Bard Songs

Listed below are the basic Bardic Holy Songs available to Bard characters with an explanation of each song's benefit. The time listed is the minimum or maximum number of rounds that the music must be or can be played. Some Bard Songs may have a minimum level requirement to learn. Bard songs start their effect at the first note and end with the last note unless otherwise stated. The player should be encouraged to come up with his or her own unique song names and perhaps even come up with some sample lyrics or melody for each. Of course, this is not necessary for actual play but may enhance the role-playing aspect of the campaign. Alertness Song (Varies) While playing, and for 10 minutes afterward, all allies within 60 feet are less likely to be surprised, increasing the Advantage die roll by 1 per Bard level. Proficiency in this particular Bard Song may not be increased to achieve greater effectiveness. Sample Name: Holy Watch, or Guardian Hymn Battle Song (offense) (varies) While playing all allies within 60 feet receive the benefit of +1 (per 3 Bard levels) on their Attack rolls. The Bard may move about defensively, but may not attack during a round that he is playing. If the Bard is struck in combat, the effect is canceled until the Bard's next turn when he or she can resume playing. Sample Name: Battle Hymn of the Sword, or Sword of Truth Battle Song (defense) (varies) While playing all allies within 60 feet receive the benefit of +1 (per Bard level) on their Natural Armor Class. The Bard may move about defensively (and benefits from the AC bonus of his song), but may not attack during a round that he is playing. If the Bard is struck in combat, the effect is canceled until the Bard's next turn when he or she can resume playing. Sample Name: Battle Hymn of the Shield, or Shield of Grace Healing Rest (varies, Minimum is 1 hour, but normally 8 hours) By playing periodically during the periods of rest, each allied character receives the benefit of an additional point of healing. The Bard may not play other tunes during this time or else the benefits are lost for that rest period. The Bard receives the healing as well as the full benefits of the rest period even if they did not sleep. Sample Name: The Lords Rest, or St. Peters Lament Lullaby Song (varies, but minimum of 3 rnds) By playing lullaby, a Bard lulls those listening into a drowsy day-dreamy state. Allies are unaffected, but others have a -1 penalty Advantage, Attack, Saves, and Skill checks. An initial save vs Miracles is allowed. Sample Name: Angels Sleep Magic Dampening Song ( 5th level ) (Varies) When playing this tune, magical effects are easier to shrug off, granting a +1 (per 3 Bard levels) to any saving throw versus a magical effect. However, this song affects both allies and enemies equally. Sample Name: Shield of Faith Marching Song (Endurance) (varies, maximum of 8 hours) By playing a rhythmic tune during the majority of a day's traveling time, the allied group receives the benefit of double movement rate, but will be no wearier than if they had traveled the normal distance. After playing this song the Bard must rest for 8 hours before they can play again. Sample Name: Lords Army Meditations Song (varies, minimum of 10 min) This calming tune aids concentration and contemplation, allowing a character to gain Faith at double the normal recovery. All skills attempted while this song is being played gain a temporary +3 bonus. Sample Name: Amazing Faith Morale Boost (varies, minimum of 5 rnds) While the Bard plays, allies within 60 feet have the benefit of +1 on Advantage or saves against Phobias. The Bard may move about defensively, but may not attack during a round that he is playing. If the Bard is struck in combat, the effect is

canceled until the Bard's next turn when he or she can resume playing. Sample Name: Grace Be With You Morale Killing (varies, minimum of 5 rnds) While the Bard plays, any enemies within 60 feet have a penalty of -1 on Advantage or saves against Phobias. The Bard may move about defensively, but may not attack during a round that he is playing. If the Bard is struck in combat, the effect is canceled until the Bard's next turn when he or she can resume playing. Sample Name: Sins of the Season
