INTRODUCTION TO IALF WEBMAIL

1. Login to Webmail
Get your email... Anywhere, Anytime! IALF Web Mail makes it easy to use your email account anywhere, with any computer, anytime you have access to the Web. Open your Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape, then type in: https://webmail.ialf.edu You must enter your mail address and password to logon and click the Sign In button to access your email. If you want to use IALF webmail from outside Resource Centre type this address http://webmail.ialf.edu

Message List The first page displayed after you log in is the Inbox Message Listing. All messages contained in your Inbox (or other folder, if you switch folders) will be listed in sortable columns: Subject, From, Date, and Size. From here you can mark messages as read, delete messages, move or copy them to another folder, or cause one to be displayed in the Message View.

2. Navigation Bar
Use the Navigation bar located in the left frame of your browser to navigate throughout WorldClient's main pages and your personal mail folders.

Get Mail
Click
Get Mail to check your POP mailbox(es) for new email messages.

Compose
Click Compose to move to the Compose page, which is used for composing email messages.

The Trash folder is used to protect you from accidentally deleting messages. When you Delete a message from the Message Listing, it will be moved to the Trash folder rather than immediately deleted. Clicking Empty Trash on the Navigation bar will permanently delete all messages currently stored in the Trash folder.

Logout
Click Logout to log off the WorldClient email system. You should always log out and close your browser when you are finished working with your mail. This will aid in making sure that your mail is secure at all times.

Folders

All accounts have four folders when they are created, which cannot be renamed or deleted. However, you can create, delete, and rename any number of other folders by using the Folders page, which is reached by clicking Folders on the Navigation bar. Clicking a specific folder on the Navigation bar will move you to the Message Listing of that folder.The four initial folders are: Inbox - This is your main mailbox folder. Your incoming mail is stored here Drafts - This folder is used for storing messages which you haven't yet completed or you wish to send at a later time. Messages will be moved here when you click Send Later on the Compose. Sent - When you send an email message, a copy of it will be stored in your Sent folder. This is useful for keeping a record of and/or reviewing all messages that you have sent in the past. Trash - This folder is used to protect you from accidentally deleting messages. When you Delete a message from the Message Listing, it will be moved to the Trash folder rather than immediately deleted.

3. Message View
When the Subject of a message in the Message Listing is clicked, the contents of the message will be displayed in the Message View. The information displayed will include the From, To, CC (if any), and Subject headers, as well as the body of the message and file attachments (if any). Image and text file attachments will be opened and displayed below the message body. If the attachment is in a format which your browser doesn't support, you can right click the attachment and use the shortcut menu to save or open it in the utility of your choice.

Click Back to return to the Message Listing. Click Prev to display the message listed above this one on the Message Listing. Click Next to display the message listed below this one on the Message Listing. Click this button to reply to the currently displayed message. You will be moved to the Compose Page which will have the To:, From:, and Subject: automatically filled in for you. The current message's From: address will appear in the To: header, the From: will contain your default email address, and the Subject: will be the same as the current message's preceded by "Re:". If the currently displayed message was addressed to multiple To: and CC: recipients, you can use the Reply All control to send your reply to all of the original recipients. In every other way this feature is identical to the Reply control explained above. This feature is identical to Reply except that the To: header will not be automatically filled in and the Subject: will be preceded by "Fwd:" instead of "Re:". Click this button to move the currently displayed message to the Trash folder for deletion. After removing this message, the Message View will display the next entry in the Message Listing. Click this button to display the message in a separate browser window from which you can use the browser's print controls (usually located on the browser's File menu or Toolbar).

Attachments

File attachments included with messages will be listed on the Message View page below the message body. Text and Image attachments will be automatically opened and displayed after the message body whenever possible. Formats and File Types which are not supported by your browser can be saved or opened by right clicking the attachment and using the shortcut menu to either save the attachment or open it with the appropriate utility.

4. Composing an Email Message


Use WorldClient's Compose page to compose new email messages. To reach this page, click the Compose button located on the Navigation Bar in the left frame of your browser. The Compose page will be opened automatically when Replying to or Forwarding messages.

1. Make sure that the From: box contains your correct email address. You may or may not have been
given permission to edit this entry.

2. Type the recipient's email address into the To: box. You can send the message to multiple recipients
by inserting multiple addresses into the To: box, separated by commas or semicolons.

3. Type the subject of the message into the Subject: box. Filling in the Subject: isn't required but is
customary and may help the recipients in identifying and referencing the message.

4. Type the body of your message into the text box provided beneath the message headers. If the text
of your message is too long for the text box, you can scroll through it by using the scroll bar on its right side. it. If you haven't finished composing your message - or if you wish to send it at a later time - click Send Later. The message will be saved in the Drafts folder for later use.

5. When you have finished composing your message, click Send Now on the Compose toolbar to send

Attaching Files to Email Messages


To include one or more file attachments with your message, click then follow the directions on the Attachments page. Attachments on the Compose page and

Advanced Options

There are several optional features available for use on the Compose page. To display these features clickAdvancedon the Compose toolbar located at the top and bottom of the Compose page.

By default, when recipients reply to your email message the reply will be sent to the address that was contained in the From: box of your message. If you want the reply to be sent to an address other than your From: then type the alternate address into the Reply To: box under Advanced Options on the Compose page.

Sending a Carbon Copy (CC:)


On the Compose page, the CC: option is used exactly like the TO: box. Type or use the Address Book button to enter email addresses to which you wish to send a copy of the message. All recipients of the message will be able to see that a copy has been sent to the CC: addresses. You can send the message to multiple CC: recipients by inserting multiple addresses into the CC: box, separated by commas or semicolons.

Sending a Blind Carbon Copy (BCC:)

On the Compose page, use this option exactly like TO: and CC:. The difference between CC: and BCC: is that the BCC: recipient's email address will not appear anywhere on the message itself. To: and CC: recipients will not be able to see which (or if any) BCC: recipients have received a copy of the message. You can send the message to multiple BCC: recipients by inserting multiple addresses into the BCC: box, separated by commas or semicolons.

Delivery Confirmation

On the Compose page, click this option if you would like your mail server to send you a message letting you know when your message was successfully delivered to the recipient's mail server.

Read Confirmation

Some recipients may have mail clients with the ability to send you a short message letting you know when a message from you has been read. Click this option on the Compose page if you would like a Read Confirmation message to be sent to you when possible.

On the Compose page, click this option to mark an outgoing message as High Priority and for immediate processing. Some mail servers process email messages at prescribed time intervals rather than immediately upon reception. Click this option if you would like your outgoing message to be processed immediately. Some mail servers do not honor the Priority command.

To Create a Contact
1. Open the WorldClient Address Book by clicking the "Address Book" link. 2. Click "Create a Contact", a new window will open up. 3. The name and email address fields are required for new contacts, but all other fields are optional (you may only have one other field, "Comments"). 4. Click "Save" to save the information you have entered or cancel to close the window without keeping the name and addresses you have entered.

Editing a Contact
Some addresses will change for contacts that you have in the address book, or you may want to alter comments that you have stored about certain people, you can edit the information to keep your records current.

To edit a contact
1. Open the WorldClient Address Book by clicking the "Address Book" link. 2. Click the "Edit" link to the right of the address that you desire to change, a new window will pop-up with the contact's information. 3. change the information that you need to alter. 4. Click "Save" to save your changes or "Cancel" to close the window without saving the changes you have made.

Deleting a Contact
Some contacts may no longer be necessary and you will want to remove them from your contact list.

To delete a contact
1. Open the WorldClient Address Book by clicking the "Address Book" link. 2. Click the "Delete" link to the right of the contact you want to delete. 3. WorldClient will ask you to confirm whether or not you want to delete the contact. Select "Yes" if you want to delete the contact or "No" if you don't want to delete the contact.

Sorting the Address Book


The WorldClient address book is sortable by clicking on the field headers on the address book's table. You can sometimes find different contacts by re-ordering the address book by email addresses or name.

1. Click the link in the table header entitled "Name" to sort the address listing by name. 2. Click the "Name" table header again to reverse the sort order.
