Thank you all so much for your support. The June conference in Dallas was my first International for IAIP and I had a wonderful time. Presidents Corner
First off, I would like to thank everyone that attended Associates Night last month. We had a great turn out as well as wonderful entertainment and great fellowship. Thank you especially to Katy and Jeanne for all the work you put into the festivities and thank you to Wanda for installing the officers. Also, to the board members and committee chairmen(s), thank you for your support. I know there are some doing duplicate duties, so I find it very important this year for us to put all of our heads together and help out where ever it is necessary. Please come to the July meeting with your thinking caps on, as we have a lot of planning to do, from membership, convention, safety, legislative, programs, education and the list goes on and on! We will need all the help we can get ladies! This year my theme is Excellence Without Excuses and to me is so appropriate as we have so little membership and so much to accomplish and I know with the help of everyone, we will do more than succeed, as we always do! Please remember to sell those tickets for the Summer Basket raffle as the basket is getting better and better. Thank you ladies for your donations and you have all been so generous. Who ever wins this basket, definitely will have something of worth for the summer! Have a great month and we will see you all on July 10th! Janet R. Safe Summer Surfing

Students who attend traditional-calendar schools are out for the summer. For some youngsters, summertime can mean spending more time online, playing games or using social networks like Facebook. Kids may also use the computer to stay connected with their classmates. Its a good time of year to remind young people, especially those who are relatively new to the online world, of some good safety tips:

Dont click on links you get in unsolicited emails. Dont click on links in an email from a friend if the message looks suspicious or if it isnt the kind of message you usually get from that person. Dont click online ads that offer deals that sound too good to be true. Use online privacy features on social networking sites. But remember that nothing you post online is truly private, no matter what your privacy settings are. Tell a trusted adult if anything happens online that makes you uncomfortable.

And parents, dont over-react if your child voluntarily tells you about something that happened to them online. Deal with the situation, but dont punish your child by taking away their online access. The most important thing is that they came to talk to you about it.
Visit our website for more information about keeping kids safe online. This message brought to you on behalf of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper

Keep vacation plans to yourself online!

Summertime is vacation time for many families. As much as youre looking forward to that upcoming trip, think twice before you broadcast your travel plans via social media. People who are active on sites such as Facebook and Twitter sometimes post messages detailing when and where they plan to vacation. Or, they may post to let their online friends and followers know they will be offline during a family vacation. Some people even post while theyre on vacation, sharing photos or updates from their trip. In each case, the result can be the same: You could return home to find that someone broke into your residence while you were away. Dont let anyone in your family advertise your vacation plans. If you want to share your vacation plans with a small circle of trusted friends and family, use privacy settings to make sure that only they will see your posts. Or better yet, wait until you get back home to share your vacation news and photos online. This message brought to you on behalf of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper.
