Our initial meetings with Mr Davison on management culture have been positive. He certainly seems like someone who the trade unions can work with Obviously, the culture cant be changed overnight but we certainly are confident that with Tim Davison and proper trade union partnership support, we can tackle the culture thats previously existed in NHS Lothian.

Mr Davison said that NHS Lothian had to acknowledge it had a significant problem, and told NHS Lothian board members that their own behaviour would be the most important factor in solving it. Speaking at the NHS Lothian Board meeting after his appointment, Mr Davison said: Whatever people might feel about the circumstances that led to this report, my strong view is its very important that we work out how we move on from here because weve got some very important things to put right. People who have been here for a long time might want to reflect on the circumstances that led to this I think we need to acknowledge that weve got a significant problem and weve got to fix it NHS Lothian will take forward the reports recommendations, focusing on improving the Boards values, culture, and organisational development. UNISON supports the calls for modernisation of our public services, but we believe that public service workers must be part of the solution. Investment, leadership, good management, sustained work, training and consultation with staff and service users are all required to move forward.
