Why Hofstra?
Hofstra University has a long tradition of welcoming international students to its campus. International students attending Hofstra enjoy all the benefits of the American system of higher education in a selective, private, campus community that values diversity and promotes cross-cultural understanding. We currently enroll international undergraduate students from more than 50 different countries. Located on Long Island, New York, Hofstra offers students easy access to the cultural center of the world New York City. students benefit from the wide array of internship opportunities in New York City and take advantage of the many museums, Broadway shows, concerts, etc. Hofstras suburban campus is easily accessible, near two major airports (John F. What does a liberal arts education mean to me?

At Hofstra, your liberal arts courses and major program requirements are completed simultaneously, encouraging you to synthesize the knowledge you gain from both. You will learn to think critically about the world around you and master the oral and written communication skills required for active participation in society. Hofstra graduates emerge as lifelong learners.

Office of Multicultural & International Student Programs

The mission of the Office of Multicultural & International Student Programs is to contribute to the development of a multicultural and globally aware campus community by supporting, celebrating, and guiding the international and multicultural student communities at Hofstra. Furthermore, the office provides educational programs for the larger campus community on a variety of cultural, global, and social justice issues.

The Office of Multicultural & International Student Programs sponsors a variety of events and offers many services, including:
v International Student Orientation. v Immigration-related programs that provide an overview of optional and curricular practical training. v Visits to local museums and New York City attractions. v Programs geared toward international student life and success, such as Adjusting to Life in the United States and Academic Success in American Higher Education. v Hofstra Career Center events, which help prepare international students to find employment after they graduate. These events include Workplace Culture in the USA and Applying for an H1B Visa. v International Education Week, which honors Hofstras international student community.

We pride ourselves on our excellence in teaching. And all of us are convinced that for a student to get the maximum benefit from his or her education, it can only happen in an environment where teaching excellence is the highest priority. But teaching excellence doesnt just happen. It needs to be enriched by a faculty members active research agenda and scholarly pursuits. Through journal articles, textbooks, presentations, concerts, exhibits, and performances, our faculty have developed a national and international reputation. We have Fulbright scholars, guggenheim Fellows, National Endowment for the Humanities award recipients, National science Foundation award recipients, National Institutes for Health award recipients, as well as major foundation, corporate, and state and local government grant recipients. We have 22 national accreditations that verify the quality of our programs and the good work of our faculty. We are proud of our faculty and proud of their scholarly productivity. HOFSTRA COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES (HCLAS) is organized into four divisions the Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Interdisciplinary Programs. All Hofstra students choose from a variety of liberal arts core classes, each designed to complement their program of study. Students may also choose to add a minor or a second major. Hofstra University Honors College (HUHC), through an innovative curriculum in the liberal arts that is compatible with all majors, serves students who perform at the highest academic level in all undergraduate programs. The FRANK G. ZARB SCHOOL OF BUSINESS is one of only 10 percent of business schools in the United States with dual accreditation for its programs in business and accounting from AACSB International The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Students gain hands-on experience at the Martin B. Greenberg Trading Room, where they have access to the same data, analytics and software used by finance professionals. The SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION boasts one of the largest noncommercial broadcast studios in the northeastern United States, as well as the Hofstra NewsHub, our converged newsroom and multimedia classroom. WRHU-88.7 FM (Radio Hofstra University) was the first college radio station in the United States to broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio. Learn more at hofstra.edu/communication. The SCHOOL OF EDUCATION emphasizes programs for students whose goals include teaching, administrative policy, and fitness training. This school utilizes Hagedorn Hall, one of the most technologically advanced classroom buildings in the United States, housing a distance learning lab, flexible classroom spaces, a dedicated advisement office, and a doctoral dissertation study room. Housing
Housing is available for international students. Hofstra has 37 residence halls, featuring many different living arrangements. Twelve-month housing is available for students who will stay in the United states during the semester breaks. Admission
Hofstra University is a selective institution. However, there is no minimum score or grade point average to be considered for admission. Hofstras admission committee reviews applications individually and places additional emphasis on the applicants essay and letters of recommendation.

What financial aid might international students receive?

International students are eligible for academic merit scholarships. Please note that an SAT or ACT score must be received to be considered for an academic scholarship. Need-based aid is not available for international students.

To demonstrate English proficiency, the sAT, ACT, TOEFL or IELTs may be submitted. The sAT or ACT are not required for admission, but must be submitted to be considered for an academic scholarship. Native speakers of English must submit the sAT or ACT. our fall 2012 applicants scores reflected the following:

Please note that Hofstra awards credit for A-level, Abitur, the IB Diploma, AP credits, etc. Advanced standing and collegiate-level credits may be awarded based on students performance on these exams and certain other upper-secondary school certificates. students should send score reports to the Office of Admission for evaluation. An official evaluation of a students secondary record is often helpful in this process and can be provided by organizations such as World Education services (WEs, wes.org).

Hofstras campus is located in Hempstead, New York, in a suburban neighborhood. On a clear day, you can see the New York City skyline from the top floor of our library. The climate of Long Island is affected by four seasonal changes. The temperature varies from a high of 32 degrees Celsius during July and August to a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius in January and February. Take a virtual tour or schedule a campus visit at hofstra.edu/visit. We recommend campus visits during the september or January semesters so that you may experience our campus while classes are in session. Hofstra accepts international applications through our website hofstra.edu or through the Common Application (commonapp.org). If using the Common Application, students must also submit Hofstras Common Application supplement. The following checklist will help ensure that all the necessary items are completed and/or submitted: Completed application. Nonrefundable application fee. Transcripts (in English) for all secondary and postsecondary course work. sAT, ACT, TOEFL or IELTs score report (one required; multiple tests encouraged).
