CASES AGAINST ARATI RAO

1. Ms. Ranjithas case, Bangalore - FINAL SUMMONS SENT TO ARATI RAO A private complaint has been filed in P.C.R. 183/2010 (C.C. No. 599/2011) on December 31, 2010 under Section 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, by Smt. Ranjitha against Lenin Karuppan (Accused No. 1), ARATI RAO and Advocate Sridhar along with witness statements. The complaint has been filed for crimes committed under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 384 (Extortion), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint details Lenins and Aratis videotaping without consent and morphing of the video tape and subsequent attempt to extort pecuniary benefits for himself and others using the morphed tapes. In this case, on the basis of the complaint and the sworn-in statements (statements on oath) by 3 witnesses in the case, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) took cognizance and registered as criminal case and issued summons on June 4, 2011 to all three accused for their personal appearance on August 1, 2011. Failing to appear before the court, Lenin was issued a non-bailable warrant while coconspirators Arathi Rao and advocate Sridhar were issued a second summons by the Honble Magistrate on 2 August 2011. Arathi Rao is a resident of Detroit, USA Persistently dishonouring the court orders and remaining in hiding, Lenin Karuppan faced a second non-bailable warrant while the third summons was issued to Arathi Rao and advocate Sridhar by the Honble Magistrate. Lenin Karuppan was finally arrested in another criminal case filed against him by Nithyanandas administrator by the Tamilnadu CID. He was finally brought to Karnataka and produced at the Ramnagara court through a body warrant issued by the Honble Magistrate of the Ramnagara court to the Tamilnadu police. Subsequently, Lenin Karuppan was accorded bail under stringent conditions by the Honble Magistrate in actress Ranjithas case. His next court appearance was due today (4 June 2012) has dishonoured yet another time. The Honble Magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) for non-appearance and a fourth summon to Aarti Rao and Sridhar for the same. The matter has been posted to 29 September 2012.

2. Sri Nithya Atmaprabhas case, Tamilnadu On 13 July 2012, Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda, a devotee of Paramahamsa Nithyananda, filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner of Chennai against Sun network COO Harish Chandra Saxena, his assistant Iyyappan, Nakkheeran Gopal and Kamraj, Lenin Karuppan, his brother Kumar and his co-conspirators AARTHI RAO and lawyer Sridhar, for charges of extortion, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and other sections in connection with the release of the morphed video attempting to link Paramahamsa Nithyananda with actress Ranjitha. Lenin Karuppan was arrested on 14th March this year by the CBCID Tamilnadu and remanded to 15 days of judicial custody on charges of extortion, blackmail and criminal conspiracy (Sections 341, 342,392, 323, 420 & 506 (ii) of IPC) in connection with the case filed against him by Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam administrator Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda related to the release of the morphed defamatory CD. He has been facing interrogation by the Tamilnadu CID since 26th March and has confessed to his crimes. (Case No. 782/2011). Lenin has been denied bail by the Honble Magistrate of the XIth Metropolitan Magistrate Court Saidapet, Chennai on 2nd April after due consideration of the serious nature of the offences committed. He is currently in Puzhal Prison in Chennai. The Tamilnadu CID has a red alert to Interpol to nab her.

3. Sri Prakash Mishra, Varanasi Case AARTI RAO is also a co-accused with Lenin Karuppan in a criminal case (Case No. 1450/2011) filed by Sri Prakash Mishra before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Varanasi in connection with the creation and distribution of the morphed video attempting to link Paramahamsa Nithyananda and actress Ranjitha. The section numbers are 292, 500, 509 of the C.P.C along with Section 4 of the Information and Technology Act and Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Womens Act 1986.
