
to chew better while giving
them the security and confi-
dence in their smiles with
improved health and function.
Dental implants can be
placed in one visit, have a rel-
atively short healing time, and
have little post operative dis-
comfort. These benefits, as
well as the conservation of
tooth structure, make the den-
tal implant highly desirable to
my patients. This technology
has truly changed the direction
of dentistry forever, allowing
dentist to achieve a higher
health standard for their
patients. I am confident that
the work I do with implants
benefits my patients.

e all know people
are going through
tough times lately.
That fact, paired with the
highest prices ever for precious
metals, has created a perfect
storm for jewelry theft. If you
read your local police blotter
you will find items
being taken not only
during house invasions
(which are on the rise),
but also at house parties
when parents are away,
or even by relatives.
Because of actions
taken by local detec-
tives, much of what has
been stolen can be
retrieved if the victim
moves fast enough. In the past
few years, buyers of precious
metal items have been made to
document who is selling items
and take an image of those
items. Buyers are also made to
hold onto these items before
dispersing with them for a peri-
od of a few days to a week,
depending on the town. If you
have had a break-in or sudden-
ly notice jewelry missing,
report it immediately to your
police department. If you feel
uncomfortable because you
suspect a friend or relative,
most of the local detectives are
very sensitive to this kind of
situation and often can find
solutions that don't include
someone being brought up on
criminal charges.
If you have been lucky
never to have been the victim
of a theft or robbery, here are
some suggestions that may help
you prepare for the worst:
Get your jewelry and
valuable items appraised.
Having an accurate description
will help police in identifica-
tion and retrieval. This would
include having some kind of
image, be it a photograph or
even one made using a home
copy machine. Update your
appraisals every five years as
values change.
Get a separate insurance
rider for your valuables.
Appraisals are only a
part of your defense.
Most homeowner's
policies cover only up
to about $1,000, so you
are taking a huge risk if
what you own is worth
much more than that.
Get yourself a safe
deposit box at your
bank (They're cheap!)
and put anything you
haven't worn in a long time
and have no plans of wearing
any time soon into it.
Don't invite theft by
leaving your jewelry out in the
open. You may even want to
get a decoy jewelry box and
fill it with costume jewelry.
Find a good hiding place in
your house and put the good
stuff there.

very summer, home-
owners get the urge to
become gardeners.
Newspapers are filled with
advertisements dealing with
all aspects of gardening, from
when to plant, what type of
fertilizer to use, what tools to
buy, and how to deal with
those pesky insects. What is
not talked about are the sore
muscles and achy backs that
result from ones desire to
become that home gardener.
For a lot of people, gar-
dening is the first true physi-
cal exercise they have
endured since the fall
cleanup. Your mind is ready
to get out there to plant and
garden, but if you do not
warm up those muscles, your
body will later be telling you
something else. Keep reading
for some simple stretching
exercises and back safety tips
to get your body and garden
going.
Warming up the muscles
in the body is essential to
preventing injuries, pain, and
stiffness while working in the
garden. Increase flexibility
with gentle movements or
something as simple as an
invigorating walk. The
smooth coordination of your
muscles and ligaments is an
important part of keeping
Gardening and
your lower back
of their basic rights; and even
worse than that, they misin-
terpret or misunderstand
what a right means and thus
have no understanding of it
at all. If we fail to educate
ourselves on the basic rights
our founding fathers fought
for (and soldiers today con-
tinue to fight for), we do
them a great injustice by
leaving ourselves vulnerable
to forfeiting them. If we are
not aware of what freedoms
we are guaranteed by our
Constitution and how they
apply, we give the govern-
ment the ability to define
them for us, which can even-
tually result in us loosing cer-
tain freedoms; we may not
even realize this!
It is our duty as
Americans to inform our-
selves of the freedoms that
we are entitled to. We need
to make ourselves knowl-
edgeable in regards to our
rights so that they cannot be
taken away from us. The
Fourth of July is a day that
commemorates our freedom
and the rights we won when
the original colonies
declared themselves inde-
pendent of Great Britain.
Many lives were lost for this
cause so that generations of
American people could have
the freedom that was not
always to be had.
Every year we set aside
this special day in the sum-
mer so that we can all join
together and celebrate our
countrys independence. As
we gather around with our
loved ones and enjoy the bar-
beques and fireworks, let us
remember what we are cele-
brating: our nations inde-
pendence. It is our independ-
ence that enables us to live
such lives where we can take
pride in our country as well
as the rights that we the
American people are so for-
tunate to have.

Lower Back Extension
-Stand with feet shoulder
distance apart.
-Reach overhead with both
arms, keeping your elbows
straight.
-Watch your hands during
the movement.
-Arch your back and hold.
-Return to the start position.
-Perform this exercise in four
seconds and repeat 10 times.
Lower Back Lateral Shift
-Stand with left side to wall.
-Place hand on wall at shoul-
der level.
-Keep arm straight and feet
together.
-Slowly shift your hips
toward wall.
-Return to start position.
-Perform this exercise in four
seconds and repeat 10 times.
-Turn right side to wall and
repeat.
Lower Back Flexion
-Lie on back, bend left knee
up, and place hands around
knee.
-Grasp knee and pull toward
chest.
-Hold for five seconds and
slowly extend leg back down.
-Repeat with right leg.
-Continue exercise, alternat-
ing legs, and repeat 10 times.
Do not overexert your
lower back. The lower back,
or lumbar spine, bears most
of your body weight, making
it most vulnerable to pains
and problems. The lumbar
spine consists of five verte-
brae. Between the vertebrae
are jelly-like materials en-
cased in tough cartilage
called discs. The discs facili-
tate movement of the spine,
serving as shock absorbers
and reducing friction. Know
your strengths and limita-
tions. Vary your activities.
Take intermittent breaks and
drink plenty of fluids.
Avoid bending over
repeatedly while performing
ground-level work like weed-
ing, planting, spreading grass
seed, etc. Get closer to the
ground by kneeling or sitting
on the ground. A small stool
or chair may also be helpful
for these tasks.
Lift plants, shrubs,
stones, dirt, and other heavy
materials by letting your arms,
legs, and thighs carry the bulk
of the weight. With knees
bent, squat down keeping your
back straight and arms close
to your body. Lift the object,
keeping it close to your bodys
torso and center of gravity.
Remember your strengths and
limitations; always handle
smaller and more manageable
loads at a time.

Gardening and your lower back
continued from page 8

While performing gar-
dening tasks in the standing
position, long-handled tools
provide leverage and help
reduce stress on the lower
back. These tools help avoid
having to bend while per-
forming tasks such as digging,
raking, sowing, pushing, and
mowing. Always remember
to switch hands frequently.
Repetitive motion on one
side can bring on progressive-
ly serious joint imbalances
and may produce postural
misalignments and pain,
including muscle spasms in
the lower back. Change posi-
tions frequently, avoid
unusual and awkward move-
ments. By doing this you will
have better circulation,
mobility, and reduce the pos-
sibilities of muscle strain
injuries.
If the aches and pains of
gardening are slowing you
down, there are ways to alle-
viate the pains. Apply an ice
pack to the injured area dur-
ing the first 48 hours of
symptoms. If symptoms con-
tinue past the 48 hours, apply
moist heat to the affected
area. Do not put off visiting
your chiropractic physician.
Studies show that chiroprac-
tic care is more effective than
traditional treatment for
lower back pain, especially
when caught at its earliest
stage. Chiropractic physi-
cians are health care special-
ists trained to diagnose and
treat problems relating to
your spine and nerves.

and Steven Dickert at

Care, 973-305-1002. They

Brook Road, Suite 103, in

Drs. Fischgrund and Dickert
have combined for over 50
years of experience and love of
the area. They use gentle chi-
ropractic treatments to help
thousands in their community
feel better and live healthier,
more productive lives.

ntestinal parasites can
cause debilitating med-
ical problems to dogs and
cats, and even to us humans!
Most pets will have worms
at some point in their life-
times. These worms are most
commonly seen in puppies
and kittens but any animal
is susceptible, even a pet
that never goes outside.
Roundworms, hookworms,
whipworms, giardia, and coc-
cidia are the most common
culprits of these infections.
Routine dewormings and
fecal examinations are the
mainstays of identification
and treatment of these para-
sites. Year round total para-
site control, usually in the
form of a monthly heartworm
preventative, is the way to
decrease the incidence of
intestinal parasite infections.
Fecal exams performed
by your veterinarian can
diagnose intestinal parasites
by identifying the eggs of the
worms. Adult worms like
roundworms, hookworms,
and whipworms are usually
not shed in stools, making
identification by the pet
owner difficult. However, the
eggs of these worms are pres-
ent, though they are shed
intermittently. These eggs
are microscopic and too
small to be detected with the
naked eye. The Companion
Animal Parasite Councils
guidelines recommend fecal
examinations two to four
times during the first year of
life and one to two times per
year in adults, depending on
health and lifestyle factors.
Roundworms are the
most common intestinal par-
asite of dogs and cats.
Roundworm eggs are shed in
the feces of dogs and cats and
are spread when animals or
people come in contact with
the feces or soil. These
worms can also be transmit-
ted to puppies before they are
born and to kittens through
infected milk from the moth-
er. Roundworms can cause
diarrhea, vomiting, and the
potbelly appearance seen in
many puppies. Roundworms
do pose a significant risk to
humans. Contact with con-
taminated soil or feces can
result in human ingestion
and infection. Children are
more vulnerable to exposure
because they are more likely
to put dirt or other objects
into their mouths. Round-
worms in humans can cause
fever, lung and liver damage,
and even blindness.
Hookworms are also a
common parasite in dogs
and cats. These worms are
acquired by adult pets
through skin penetration and
ingestion of larvae in con-
taminated soil. Puppies and
kittens can also be infected
across the placenta and
through milk. These worms
hook themselves to the intes-
tinal wall and feed on blood,
and can rapidly cause anemia
and sometimes black, tarry
stool. Hookworm larvae can
infect humans by penetrat-
ing the surface of
a person's skin, typically
through bare feet. This
results in itchiness at the
point where the
larvae enter the
skin and visible
tracks on the skin
from the worms
migration called
cutaneous larva
migrans.
Whi pwor ms
infect only our
dogs, not cats. The
worms are passed in the feces
and can cause bloody diar-
rhea in dogs. The biggest
issue with whipworms is how
tough they are in the envi-
ronment, surviving adverse
conditions and extremely
resistant to drying. This
makes prevention and diag-
nosis very important.
The good news is intes-
tinal parasites are easily
treated with medication as
prescribed by your veterinari-
an. The Companion Animal
Parasite Councils guideline
for deworming and preven-
tion is as follows: Administer
dewormer to puppies at two,
four, six, and eight weeks of
age, followed by administra-
tion of a monthly preventive.
Administer bi-weekly de-
wormer treatment to kittens
between three and nine
weeks of age, followed by
administration of a monthly
preventive. Administer year-
round treatment with a
heartworm preventive that
has broad-spectrum activity
against intestinal parasites. If
your pet was positive for
worms, rechecking the feces
is important to make sure all
worms have been eliminated.
This is not a complete
list of intestinal parasites and
is not meant to scare you into
fearing your pet, but to vali-
date the importance of regu-

ou can hear that
famous voice singing
Schools out for sum-
mer! throughout the halls as
students run to their last bus
ride home. Even though Alice
Coopers classic tune is being
chanted by students nation-
wide, parents are dreading
their kids' idle time at home
for the next two-and-a-half
months. What should we do
with them all summer long?
this is the question shared
among parents and guardians
everywhere you turn. Brainy-
Acts is the answer!
Free time during the sum-
mer is the perfect opportunity
to prepare your students for
the upcoming school year.
Along with diving into the
pool, students must dive into
preparedness for educational
success. Taking a few hours a
week practicing math, review-
ing language arts, and studying
science and history will con-
struct a strong platform for
your children to be able to
launch their new school year.
Upon starting school in
September, students should be
ready to dive into their new
grade level with enthusiasm
and confidence.
Brainy-Acts keeps your
students' attention by imple-
menting a variety of tech-
niques to make learning diffi-
cult subjects fun. When the
brain is engaged and studying
is comfortable, your memory
opens up and takes over. It is
our goal at Brainy-Acts to
make learning as productive
and as exciting as possible, and
to produce enthusiastic edu-
cated students and positive
results for all to share.
Plato said: Do not train
children to learn by force and
harshness, but direct them to
it by what amuses their minds,
so that they may be better able
to discover their genius
inside. Collectively, Brainy-
Acts, our teachers, technology,
and interactive and exciting
lessons will help your students
discover their inner genius and
will encourage them to strive
for their biggest goals and per-
sonal success, while preparing
them, with coaching, for the
real world that awaits them
upon graduation.
School is out for summer,
but is not out forever! So seize
lar fecal exams and year-
round total parasite preven-
tion. To prevent or control
intestinal parasites, consult
your local veterinarian. For

lines, visit www.petsandpara-
sites.org.

RS Commissioner Doug
Shulman recently said,
Taxpayers should be care-
ful and avoid falling into a trap
with the dirty dozen. Scam
artists will tempt people in-per-
son, on-line, and by e-mail
with misleading promises about
lost refunds and free money.
Dont be fooled by these
scams.
The dirty dozen are the
12 most prevalent scams
detected by the IRS. Taxpayers
should take precautions to
avoid these and other suspi-
cious activities of scam artists.
The following scams make up
the 2012 dirty dozen listing.
Identity Theft. Topping
this years list is identity theft.
The IRS is increasingly seeing
identity thieves looking for
ways to use a legitimate taxpay-
ers identity and personal infor-
mation to file a tax return and
claim a fraudulent refund.
Phishing. Phishing is a
scam typically carried out with
the help of unsolicited e-mail
or a fake website that poses as a
legitimate site to lure potential
victims and prompt them to
provide valuable personal and
financial information that can
be used to commit identity or
financial theft.
Return Preparer Fraud.
Questionable return preparers
have been known to skim off
their clients refunds, charge
inflated fees for return prepara-
tion services, and attract new
clients by promising guaran-
teed or inflated refunds.
Hiding Income Offshore.
Individuals continue to try to
avoid paying U.S. taxes by ille-
gally hiding income in offshore
accounts or using offshore debit
cards, credit cards, wire trans-
fers, foreign trusts, employee
leasing schemes, private annu-
ities, or insurance plans.
Free Money. Scammers
have been preying on low-
income individuals and the
elderly by posting flyers in com-
munity churches, promising
that tax returns can be filed
with little or no documenta-
tion to receive free money
from the IRS or Social Security
Administration.
False/Inflated Income and
Expenses. This tactic is used by
scam artists who file false or
misleading returns to claim
refunds they are not entitled to
receive. One popular scam is to
report income that was never
earned to obtain refundable
credits.
False Form 1099 Refund
Claims. In this scam, the perpe-
trator files a fake information
return, reporting false with-
holding amounts that are sub-
sequently used to file erroneous
refund claims.
Frivolous Arguments.
Frivolous scheme promoters
encourage people to make
unreasonable and unfounded
claims to avoid paying taxes.
Falsely Claiming Zero Wages.
Filing a phony wage-related or
income-related information
return to replace a legitimate
information return has been
used as an illegal method to
lower the amount of taxes
owed.
Abuse of Charitable
Organizations and Deduct-
ions. Misuses of tax-exempt
organizations include arrange-
ments to improperly shield
income or assets from taxation,
attempts by donors to maintain
control over donated assets or
income from donated property,
and overvaluation of con-
tributed property.
Disguised Corporate
Ownership. In this scam,
domestic corporations and
other entities are formed to dis-
guise the ownership of a busi-
ness. They are then used to
under-report income, claim fic-
titious deductions, avoid the
filing of tax returns, or partici-
pate in listed transactions,
money laundering, financial
crimes, and even terrorist
financing.
Misuse of Trusts. Un-
scrupulous promoters have
urged taxpayers to transfer
assets into trusts, promising
reduced taxable income,
deductions for personal expens-
es, and reduced estate or gift
taxes that don't deliver as
promised.
Please contact us if you
are concerned about these or
any other questionable activity.

M
any homeowners
discover leaks inside
their homes after the
winter and spring seasons.
Severe weather conditions, like
last year's Hurricane Irene, can
also contribute to significant
roof problems.
Most roof problems are
visible and can be fixed imme-
diately, said Mark Gargas,
owner of Gargas Roofing and
Construction.
Even with this year's mild
weather, homeowners should
continue checking for any signs
of leaks, especially in hidden
areas such as attics, closets, and
unused rooms. If your roof
needs to be replaced, dont
wait. Putting it off can only
make water, pest, mold and
other damages to your home
worse.
Older roof systems dete-
riorate faster in homes with
poor ventilation and in areas
with wind-driven rains and
heavy snow buildup, said
Gargas. It's important to fix
any roof issues immediately as
that keeps the overall cost
down.
Here are few things to
keep in mind as you decide if
your roof needs to be replaced:
The most common signs
for roof replacement are curling
or decaying shingles, algae
growth on the shingles, and
obvious water stains on the
walls.
Curling, peeling or miss-
ing shingles expose the roof to
water damage and rot, and
make nearby shingles more sus-
ceptible to being blown away,
which accelerates roof damage.
If your roof is older than
20 years, you might want to
consider a new roof system
rather than repairing your
existing roof. To save money,
you can consider re-roofing if
your roof has only one layer.
Other important ques-
tions to consider: How is your
financial situation? Are your
happy with the look of your
roof? Has your decking become
rotted from long term leaking?
Are your insulation and venti-
lation levels adequate?
Today, we have many
types of shingle designs avail-
able. These designs not only
instantly add beauty and resale
value to your home, but can
actually save the homeowner
money. For instance, by
improving the attic ventilation
and installing cool shingles,
homeowners are able to enjoy
cooler homes and save on their
utility bills every month. We
get many thanks from our
clients for this!
Often we are asked about
shingles with a textured look.
These architecturally stylish
shingles have an attractive
appearance, adding depth and
dimension to the roof. They are
heavier and thicker than sim-
ple three-tab shingles, promot-
ing longer life and extended
durability. We install several
brands of architectural shin-
gles. As an added bonus,
we offer Lifetime GAF
Architectural shingles for the
price of 30-year shingles.
Replacing your roof early will save you money!

Thanks to many customers
and employees the food drive
this spring was a success.
Donations collected in the
Lincoln Park branch were
donated to Lincoln Park Food
Pantry located at the
Community Center. The
donations collected at the
Montville office were donated
to the Montville Kiwanis Food
Pantry located in the
Montville United Methodist
Church. Monetary donations
were also collected and were
donated to the food pantries as
well. Each Food Pantry servic-
es residents from their respec-
tive town. During the spring
and summer months there are
fewer donations to the Food
Pantries and with increased
requests for assistance the
shelves are empty. Here is a
small sample of food that was
collected during the food
drive. Thank you to everyone
who donated for making this
food drive a success, and for
helping your neighbors!

to an excellent start.
Avengers set a high bar for
the summer films to follow.
Although some have already
proved to be disappointing,
others are rising to meet
those high expectations. Men

release of Men in Black 2.
Although it has been a while,
MIB 3 picks up with the same
entertaining features as the

ot, lazy summer days
are too precious to
waste in the kitchen.
Enhance your outdoor leisure

colorful recipe.
Grilled Vegetable Napoleons
Ingredients:
Substitute or add other
vegetables as you wish. Some
nice additions might be new

addition to the required contri-
butions necessary to fund a
retirement plan in order to look
forward to any income over
and above the minimal social
security benefits they are forced
to self-fund as well. The pen-
sion plan of your fathers and
grandfathers generation has
gone the way of the dinosaur,
with the exception of govern-
ment and school system
employees. Even if full-blown
pension plans were available
today, they would be insuffi-
cient to provide for the cost of
living over normal life
expectancy. With current ane-
mic interest rates and volatile
stock markets across the globe,
the required contributions to
be able to guarantee a lifetime
income for each employee
would break the bank of most
employers ability to fund
them.
So what are people to do if
they desire guaranteed retire-
ment income for life and a
guaranteed rising income plat-
form from which to base it?
etables back to room tempera-
ture before proceeding.
Assembly:
Stir together the ricotta,
thyme, salt, and pepper in a
small bowl. Place one slice of
eggplant on a lightly oiled grill
sheet or foil pan. Spread 1
tablespoon of the ricotta mix-
ture over the eggplant. Cover
with 2 slices of zucchini, 1 slice
of onion, 1 slice of mozzarella, 1
slice of tomato, and 2 slices of
zucchini. Spread 1 tablespoon
of the ricotta mixture over the
onion, and top with another
slice of eggplant. Repeat this
procedure with the remaining
vegetables to make 5 more
stacks.
Insert a wooden skewer
through the centre of each
stack to create a hole from top
to bottom. Remove the bottom
leaves from each rosemary
sprig, leaving one inch of leaves
on the top. Insert 1 sprig into
the centre hole in each
napoleon, and return to the
barbecue.
Heat for about 10 minutes
on low, or until mozzarella is
melted and vegetables are
warmed through.

In MIB 3, an intergalactic
criminal, Boris the Animal,
escapes from a high security
prison located on the moon
and seeks revenge on the
human who locked him up:
Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones).
Boris travels back in time to
the year 1969 and kills Agent
K before he is able to arrest
him and have him locked away
for 40 years. Meanwhile, back
in 2012, Agent J (Will Smith)
is the only person who can
remember his partner. History
has been greatly altered and
the Earth is left defenseless
from an impending alien inva-
sion. Agent J must travel back
in time to the year 1969 to stop
Boris from killing his partner
or the consequences will
include the annihilation of
planet Earth.
When I initially heard
about a MIB 3, I had very low
expectations. Sequels, and
anything beyond that, usually
prove to be disappointing. I see
them as a trick to capitalize off
a huge hit in order for studios
to get audiences to see the
movie and fill their wallets. My
expectations were further low-
ered with the release of the
original trailer where I saw that
the premise of the film includ-
ed time travel. Although time
travel can sometimes offer a
captivating plotline, I thought
for a MIB movie they should
stick to the aliens. Despite my
initial thoughts, MIB 3 not
only proved to be a great
movie, but it also was an excel-
lent third installment that
wraps up the series terrifically.
The movie is filled with
scenes of action as well as con-
stant humor throughout, mak-
ing it thoroughly entertaining.
As is typical of the MIB
movies, we see some of the
most ridiculous aliens, some of
whom we are already quite
familiar with (Lady Gaga for
example). The plotline was
very intriguing and it carried
very well right up to the end-
ing. Even though I had
thought lowly of the time trav-
el concept, I actually found it
to enhance the movie and
make it even more exciting.
The 1960s version of New
York City was also a cool sight
to see; specifically the re-cre-
ation of places such as Coney
Island. What also made the
movie very enjoyable was its
completely unexpected and
actually touching ending. As
mentioned earlier, the film
draws the series to an excellent
conclusion that is both satisfy-
ing and memorable. MIB fans
will not be disappointed.
MIB 3 is rated PG-13 and
is now playing in theaters
everywhere including 3D
showings. If you are only plan-
ning to see a few of the sum-
mers blockbusters, definitely
make Men in Black 3 one of
them!

he Montville United
Methodist Church will
welcome its new pas-
tor, Rev. William Elkins, and
his family on Sunday, July 7.
Rev. William (Bill)
Wesley Elkins was born in
Cleveland, Ohio but grew up
in Tucson, Arizona. Although
he carries a very Methodist
middle name, his early reli-
gious upbringing was primarily
shaped by his doctor fathers
religion: golf.
Bill began his educational
work with a degree in English
from the University of Arizona
and moved to teach on the
Navajo Reservation in the area
of English as a Second
Language. He and Heather
Murray, also a teacher on the
reservation, were married and
began studying at Duke
University together, he in phi-
losophy and she in divinity
school.
With their one son,
Daniel, they moved to West
Virginia when Heather
received her first pastoral
appointment and Bill taught in
the gifted program in high
school and in a private school
for boys. He was invited to pas-
tor two small country churches
while finishing work on a
Master's in educational coun-
seling. That experience was
transformative for his life. His
next school was a seminary,
and he served small churches
in West Virginia until his grad-
uation from Methesco in 1985.
Bill, Heather, and Daniel
moved to New Jersey following
graduation; Bill to serve
churches and Heather to com-
plete a Ph.D. at Drew
University. His vision for min-
istry has been that of a
pastor/scholar in partnership
with communities of faith and
learning. His adjunct teaching
at Drew enables him to bring
gifted interns into contact with
small yet vital congregations
who have a heart for education
and ministry.
He has served on the
Conference Board of Church
and Society, and the Board of
Ordained Ministry, but his pri-
mary ministry beyond the local
church is with the Society of
Scriptural Reasoning, a nation-
al convocation of Jews,
Christians, and Muslims. His
hobby is the study of Abraham
Lincoln and the Civil War, and
the preservation of an antebel-
lum inn in West Virginia.
Heather is Professor of
Worship, Preaching, and the
Arts at Drew. Daniel is in grad-
uate school, studying political
science and history. Hannah
Arendt, a rescue dog, is the
first canine member of the pas-
toral family; both man and dog
are looking forward to
Montville Churchs beautiful
woods.

What if they desire principal
access, tax-advantages, and
safety of principal at the same
time? Is there a plan or program
for these people? Could the
same retirement program be
structured to protect the princi-
pal from the threats of a law-

longed stay in a hospital or a

stock market crashes or correc-

secure? The answer is yes, yes,
yes, and yes! If they make it
through these potential nega-

portfolio be further insulated
against the huge tax cost their
beneficiaries have to pay to NJ

resounding yes!
