Product Description
System Description: The DIGI-KLIP DRP series of dual readout, free-standing card edge connectors represents a major advancement in packaging technology for the reliable mating of printed circuit boards. At the heart of the DRP design is Components Corporation's proven wire form contact principle, a patented contact system successfully applied in single readout formats since 1962. Contact Principle: The premise is simple: to provide long term and reliable contact in demanding applications, a card edge contact must be a good spring. The connector must exhibit no reduction in pressure over years of mated service, and it must provide a "wiping action." The DRP series contact, successor to the patented single readout DIGI-KLIP, is manufactured from the highest grade beryllium copper alloy wire which is heat treated for optimum spring temper after forming. Because of this design and process, the resulting contact provides a true wiping action point contact with exceptionally high unit force. This allows for a "gas tight" mating junction, eliminating the need for precious metal plating in most applications. Consistent contact normal forces are insured, regardless of time or multiple insertion/withdrawal cycles.

Components Corporation | ComponentsCorp.com

1-800-227-2901

www.acfcom.com

Design Flexibility: The DRP series is supplied in disposable, molded carrier strips to facilitate mounting and positioning during soldering operations. Any combination of contact pairs may be applied in .100", .150" or .156" increments; row spacing grid is the popular .200" for all types. Contact pair deletions may be specified without cost premium. The carrier strips are removed after soldering and discarded or returned for credit and re-use. Space Savings: The DRP presents the lowest profile of any card edge connector system available today. Total slot depth is .260" and module board "fingers" may be as short as .130". Overall contact pair width is a mere .270" and .350" with carrier in place. Cost Savings: Since the DIGI-KLIP design is made from a wire form, there is virtually no scrap material reflected in the cost of the contact. The exclusive, "gas tight" point contact eliminates the need for precious metal plating on the connector and the circuit board tab. The versatility of the DRP carrier strip mounting system, with its unlimited combination of contact pairs, allows the designer the flexibility to apply only the exact number of terminations necessary; there is no need to specify a "standard" contact configuration which often results in unused termination positions. Industry Compatibility: The DIGI-KLIP DRP series conforms to the popular .200" row spacing grid. This standardization allows the designer the confidence to apply the unique advantages of the DRP series without the concern over sole sourcing, and many existing products may be re-designed to incorporate this superior contact system with minimal re-tooling. Certificate of Compliance with Directive 2002/95/EC RoHS and REACH Regulations EC 1907/2006 This is to certify that Components Corporation designs, manufactures and supplies products to our customers that are in compliance with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and REACH Regulations EC 1907/2006. DIGI-KLIP High Performance Data Contacts and Technical Specifications

The patented DIGI-KLIP, free-standing card edge interconnect system is based upon a unique contact principle, distinctive from traditional methods of connector fabrication. The DIGI-KLIP contact is formed from soft beryllium copper alloy wire and heat treated after forming, while typical card edge contacts are progressive die stamped from mill-hardened strip stock.

Significant advantages in contact structure and performance result from this manufacturing process. Post forming heat treatment utilizes the full potential of the beryllium copper alloy in optimizing the spring temper of the contact and enhancing its ability to withstand stress relaxation. Due to the forming of the contact profile from soft material, relatively small bend radii may be employed while alloying for a very compact overall design which provides space savings and an extremely short signal path. Additionally, the DIGI-KLIP contact point provides a "ball" type footprint. This feature insures an extremely high unit pressure at the mating junction which guarantees a "gas tight" interconnect while offering a true "wiping action" contact. This capability is of particular advantage in today's high speed, low level switching environments. In these critical applications, the most minute presence of surface oxides, film or contamination can result in loss of signal or contact disruption.

Contact Style Choices

All DIGI-KLIP free-standing card edge contacts are designed for use in "board-to-board" interconnect applications. There are four series from which to choose, and all of them are provided pre-loaded on disposable injection molded carrier strips for mass mounting,

Performance Specifications for High-Speed Applications

The following parameters are expressed for the SRP series DIGI-KLIP contact as a typical example of the performance of these products in high speed digital switching environments.

Components Corporation | ComponentsCorp.com

1-800-227-2901 www.acfcom.com

Hertzian Stress
This calculation, expressed in thousands of pounds per square inch, has come to be recognized as a more valid predictor of reliability than normal force for demanding interconnect applications. Hertzian stress is a formula which incorporates normal force with such factors as actual contact surface area, mating component geometries and the modulus of elasticity of surface finishes. A minimum Hertzian stress value of 250 Kpsi has been established for prediction of long term reliability in a single contact design.

Performance Values Comparison

Three significant measurements can strongly affect the performance of an interconnect system in today's high speed/low level switching applications. These are: adjacent contact capacitance, inductance and propagation delay (contact rise time). The chart depicted below shows a comparison of these values between an SRP series contact and several other popular card edge contact profiles.

Product Description
The TP-102 series of printed circuit mounted, test point jumpers provides a significantly lower cost and superior function to that of conventional "turret" type terminals in board level, "trouble shooting" applications. With only two part number types, the TP-102 series covers the complete range of hole diameters most commonly employed for "turret" terminals; the need for costly re-design of circuit board art work is eliminated. Spring tempered, flared leads allow sufficient tension positioning in the hole during wave soldering, thereby eliminating the costly staking or secondary soldering operations normally encountered with "turret" terminals. The unique loop profile of the TP-102 series offers a superior and positive anchor for commonly used, spring loaded test probes and clips. The economies and single hole mounting requirement of this design permit greater numbers of test point locations in p.c. board applications at much less expense than previously used "turret" terminals. The TP-102 series devices are formed from phosphor bronze alloy wire. Due to the spring temper and flared lead design, only two styles are necessary to cover mounting hole diameters from .067" to .078" and .112" to .116". Product Description
How the fabricators of SMT printed wiring boards may take advantage of the convenience of field testing with the unique loop design of Components Corporation's TP-107 series of surface mounted, printed circuit test points. The profile of the TP-107 readily accepts most commercially available spring clips and probes while providing a positive and secure anchor to the SMT board. Since a test point is subject to mechanical stress, the strength of its bonding, particularly on a surface mount design, is crucial. The TP-107 achieves this through a unique forming process which doubles the surface area of the test points mounting. This is accomplished by forming the flat wire design in a spiral wrap on the mounting base resulting in an adhesion to the solder pad which requires in excess of 18 pounds of force to dislodge the test point from its solder pad. TP-107 surface mount test points are available in two formats: bulk packaged and tape-and-reel configuration. The taped version is fully compatible with ANSI/EIA-481 standards. To insure a smooth flow to the solder pad, the TP-107 test point is plated with .0001 minimum matte tin finish over .0001 nickel underplate. For increased reliability and safety, the TP-107 is now available in silver-plated and matte tin finish. The product is manufactured using Components Corporation's proprietary technology, assuring the highest possible performance. The TP-107 is formed from phosphor bronze flat alloy wire which is spring tempered or from copper alloy wire. Recommended mounting pad dimensions are 0.185" x 0.135".
