Pepper is the earliest of the spices that are known to the world today.

Pepper is also and rightly known as the 'king of spices as its usage makes it the most essential spice in the world. because its usage round the world is more than any of the spices present. It is also the oldest one. The production of pepper is dependent upon the hot and moist weather conditions and the pepper crop needs these sorts of conditions to prosper. That is why it is produced in countries having this type of climate. The major pepper exporting countries are India, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. Vietnam is the world largest producer of Pepper sharing 30% or 137.2 tonnes followed by Indonesia (18%), Brazil (15%) and India (11%). India was the largest producer of Pepper but now India stands at 4th position acquiring 11% share with 50 thousand tonnes of production with a yield of approx 200 Kg/Ha.
