The School Band 2.0: A Radiant Source of Social Transformation

Program

Conference Hosts: Professor Gary Hill Director of Ensemble Studies, Arizona State University Professor Eric Rombach-Kendall National President, CBDNA Director of Bands, University of New Mexico June 26 - 30, 2012 Tempe, Arizona

The Band Education Symposium provides each participant with a number of choices in sessions and topics. Everyone should plan to attend the morning plenary and conducting sessions. Attendees may choose to attend whichever afternoon sessions interest them most.

Types of Sessions:
Plenary:
Sessions attended by all involved with the Symposium. Introduces overarching

themes and previews Symposium offerings. Conducting:
Rehearsal lab with Symposium wind ensemble. Conducting participants will

conduct ensemble and receive feedback from faculty. Those not conducting will

observe sessions. Open Session:
These sessions are opportunities to discuss conducting, interpretation, athletic

bands, and administration with Symposium faculty. There is no set topic for the

sessions and people attending are encouraged to bring questions or subjects they

wish to discuss. Pedagogy:
Sessions addressing specic performance techniques and challenges associated

with specic instruments. Sessions are led by ASU faculty, alumni, and students. Technology:
Sessions focusing on methods for integrating music technology into your teaching

and/or ways which music technology program can compliment and augment

existing traditional music offerings. Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops or

other technology tools with them to these sessions.

Locations and Map:


All Symposium events will take place in either the Gammage Auditorium, School of Music West Building, or School of Music East Building. For events in the Gammage Auditorium please enter through the north lobby doors. For events in the School of Music rooms W117 or W130, please enter through the main lobby and proceed down the hallway directly to the left of the Organ Hall. Events held in the Recital Hall can be accessed through the elevators in the East Music Building (the round building that is not Gammage).
