PART A (10*2=20 Marks) Answer all the Questions 1. Define sensitivity and desensitivity of the transfer gain. 2. What are the effects of negative feedback on distortion and gain of an amplifier? 3. State the Barkhausen criterion for an oscillator. 4. A wien bridge oscillator is used for operation at 10Khz. If the value of the resistance R is 100 Kohms, what is the value of C required? 5. What is meant by unloaded and loaded Q of tank circuit? 6. Mention the applications of Class-C tuned amplifier. 7. State the role of commutating capacitance in bistable multivibrator. 8. Draw the circuit of negative clipper with input and output waveforms. 9. Define time base generators? 10. Draw the equivalent circuit of a pulse transformer. PART B (80 marks)
11. (a) (i) Draw the circuit diagram of voltage series and current series feedback amplifier

using BJT and analyze the circuit to determine the input and output resistance (16) (OR) (b) Identify the topology and find the voltage gain, feedback factor, input resistance and output resistance of a given two stage feedback amplifier using transistor with hfe = 99 and hie = 2Kohms. (16)

12. (a) (i) Explain the working of RC phase shift oscillator using BJT with small signal

equivalent circuit and drive the expression for frequency of oscillations. (12)

(ii) For phase shift oscillator, the feedback network use R = 6 Kohms and C = 1500 pF. The transistorized amplifier used, has a collector resistance of 18 Kohms. Calculate the frequency of oscillations and minimum value of hfe of the transistor. (4) (OR) (b) (i) Draw the circuit diagram of Clapps oscillator and derive the expression for frequency of oscillations. How frequency stability can be improved in clapps oscillator. (12) (ii) A crystal has L = 0.33 H, C = 0.065 pF and CM = 1 pF with R = 5.5 Kohms find A. Series & parallel resonant frequency B. By what percent does the parallel resonant frequency exceed the series resonant frequency? C. Find the Q factor of the crystal? (4)
13. (a) (i) With

circuit diagram, A.C. equivalent circuit and frequency response characteristics, explain the operation of a single tuned amplifier. (10)

(ii) A resonant circuit has C = 120 pF, L = 100 H with a series resistance of 5 ohms. Find the Q factor and bandwidth of the circuit. (6) (OR) (b) (i) Define class C amplifier. Sketch a tuned class C amplifier with an LC tank circuit as load, derive its efficiency. (8) (ii) What is the need for neutralization? Explain hazeltine neutralization. (8)
14. (a) Explain the operation of collector coupled monostable multivibrator circuit with

circuit diagram, waveforms and equivalent circuits during each state. (16) (OR) (b) Explain the operation of a Schmitt trigger using two transistors for sinusoidal input with necessary circuit diagram and waveforms (16)
