UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS ************************************ NOTE: Please be aware that an update in some circumstance may require approximately ten minutes to complete. UPGRADING THE NEW FIRMWARE TO A SINGLE DEVICE ------------------------------------------------You can send an .RFU update to a device at any time; the device will wait for all I/O channels to become idle before cycling power.

NOTE: If the firmware update involves a change in the format of NVRAM, the NVRAM settings will be lost and must be set again by the customer. The elapsed time for an update depends on the I/O transfer time as well as the time that it takes for the printer to reinitialize. The I/O transfer time will depend on a number of things including the speed of the host computer sending the update and the I/O method (parallel, or network). The re-initialization time will depend on the specific hardware configuration of the printer, such as the number of EIO devices installed, the presence of external paper handling devices, and the amount of memory installed. Finally, any print jobs ahead of the .RFU job in the queue will be printed before the .RFU update is processed. NOTE: The device will automatically restart after processing the update. USING THE EMBEDDED WEB SERVER (EWS): ------------------------------------The EWS can be used in the majority of environments to easily update the firmware on most current devices. Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by updating your printer's firmware with revision "20040708 03.783.1": * Corrections have been made to address the following errors: 49.FF04 49.4C27 Occurs when using DSS software and changing the IP Address. 49.4C06 Occurs when storing large number (60+) jobs. 49.XXXX When printing specific file in PostScript. 49.XXXX When printing some specific PDF files. 49.4C01 With a list of 100 Speed Dials, each with long numbers. 49.4C02 When using UCS-2 Symbol set and UTF8 font. 49.4C02 When using DSS software, adding a second mfp to the DSS service. 49.4C02 If the RESET button is pressed after the screen displays "Add Another Number to the Speed dial?" analog fax listing. 49.4C27 In certain situations when you change the IP Address and then navigate the Menus. 30.1.25 In specific situations, when using the DSS Software and a paper jam occurs. * Formatting corrections to the Usage Page.

* Corrections made for E-Mail Gateway problems (SMTP and LDAP): Fixed an issue where Dynamic LDAP Addressing would time out when receiving unsorted data from a directory server. Fixed an issue where in some unique environments, when configured for a SendMail SMTP server, the MFP would continuously resend the e-mail, and recipients would receive multiple copies of the email. Fixed an issue where LDAP Advanced settings were not retained during a power-cycle. Fixed an issue where custom send options "All Send Options, E-Mail Only, and Fax Only" were only localized in the languages; English, Czech, Hungarian, and Polish. Fixed an issue where an un-configured SMTP gateway would result in the MFP eventually timing out, as it tries to find the non-existent SMTP gateway. Fixed an issue where the local address book keys needed two be pressed twice at the add new entry screen. Fixed an issue where an invalid e-mail address continues to appear in the local address book. An invalid e-mail address is one that is not in a standard e-mail format, such as " X@ ". Fixed an issue where the default e-mail type would not return back to PDF after factory restore settings. Fixed an issue where in some unique network environments, the MFP would send multiple copies of the same e-mail. Fixed an issue where long e-mail addresses were not being stored properly in the address book. Added a feature where the sender of an e-mail is automatically copied on all emails. This can only be configured by sending a specific configuration file to the MFP. The configuration file must be obtained by contacting HP support. More robustness added to LDAP search. When multiple, similar, names are displayed so that we can now access additional information to more clearly identify the intended recipient of the e-mail. The display message "Address is not is not in a recognized e-mail format. Use it anyway?" continues to be displayed even if you wish to use a non-standard address from the Local Address Book. When the file size limitation is set, in the situation of sending a large e-mail attachment wherein the large was broken up into smaller more manageable files, it was possible for the mfp to get into the loop of sending files forever. This abnormality was corrected. This firmware provides the ability to configure the

SMTP,LDAP and Time Server hostnames via the Embedded Web Server. * Several localization and symbol set issues were corrected: "euro" glyph Corrections in Simplified Chinese Multi-language characters in AutoStore displayed on mfp Translation of Danish "Toner Out and other strings Miscellaneous multi-language text strings Localized media sizes in French Some Latin2 characters in the UTF8 symbol set * Several PostScript and PCL5 printing problems have been corrected: Slow printing to specific PowerPoint files. Programmatically made Bold text to PostScript files. Incorrect rotation when PCL duplex command precedes pre-punched media commands. Printing of Black squares verses gray square patterns. Elimination of specific dot patterns in the page background data. Routines have been added to the firmware which prevent the the need for Disk Initialization to recover from catastrophic failures (e.g., in situations where we lost the network in the middle of a digital sending job). Routines have been incorporated into the firmware to help the mfp recovery in the unlikely event of a cluster server failure. Improvements have been made to the firmware to improve the performance of the product using the Secure Disk Erase product feature. Improvements have been made to the product using the Job Mode product feature (e.g., refreshing scaling percentages, and clearing paper size screens after periods of inactivity.)

Analog Fax Accessory firmware "B1.12" provides the following changes: * * When a print menu map is printed to A4 size paper, the fax send option was missing. When a corrupted bit sequence is found in fax data, it resulted in an improper number of TIFF lines. This resulted in a T-30 protocol 255 error. When a sending fax did not receive back a CFR or MCF confirmation, it would result in a T-30 protocol 233 error. A new option to enable E233 has been added within the service mode - special settings of the fax menu. Turning this option "on", allows the fix for the T-30 protocol 233 error to take effect. When a dialing prefix is enabled within the fax number entry screen, the fax notification didn't get the top line or

* *

highlighted box drawn correctly. * When the fax delivery is set to deliver via e-mail, their were some missing characters if the German or Czech languages were used. When the fax speed dial option is selected, the fax and Reset/Continue screens overlapped with each other. Fixed an issue where the fax was printing blank pages.

Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by updating your printer's firmware with revision "20031125 03.779.0": NOTE In addition to upgrading your mfp firmware, this firmware bundle also updates the Analog Fax Accessory firmware to version "B1.12". The Copy Processor Board (CPB) firmware did not change with this firmware bundle. Also corrected with this version of firmware were many issues regarding the interaction between the Digital Sending Software products and the hp 4100mfp product. * The Czech, Polish and Hungarian languages are now supported with the 4100/4101mfp products with this revision of firmware. These languages are also supported with the Analog Fax accessory product as well as the Digital Sending Services Software packages. * Secure file disk erase is now available with this revision of firmware. Customers may choose between three levels of secure disk erase with this firmware: Non-Secure Fast Erase (default), Secure Fast Erase (all copy, send and print data is over written) and Secure Sanitize Erase (all data is over written repeatedly with random data and verified); this method is fully compliant to Department of Defense standards 5220-22M. This functionality is enabled through hp Web JetAdmin software. Please ensure that your Web JetAdmin is updated with the latest updates (plug-ins). * Image quality for digitally sent jobs has been significantly enhanced in this version of firmware. All file formats used in digital sending have been sharpened to provide additional compatibility with OCR applications. In addition, when Describe Original Page Content is set to Text on the control panel of the MFP, the PDF file format has been changed from 300ppi 1bpp to 600ppi 1bpp. * Previously, if paper were loaded into the ADF assembly, the hp 4100mfp would not go into PowerSave mode. This issue has been corrected in this revision of firmware. * Several Toner Alert messages were corrected when communicating to the hp 4100mfp through the Embedded Web Server. * This revision of firmware allows you to erase an erase a single address from the Local Address Book. With the prior versions of firmware you had to erase the entire Local Address Book to remove

a name. * Some PCL XL errors after faxing have been eliminated. * TIFF images have been darkened. * 49.xxxx errors have been eliminated when printing a fax report while simultaneously performing a speed dial; and when performing AutoStore Authentication and selecting the products Send Options. * An extended blank screen interval at the hp 4100mfp's Control Panel of the has been eliminated while performing a large speed dial lists using the Analog Fax Accessory. * Several Control Panel use abilities issues have been addressed. * Several authentication issues have been addressed. * The digital sending configuration "applet", accessed form the Embedded Web Server browser window, will download and install the 1.4.1 version of the JavaTM Runtime Environment (JRE) instead of the 1.3.1 version. You may uninstall the 1.3.1 version if no other applications are using it. This change was made to be compatible with HP Web JetAdmin. Analog Fax Accessory (Q1314A) Firmware Revision "B1.12" ----------------------------------------------------------The following issues have been addressed: * "Analog Fax Unit did not dial the prefix when configured." If you set the Dial Prefix it would not work properly. * "AP Languages added to fax unit" This firmware revision will add support for Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. These countries will use the US English settings. China and India will also be included, but will be localized. * "Analog Fax Unit will go into "idle" state when receiving a fax." Sometimes the analog fax would go into a idle state when receiving faxes. This caused MFP to delete TIFF files; in this state the analog fax could not send or receive. * "Customer receives error 256 when ECM is enabled." When the ECM (Error Correction Mode) is enabled if a fax sends a partially corrupt fax file, the analog fax unit will request the data to be sent back. If the sending fax did not resend, the Analog fax would error out with an error 256. * "No Fax Detected Issue." Timing changes were implemented to address this issue. * "Receiving fax machine did not reply with a CFR." The receiving fax must send a CFR command for our fax appliance to function properly. * "Unable to send a fax when a receiving error occurs." When a receiving error occurs there are times when you can no longer send. This is due to multiple writing of error logs.

* "Fix for the time to wait for incoming data is expired during the receiving page data." Countermeasure for Error 251 during fax receiving this error occurs when the time to wait for incoming data is expired during the receiving page data. The fix was implemented if time out happens, The Analog Fax Unit will return to phase B and require re-transmitting page data that the Analog Fax Unit doesn't receive. * "Fix for when carrier on line was lost during receiving page data." Countermeasure for Error 233 during fax receiving with NO-ECM mode this error occurs when carrier on line was lost during receiving page data. The fix was implemented that the Analog Fax Unit will return to phase B and request re-transmitting page data that was lost. * "Fix for 'no fax detected'#2." When the Analog Fax Unit rejected and requested re-trying TCF packet because of T.30 violation on sender side. TCF includes consequent "0" bit data between 1.35 second and 1.65 second to verify line quality. * "Fix for when the Analog Fax Unit did not read/understand the log file correctly." Countermeasure for Error 254. This error occurs when the Analog Fax Unit did not read/understand log file correctly. It happens when the Analog Fax Unit re-starts its program from beginning while receiving a fax. After re-starting, the Analog Fax Unit did not realize this was log file. This situation is similar to the case when power line was off during receiving. The cause of re-start was the Analog Fax Unit received an unexpected message when the Analog Fax Unit expected Post message with ECM mode. * "Fix for when sending faxes to certain Panasonic fax machines." Fix for Error 137 occurring when sending faxes to certain Panasonic fax machines. The Panasonic fax machines did not recognize DCS with options. Changes were made to disable any options if the receiving fax machines did not have ECM, MMR, or 300x300 capabilities. * "Fix for the Analog Fax Unit terminated encoding the outgoing tiff file in the middle of the job." Fix for Error 153 and 160. In some cases, the Analog Fax Unit terminated encoding the outgoing tiff file, which MFP creates, in the middle of the job. Changes were made in the code not to terminate for any reason. This occurred only when the resolution was set to Standard (200x100). The cause for 153 and 160 is the same. Error 153 occurs when ECM is on, and 160 when ECM is off. * "Changes in displaying error messages from generic No Fax Detected." We have new error codes to accommodate for "No Fax Detected". * "Reports do not go to the same bin designated for fax output." When reports print they print to the default bin which the printer is configured. There is now a separate choice to choose where the fax output should be delivered. Fax reports will also be delivered to this destination.

* "Added Czech, Polish and Hungarian languages to the Analog Fax Unit." New languages now supported. * "Polish strings for the Analog Fax Unit are not present." When the MFP is set to the Polish language the Fax menu is not in Polish. It will remain in the language that was previously chosen. * "Fix for Error 137." Error 137 occurred when sending faxes to specific number. When the Analog Fax Unit attempts to send a fax at Standard (200x200) resolution, the called station indicates that its minimum scan time per lien is 20 ms. However, the Analog Fax Unit was returning 10 ms value, resulting in disconnection. A fix was implemented (and verified) to return the same minimum scan time as indicated by the called station, so that the Analog Fax Unit proceeds to transmit the page data after the negotiation. * "Fix for Error 259 (No Fax Detected #3)." A fix was implemented so that, if the disruption in communication occurs, the Analog Fax Unit will determine that this is due to poor line quality. Subsequently, the Analog Fax Unit will send Failure to Train (FTT), requesting the calling fax to train down to lower speed, thus allowing easier connection even in poor line quality. * "Timing Adjustment." Changed resending interval of Post-Message (MPS, EOP) to 3 seconds (as recommended) When the Analog Fax Unit is sending a fax, if the called station is not able to receive a Post-Message for any reason, the called station cannot send the subsequent reply. * "No Carrier" with Remote commands If TSI." (Transmitting Subscriber Identification) and DCS (Digital Command Signal) are not received after Pre-Message (NSF/CSI/DIS) with designated retry counts, the Analog Fax Unit determined that there is no carrier. However, there were several instances where "No Carrier" occurred even though the Analog Fax Unit received Remote commands from the calling station. We designated this symptom as Error 262. "No Carrier" will represent the case where there are no Remote commands at all. * "Six items from Hungarian menu which were missing double-acute symbol." * "Changed the PCL data header of reports to be printed in Latin-2 when MFP is printing in Latin-2 mode." (originally using Roman-8). * "Corrected misspelling in ACTIVITY LOG in Fax menu. (Czech)" * "Italy is misspelled on fax accessory page, this has been corrected." * "139, which occurs when the sender returns RTN (Retrain Negative) and PIN (Procedure Interrupt Negative) while the Analog Fax Unit is attempting to send fax." * "150, which occurs to a subsequent fax when the sender returns RTP (Retrain Positive) during previous fax session while the Analog Fax Unit is attempting to send fax."

* "Identifying a fax ID when the sender returns NSF (Non-Standard Facilities)." When the Analog Fax Unit is the receiver, sometimes the sender transmits NSF (an optional signal to identify proprietary device-specific capabilities that are not covered by the Series T Recommendations), which subsequently causes Error 262 and 259. The previous version only attempted to receive NSF (the first signal in Phase B) before indicating an error, thus, we were unable to identify the sender's fax ID. This firmware version will wait until the Analog Fax Unit receives CSI (Called Subscriber Information) and DIS (Digital Identification Signal), so that we can obtain the sender's fax ID. * "Some fax machines have compatibility issues receiving NSF signal. NSF is no longer transmitted during fax sessions." * "Displaying firmware version in T30 report" For debug purpose, the version number and data stamp is now displayed under "Details" for OFFHOOK." * "Speed Dial with 100 numbers only show 99, this has been corrected" * "PCL XL error after receiving fax." This fix has been implemented if a higher tray than what is on the device has been chose. If this happens the default tray will be used instead. * "For Analog Fax a Per-Job Print Notification and a Fax Call Report both print out - only one should print, this has now been corrected." * "Unable to select a default setting for Per-Job Notification with Analog Fax." The required menu option has been provided to set the default fax notification option for embedded fax. * "Fax Call Report prints regardless of Per-Job Notification setting with Analog Fax." The call report only depends on the "fax call report" settings. It will not be printed only if the user selects the option "Never" for the fax call report. In this case, the print option could safely be removed from the per job notification options for the analog fax. * "155 when sending fax with ECM on." Fix for Error 155 when sending fax with ECM on, if there is no reply to the post message (PPS-MPS, PPS-EOP) from a receiving fax, the Analog Fax Unit normally resends three times. In some cases, DCN was sent without these retries. A fix was implemented to correct this behavior. * "When printing T.30 report, there were few instances where the contents of the report was from other Job ID." For example, MFP is printing T.30 report of Job #1, but the contents of protocol trace is from Job #2. This behavior has been corrected.

******************************************************************** HP DSS Workflow & HP Autostore -----------------------------------------------------------------------If an administrator has 03.783.1 firmware loaded on the MFP, and has enabled the password to access the EWS, HP AutoStore and HP DSS Workflow are not yet compatible with this feature. HP has provided enhanced security for MFP firmware by blocking un-authenticated communication with the MFP when the EWS password has been configured. A side effect of fixing this security issue is that all HTTP requests to the device must now provide the correct HTTP authentication credentials in order to gain access to resources on the MFP s EWS. This password is the same as the password that is configured in the EWS and entered by the user when accessing protected pages. The HTTP protocol used to perform Autostore menu updates does not provide a password. Autostore currently does not store the device's password. ******************************************************************** Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by updating your printer's firmware with revision "200200804 03.757.0" * When using Alt + 2 on the keyboard a tilde now shows in the User Interface. * Entering an incorrect pin for the Services Menu may have caused the Control Panel to hang. This has been corrected. * New Auto Cleaning Page interval (500 pages) has been added as an auto cleaning page interval menu item. * Corrected 49.4C02 errors when a null entry was entered in the Digital Sending "To" Address field. * Blank Page Suppression is now integrated into the product. * Find Send Gateways did not always report it had actually discovered an SMTP gateway. This has now been corrected. * A 49.4c02 or 49.4c06 error was incorrectly displayed when the mpf was powered up when scanner lock was in the locked position. * Possible timeout problems connecting to LDAP/SMTP Gateways using Lotus Domino has now been corrected. * ALT chars entered in the Digital Send Applet did not show up correct at the MFP. This has been corrected. * An enhancement was added to allow the setting of A4 Override to be controlled with PJL. The new command is "OVERRIDEA4WITHLETTER". * Possible 49.2601 errors while printing a .pdf file with postscript driver have been corrected. * Added support for the apostrophe character "'" in the SMTP address.

* Improvements to Dynamic LDAP Addressing feature functionality. * Some User Interface localized message translations have been corrected. * Configuration Page "Page Count" accuracy improvements have been made with this revision of firmware. * HP-GL/2 gray scale print improvements have been made. * Resolved issues where the Send-to-Email option or the Send-toFax options were intermittently dropped from the Send Options. * Resolved the issue where Clearing the Address Book, in the Digital Send Applet, also inadvertently cleared the Speed Dial list. * Corrected digital send failures if Cluster Server fails or if the Digital Send Software is restarted while MFP is sending an image. Analog Fax Accessory (Q1314A) Firmware Revision "C1.09" ----------------------------------------------------------* Thumbnail feature (added "INCLUDE FIRST PAGE" in the reports menu) Now the user can add a First Page Report that will show the 1st page of the faxed document. This can be accessed through the REPORTS menu under the FAX section on the control panel, or through the EWS (Embedded Web Server). * Changed the menu option in the EWS from just "YES" to "YES/NO" There were many options in the EWS that had just YES listed as the response. This was changed to accommodate YES/NO. * Upon finding Activity Log files that are created prior to version 1.03, this firmware will automatically reformat (the fix for uneven activity log display). Customers saw many strange error codes (i.e. Error -654789099) obviously there is no error code for this. * Fix for the missing TIFF file issue TIFF files would remain in the FAX IN directory and not print out properly. **NOTE**: When applying this firmware upgrade, any files currently on the hard drive will print immediately. * Fix for the problem where No Fax Detected error occurs in 5 seconds. There were countermeasures added to remedy this issue that included reducing delays in training time. When a sending fax sends to the HP Analog Fax Unit, the two units must train with each other to determine the transfer speed. After the transfer speed has been agreed upon the HP Analog Fax Unit sends an expected delay to the sending machine. The average expected delay is 70 milliseconds +/-25 milliseconds. The HP Analog Fax Unit delay was set to 200 milliseconds. HP lowered the delay time to be within the above listed range. * Fix for the problem where No Fax Detected error occurs when the sender transmits EOM (End of Message) command inserted a delay before

going into Page Data receive mode. There were countermeasures put in place for this issue whereas the EOM (End of Message) was not correctly being detected and would not properly print the page. * Changed the OFF timing for calling tone from 1.0 second to 0.6 second, when COUNTRY CODE is set to France. An issue arose where the ring silence between rings was set so fast that the Analog Fax would not answer. Xircom previously had the default setting to .06 seconds needed for silence between rings. HP had the default setting at 1.0 seconds. HP changed the default setting back to .06 seconds. * MFP will not recognize Analog Fax unit for approximately 5 minutes if LAN cable is disconnected. If the printer does not have the LAN cable connected it can take some time to recognize the Analog Fax Unit. * E-mail sent to admin after every fax. In some cases it was noticed that the default administrator would receive confirmation pages after every sent fax. * White lines displayed when sent in "photo mode". While using the Photo Mode, there were instances where white lines may appear. * Function for changing output bin now works correctly. This function did not work properly, now a user can select which bin the output will go to. **NOTE**: Reports will still print to the default printer bin. * After the fax number has been entered and the user does not log out, the previous number entered will not be listed. With this firmware, the cache of numbers previously entered will be cleared whether the user logs out or not. ********************************************************************** Previous firmware improvements: Firmware 20030322 03.721.0: This firmware bundle also updated the Analog Fax Accessory firmware to version "01.17" and the Copy Processor Board (CPB) firmware to version "4.15". * Control Panel messaging has changed to provide feedback to the User if paper is present in the Automatic Document Feeder. The message "Document Feeder Loader" will be displayed and the Control Panel Data LED will be illuminated when paper is present in the ADF. * For copying documents, the adjustment range from "light and dark" has been increased. * Corrections have been made to ensure the error messages listed via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) matches those from the printer's Event Log page. * Large print jobs, stored on the product's hard disk drive, may now be deleted without causing undo delays at the product's Control Panel.

* The Control Panel messaging at the completion of a digital send job was confusing (e.g., "Number of seconds until the Machine Resets" - LOGOFF/RESET). This messaging will now be made more intuitive. * Improvements have been made to the SMTP (e-mail) protocol. The mfp will now be able to respond to mult-line responses from an SMTP server. * In Job Mode operations, paper size "A5" has been included in the options. Analog Fax Accessory firmware improvements (01.17): * Fax quality improvements are included with this revision of firmware. * The default error code of "ff ff ff ff" on the Fax Accessory page (page 3 of the Print Configuration pages) was eliminated to avoid confusion. * If a customer only wishes to use the 4100mfp as a fax device (e.g., disable the embedded digital sending feature of the product), then "Fax" would appear as a top level menu item. Normally with both features enabled (Fax and digital sending), the Fax selection appears as a second level menu item under the first level menu "Send Options". Disabling digital sending requires configuration of the mfp via the Embedded Web Server, please refer to the Disabling Digital Sending function white paper on www.hp.com. * Previously if fax jobs were queued up (e.g., stored on the mfp's hard disk drive) waiting to be printed and the printer inadvertently inadvertently lost power (e.g, power was interrupted or someone inadvertently power-cycled the mfp), the fax jobs would not automatically resume printing after power was returned. Queued jobs now automatically print after power has been restored (e.g., after the printer regains the READY status). * With the previous version of the firmware you could not use the asterisk "*" symbol in while dialing. The "*" is now available for use while dialing. * With the previous version of firmware, if "PRINT REPORT" under FAX CALL REPORTS in the Configure Device parameters, an error page would be printed if a busy signal was encountered. Additionally an error page would be printed each time a busy signal was encountered. This has been corrected. * In the product's CONFIGURE DEVICE menu items, the "Fax Output Tray" parameter range has been change to say the bins 0 - 9 are available. Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by

updating your printer's firmware with revision "20021209 03.616.0 * Scan image quality improvements were made with this release of firmware eliminating print artifacts such as the filling-in of the interior spaces of alpha-numeric characters (such as the "8", "d", "o" characters etc...). Previous to this version of firmware, you were required to change the CONTENT to "PHOTO" to eliminated these artifacts. These artifacts are now completely eliminated with all CONTENT modes of operation. * Digital Sending processing times have been significantly been improved with this version of the firmware. * Menu improvements have been incorporated to eliminate the possibility of inadvertently deleting a Stored Job. Verification to delete a job will now be requested. * This version of firmware retains the scan settings (Content=Mixed, Color=Color, File=PDF) when the Digital Sender Software 3.0 is installed. With prior versions of firmware, the Color setting was inadvertently set to B/W (Black and White) after the software was installed and a printer power cycle was performed.

Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by updating your printer's firmware with revision "20020731 03.528.0" * This revision of firmware enables the capability of the Digital Sending Software (DSS) 3.0 products T1929AA and T1930AA the Fax Accessory product Q1314A. * Enhancement to the Job Mode feature. This feature allows you to scan multiple page sizes within a job with the following limitations. You can not switch between 2-sided and 1-sided originals within a job, in job mode. On n-up jobs, the output paper size will be the size of the first original. * The Find Send Gateways feature did not always display the SMTP and LDAP IP addresses when they were discovered. Gateways addresses are now displayed after they are found. * The Test Send Gateways feature did not provide feedback if a gateway address was invalid. The Test Send Gateways will now inform you if an address is invalid. * Some printed character artifacts (trailing "tails" to characters, "stair stepped" shaped characters, etc...) were eliminated due to improvement in raster de-compression routines with this version of firmware. * Several issues with the (EWS) Embedded Web Server Applet and

the HP 4100mfp have been resolved. These include the ability to clear the local address book on the printer, the ability to clear all settings when switching between Simple and Anonymous "Log-On" Method in the Addressing field of EWS, the ability for the mfp to retain different setting sent from the EWS to the mfp, and the ability for the EWS to clear e-mail addresses set up in the Alert field of the EWS. * Several localization issues were addressed with this firmware. All improvements from previous firmware updates (see following) will also be included with this revision of firmware. Previous firmware improvements. You may see improvements for the issues listed below by updating your printer's firmware with revision "20020731 03.220.0" * Scan time improvements. Scan speed have been improved to 24 ppm when the "Describe Originals" document settings have been set to "Content = Text" and under the E-Mail settings the color setting has been set to "Color = B/W". * Inconsistency in Addressing fields (To:, From:, CC:). Usability has been improved to make it more clear that you have added an address. * Spaces between email addresses cause LDAP AutoComplete to fail if a user attempts to add another recipient and places a space after the semicolon, the LDAP search does not occur. * If the Find Send Gateways fails to find a LDAP Address, the mfp recorded an address of 0.0.0.0 giving the user an incorrect impression that they have successfully found a valid LDAP address. A LDAP address of 0.0.0.0 will no longer be recorded as a valid address. * Many Non-English characters did not display properly in Address Lookups (for example the German umlaut was not being displayed properly). This has been corrected. * For those mfps' placed on a network where no Time Server was available, a Time Services link could be set through the Embedded Web Server (go to Time Services, on the Setting page of the Embedded Web Server). However this link was lost when the printer was powercycled and the mfp reverted to 01/01/1970 GMT time setting. With this revision of firmware this link is no longer lost during a printer power cycle. * When the LJ4100MFP is initially installed, the installer may receive the message "CHECK CABLES, CYCLE POWER" displayed on the control panel touch screen if the scanner lock is not unlocked. This message is confusing and has been replaced with "Check lock switch, cycle power" * When using the Find Send Gateways functionality a 49.4C02 or 49.4C06 error may be displayed on the control panel.

* Item selections such as "MIXED" which were set from inside the "DESCRIBE ORIGINALS" menu would not transfer to the MAIN menu screen for "DESCRIBE ORIGINALS" on the control panel touch screen. * The "HP Instant Support" button on the Embedded Web Server screens did not launch to the correct location. *************************************************************************** *************************************************************************** *********************************** IV.
