Qn. 1 A frog fell into 30 mt deep well and tries to getout,it goes 3mts up and fall 2mts every day. we have to calculate no of days it take to getout. Ans 1st day it rises 1 mt,2nd day 1 mt, like wise 27 day 27 mts but on 28th day by climbing 3 mts it gets out no change for sleep again So in 28 days it will get out of well Qn. 2 There was a robbery happened at a bank and 3 suspects taken into custody.Their statements A:I am innocent B:I am innocent C:B did it. In these three one is lying and find the culprit. Ans if A lied complement of A (~A) and C contradicts so not possible if B lied no contradiction on three statements A, ~B, C if C lied not possible to determine the culprit clearly becoz ~C only gives B did not done that, but no proof who done that So the answer is B lied and B is Culprit Qn. 3.A cube, which is painted red on all its sides, is cut into 27 cubes with three straight cuts. Now how many cubes have i)No red face ii)1 red face iii) 2 red faces iv) 3 red faces Ans Out of 27 small cubes there will be only one cube not in the big cube's face so only one cube not painted i.e no red faces Of the remaining 26 cubes there will be only 6 cubes not in the edges so only painted on one face i.e 1 red face Of the remaining 20 cubes there will be 8 cubes on the corner painted on three sides i.e 3 red faces Remaining 12 which are in edges are painted in two sides i.e 2 red faces Qn.4 XYZ XYZ +AB - AB ---------- ---------CDEF BGA find the values of X, Y, Z,G Ans Immediately by analysing Addition problem, we can say C = 1 because maximum possible carry by adding three digit number and two digit number is 1, also X = 9 because three digit number less than 900 will not give a four digit number by adding with two digit number in the same line D = 0 because even if the three digit number is 999 and two digit number is 99 we will not get 1100 also by analysing subraction problem we can say immediately B = 8 because no three digit number in 900s will go to 700 by subracting two digit number Analysing column wise the subraction problem Z- 8 = A i.e Z = A+8 (it is not possible as only possible value for A is 1, othe than one will give two digit value for Z which is not allowed so A = 1 will give Z = 9 but 9 is alotted for X) OR 10 + Z -8 = A i.e Z = A -2 so A may be 2,3,4,5,6,7 if A = 7 then Z = 5 that gives (Y-1+10-7)= G i.e Y +2 = G also two digit number in seventies so we want three digit number more than 920 that means Y may be 2,4 if Y = 4 then G = 6 then you will get answer if Y = 2 then G = 4 here this option fails in addition (two digits for same number) answer is 945 945 -78 +78 867 1023

Qn.5.There is a cycle race going on in a circular track and 1/5th of the total in front a person and 5/6th of the total behind that person gives up the total number of participants. Total how many participants are there? Ans Let us take there are x persons so other than him there are x-1 persons x-1 persons are before and also behind the person as it is a circular race so (1/5)(x-1) + (5/6)(x-1) = x 31(x-1) = 30x 31x - 31 = 30x that gives x = 31 Qn.7 A and B have the same number of marbles when they start playing. After some time A gains 20 marbles and later he loses 2/3rds of what he had. Now B has 4 times as many marbles as A has. What are the initial number of marbles that each of them had? Ans Intially let us take both had x marbles after some time A got x + 20 So B got x - 20 Again A loses (2/3) of x+20 so B gained that Now B has x-20 + (2/3)(x+20) which is equal to 4 times of A's marbles but now A has only (1/3) (x+20) So by comparing we can say x- 20 = (2/3)(x+20) that gives x-20 = 2x/3+ 40/3 that gives x = 100 Qn.8.A women buys some shoestrips and then 4 times of that she buys packet pins and then 8 times of shoestrips she buys handkerchiefs Finally she has a bill of Rs3.24. She pays for each article as many paise as there are articles(of that particular item). Now whats the number of handkerchiefs? Ans x shoestrips 4x packet pins and 8x handkerchiefs shoe strips cost x*x,packet pins cost 16 x*x and handkerchiefs cost 64x*x so totally 81 x*x equalls to 324 paise x*x equals to 4 x=2 that means 16 handkerchiefs (8x) Qn.9. One person went to market to purchase three varieties of chocolates. He had purchased 20 items with 20 cents. Fudges are available at 4 cents each, chaco bars are available at 4 for a penny and gum pints are available at 2 a penny. How many of each item he had purchased. Ans x fudgets,y chaco bars and z gum pints ( Note : penny is nothing but cent) fudgets cost 4x cents chaco bars costs .25y gum pints costs .5z x+y+z = 20 4x+.25y+.5z= 20 So x can be 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 if x = 4 then .25y +.5z = 4 i.e y + 2z = 16 so y/2 + z = 8 then y = 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 or 14 also z = 7 or 6 or 5 or 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 respectively in none of the case y + z = 16 (i.e x+y+z= 20) so if x = 3 then .25y +.5z = 8 i.e y + 2z = 32 so y/2 + z = 16 then y = 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 or 14 ....also z = 15 or 14 or 13 or 12 or ...

but y = 2, z = 15 will give y+z = 17 i.e x+y+z = 20 So answer x = 3, y = 2, z = 15 Qn.10.There is a five digit number, where the third number is one higher than the sum of first and second digits. Fourth digit is twice of fifth and third digit is twice the fourth. Second digit is five more than the first digit. What is the number? Ans Let us take 'abcde' is the number Given c = a+b+1 ---(1) d = 2e-------(2) c = 2d-------(3) b = a+5------(4) (1) , (4) gives c = 2a+6 that means an even number more than 6 i.e 8 so d = 4 by (3) that means e = 2 by (2) and also a = 1 and b = 6 The given number is 16842 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1) There are two taps, which are used to fill the tank and one tap to empty the tank. First tap fill the tank in 10 min., while the second takes quarter of an hour to fill the tank if both are operated independently.Third tap is capable of emptying the tank in seven and a half minutes. If all the taps are opened simultaneously how long (if ever) will it take for the tank to get filled completely? Ans Pipe A fills the tank in 10 min Pipe B fills the tank in 15 min Pipe C empties the tank in 15/2 min If all the three opened simultaneously then in 1 min 1/10 + 1/15 - 2/15 of the tank will be filled that means 1/30 th of the tank will be filled in 1 min So it will take 30 minutes to fill the tank completely if all three pipes opened 2)One thief entered a cave where he found a pile of diamonds. At first he thought of taking all. But listening to his conscience he thought of taking only half of them. But while returning he picked up two more from the pile. After that Second thief entered the cave and bagged half of remaining diamonds and picked up two more while returning. Later third thief entered and did the same. Even the fourth thief did the same. When the fifth thief entered he found only one diamond in the cave. How many diamonds are there in the cave at first. Ans Total diamonds in the cave at first = x First thief took x/2 +2 So remaining is x/2 - 2 i.e (x-4)/2 Second thief took (x-4)/4 + 2 he left (x-4)/4 -2 i.e (x-12)/4 Third thief took (x-12)/8 + 2 he left (x-12)/8 -2 i.e (x-28)/8 Fourth thief took (x-28)/16 + 2 he left (x-28)/16 -2 i.e (x-60)/16 Now the remaining diamonds after fourth thief left is given as 1 So (x-60)/16 = 1 that means x = 76 3) There were two clock one is getting slow by two minutes/hr and another one is gaining 1 minute every hour and exactly after how many hours there two clock has a 1hr difference. Ans First hour First clock slowed down by 2 min while second clock gains 1 min So the time differerence after 1 hr it is 3 min That means simply after 20 hours the time difference will be 1 hour between two clocks

4) A taxi driver states that his cab number is divisible by the no 2,3,4,5,6 with a remainder of 1 and when the number is divided by 11 it does not give any remainder Ans Find LCM of 2,3,4,5 & 6 that will give a number exactly divisible by 2,3,4,5, & 6 if you add 1 to any multiple of that number you will find it will satisfy the first condition Now 61 not divisible by 11 but 120+1, 121 is exactly divisible by 11 So thats the answer 5) A man says that he gained 10 percent as profit in selling a suitable cloth material. He says if he had purchased the same one 10 percent cheaper than it was actual and if he had sold it for 20% profit he gets 25paise less. find at what price he sold the suit.? Ans Assume CP as Rs.100 and he sold for Rs.110 for 10% profit Now if CP is Rs.90 (10% cheaper) and Sold for Rs.108 (20% Profit) he got 2 Rupees less than actual For 100 CP 2 Rs less Then for what CP .25 Rs less 100:x :: 2:.25 x = 100/8 which equal to 12.5 Ans 6) Today is Saturday. A person wants to meet a lawyer and as that lawyer is busy he asks him to come three days after the before day of the day after tomorrow? On which day the lawyer asks the person to come? Ans Today is Saturday. Day after tomorrow will be Monday. Day before day after tomorrow must be Sunday. Then Three days after the day before the day after tomorrow is Wednesday. Thats the answer. 7)A person travels at a speed of 10 mph from one city to another. However while returning as there was not much traffic. He came with a speed of 15mph. what is his average speed? Ans Average Speed = Total distance travelled/Total Time Taken If x is the distance between cities then Avg Speed = 2x/[(x/10)+(x/15)] Then Average Speed is 12 mph 8)A women in her conversation said " if u reverse my own age, in figures represent my husbands age. he is of course senior to me and difference between our age is one 0ne-eleventh of their sum. what is the woman's and her husbands age? Ans Let us take xy is the age of the women in figure that means in value it is 10x+y Also given 10y + x is the husbands age 10y+x - [10x+y] = 1/11(10x+y+10y+x) 9y - 9x = x+y 8y = 10x y= (10/8)x So x should be 4 and y should be 5 ( Note x and y should be integers) Womens age is 45 and husbands age is 54 9) There was a person who smoked a lot .One day he decided to quit his habbit, but he had 27 cigarettes with him.So he started smoking them one by one ,to finish them. He had the habit of smoking only 2/3rd of it and leaving the rest butt. Latter he found out that by joining 3 butts he can form 1 cigarette. So ,tell how many cigarettes in all he smoked. Ans From 3 butts he get 1 cigarette.Hence from 27 butts he get 9 (27/3) cigarettes. Then from 9 butts he gets 3 cigarettes and from 3 butts he gets 1 more cigarette 27+9+3+1=40 So he smoked 40 cigarettes 10) There are some students in a school. The 1/2 of number of students is a whole number. Ans The number of students in the school is exactly divisible by 2,5,6 & 7 So Find LCM of 2,5,6 & 7 which equal to 210 The number of students in the school is any multiple of 210 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1)Two trains are approaching each other at 60mph each. The length of each train is 1/6 miles. When the two locomotives(engines) meet, how many seconds will it take for them to pass each other completely? Ans Time taken t in hr = sum of lengths / relative speed in miles per hour t = (1/6 + 1/6) / 120 that gives t = 2/720 hour multiply by 3600 to get seconds So in 10 seconds both the train will cross each other 2)If i multiplied by i is me. me multiplied by multiplied by me is she. What is the value of she? Ans i is single digit me two digit she three digit only possible values for single digit which gives three digit in fourth power is 4 or 5 but 5*5 gives 25 again 5 in unit digit that is not the case here So 4*4 gives 16 and 16*16 gives 256 that gives i = 4, me = 16 and she = 256 3) A man jumps into a river from a overbridge ,at the same time a hat drops in the river which flows with the stream of the water. That man travels 10 minute upstream and returns back where he was asked to catch the hat. He catches hat at a distance of 1000 yard down at a second bridge . Find the speed of the river. Ans Let us take x as the distance travelled by the man in ten min upstream x/(v-u) = 10 ( Note : v-u is the relative speed where v is mans speed and u river speed) total time swim by the man upstream and down stream is equal to the time taken by the hat to travel 1000 yards with the speed of river 1000/u = 10 + (x+1000)/(u+v) now substitute x = 10(v-u) and simplify you will get 100v = 2uv that gives 2u = 100 and u = 50 yards per minute 4) There is a 1 km long wire placed on some number of poles which are in equal distance. If the number of poles is reduced by 1 then the distance of wire between each poles increases 1(2/3).How many poles are there initially. Ans Let there are N poles intially Then the distance between two adjacent poles is =1000/(N-1) mts After removing one pole, distance between two adjacent poles is= 1000/(N-2) mts Now 1000/(N-1) + (5/3) = 1000/(N-2) (N-1) * (N-2) =600 By Solving ans will be 26

5). For every one hour two trains will start at the same time, one from Bangalore to Madras another from Madras to Bangalore On parallel tracks. All trains travel with same speed and each train will take 5 hours to reach the other station. How many trains, one train will meet during the journey? Ans The train that started 5 hour before from another station just arrived to the station when a train about to start. But the train will meet Train that started 4 hours before while on journey simillarly all the train that started from 4 hours before to the time it reaches there at another station So Totally in Nine hours 9 trains, the last train not on journey but in station Hence the train will meet 8 trains on journey from one station to other 6)A and B write a test A says " i got a third of the ques. wrong" b says " i got 5 wrong" they got three quarters of the questions correct.how many did A get correct. Ans Let us take there are x questions then (2/3)*x + (x5) = (3/4)* 2x which gives x= 30 7)In how many ways you can arrange the numbers on the die .There is only condition that 1,6 and 2,5 and 3,4 will always be on the opposite sides. Ans For n positions r objects can be arangened in nPr ways here 6 positions 3 numbers because remaining 3 positions are occupied by corresponding pairs Hence the answer is 6P3 which equal to 120 8) There are 3 societies A, B, C. A Lent Tractors to B and C as many as they had already. After some time B gave as many tractors to A and C as many as they have. After sometime C did the same thing. At the end of this transaction each one of them had 24. Find the cars each originally had. This question was bit differently asked with the same thing. Ans At last All A, B, C has 24 tractors So Before C did the transaction A and B has only half of that i.e A = 12 and B = 12 also it means C = 48 (24+12+12) Before B did the transaction A and C has half of that, i.e A = 6 and C = 24 and also B = 42 ( 12+24+6) Before A did the transaction B and C has half of that, i.e B = 21 and C = 12 and also A = 39 (6+21+12) So intially A has 39 tractors, B has 21 and C has 12 9)Quarter of the time from midnight plus half of the time to the next midnight equals that time. What is the time? Ans Let time be x Time From mid night is x-0 Time to next mid night is 24-x So Given that x/4 + 12-x/2 = x x = 48/5 which equal to 9(3/5)hr or 9 hr 36 minutes 10)A publishing company advertisd the job opening. The response was good. One hundred people applied for the post. The company wanted someone expert in both physics and chemistry. Out of which 10 did not had any specalization.70 of them had got physics training and 82 got training in chemistry.how many applicants had got training in both physics and chemistry? Ans A -- Physics B -- Chemistry Out of 100, 10 has no Specialization So the remaining 90 has specialization in Physics or Chemistry or both together

n(A) = 70 n(B) = 82 n(AorB) = n(A) + n(B) - n(AandB) 90 = 70 + 82 - x So x = 62
