Title: Creating a Math Video Created by: Dustin Kisner Date: 6/26/12 Course: Highschool Math Objective:Students will

be able to create a video using technology, and share it with the instructor. The Video will be on a Math concept that they will have covered in class beforehand. Students will collaborate to complete the project. Time Line:This is a project that you need to allow students at least 2 weeks to complete because of the collaboration aspect. Materials:Computer/Laptop, access to the internet, some type of technology that will allow the student to create a video such as a iphone, ipad, video camera,...etc. Lesson Activities:See next page for instructions for the assignment. The below pages are also what will be handed out for the students, and placed online for them to view.

Creating a Math Video


For this assignment you will be working in a group and creating an educational Math video. Group members are: Review some of the videos I have created and some of the videos online to get ideas on what you would like to do. Here are two links where you may find Math videos. Directions for this assignment Concept/Topic: Find a section in your book that you would like to create a video on. What is the Chapter, section, and title of the section?

What concept in Math will you be creating a video on? Examples: You need to come up with 3-5 examples of problems you will complete on your video. You can choose problems right out of the book, if you would like. These are examples to help students with their homework and better understand the concept. What problems will you be covering, list them below? You dont need to work them out on this page I just need the problems, you will be working them out on the video. If you chose the problems out of the book what is the page and number(s)?

Picture/Object: You need to include a picture or real life object related to the concept you are discussing. As a group find/create a picture or object for your video. What did you decide upon?

You now need to decide on how you will record your video. Will you use a phone, video camera, ipad, .etc.

What will you use to record your video and who has/owns the object?

Sharing your video: After you have created your video you need to upload it online so you can share it with your teacher. Here are some of the online places you can upload your video to but are not limited to. Youtube.com vimeo.com Where online will you be uploading your video? If you dont want to upload your video to the internet you can email me the video.

Recording your video: You will need in your video Introduction: Introduce the concept/topic you will be discussing. What is the goal/objective you are trying to get across for your viewers. Define any vocabulary that you will be talking about assume the person watching does not know the concept/topic you are talking about. Explain the concept or topic you chose. You need to explain it as if you were teaching the class, and the students need to be able to complete the homework after your lecture. Each group member needs to introduce themselves, this could be as simple as saying, hello my name is..... Each group member needs to take part in the video. You can break this up anyway you wish, as long as each member contributes. Must cover 3-5 problems/examples to help the viewer understand what you are discussing. Must have a picture/object you chose as a group to be in your video.

Rubric (10 pts) Turned in on time (5 pts) Answered the questions on the worksheet appropriately. (15 pts) Introduction: Introduce the concept/topic you will be discussing.
