EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION :-Distance education is primarily self learning as part time or whole time base, where the student makes progress according to own capacity he achieves the goal by himself- setting at home or in the study centers with the help of printed assignment, visual aids an other media MEANING;- Distance education is a form of education in which the students of universities and institutes of higher learning do not attend regular classes or lectures. But instead study teaching material especially prepared for this purpose by professors and their staffs together with experts in distance education and interact indirectly with members of the teaching staff by means of technical media for the guidance and control of their learning The indirect interaction between the university teachers and their students DEFINATION;-The relationship between teacher and taught is characterized by or controlled by technological rules , maintained by emotion- free language and not interaction speech based on a limited possibility of analyzing student needs and giving them directions and achieving it goal by efficiency Or Distance education is a system of rational actions for the imparting of knowledge ,skills and attitudes. Whereby the originally direct social relationship between teacher and students are substituted to a great extent by indirect relations which are characterized by technical rules and prescriptions a context free language , conditioned prognoses and conditioned instructions goal attainment with help of target ---- means relations and the systematical increase of effectivity AIM AND OBJECTIVES It aims at not only providing certificates and degrees but also helps in personal growth and training for better job prospect Brings changes in attitude in addition to knowledge Makes education socially more relevant. Provides flexibility of time to enable students to pace their studies Caters to educationally disadvantaged groups like unemployed people living in remote and rural areas , working people who cannot attend regular institutions, housewives etc. Providing opportunities for self- enrichment and professional upgrading.

SELF-INSTRUCTION teaching material is specially prepared for a target group. The learner gets very little opportunity to interact with the teachers and peer group and loss is compensated by self instructional material which includes all study material need to stimulated independent learning.

SELF- EVALUATING; It provides questions, exercises and other activities for selfevaiuation and checking ones leaning progress. .SELF- LEARNING;P- It gives direction ,hints and references, and motivates a person, for self learning DISTANCE EDUCATION;-INNOVATIVE METHODS LIKE HUMAN CONTACT- face- to- face sessions AUDIO- VISUAL CASSETTE recording and demonstrating the material in a lively manner. EDUCATIONAL TELECAST, covering the major ideas relating to the subject in an interesting manner. INDIRECT EDUCATION:- When consideration is given to influence of an educational organization especially in the planning and preparation of learning materials.The major groupings of institutions can be distinguished Privately sponsored Publicity sponsored National accrediting bodies. Government sponsored schools, colleges and universities PROGRAMMES WITH SOME SIMILARITIES IN DISTANCE EDUCATION Extension programmes. University without walls. Experimential dgree. Non- traditional learning e.g. distance education Off- campus studies Open learning DISTANCE STUDENTS According to the goals the duration of their studies, motivation and commitment, the distant students re categorized like UNDER GRADUATE DISTANT S Take courses to prepare themselves for graduation they must extend their study PART- TIME DISTANCE STUDENT: It includes regular students who had to discontinue their students for health, family or financial reasons, etc but wish to use their free time for studying POSTGRADUATE DISTANT STUDENTS:- Graduate students employed in the professional who wish to enroll in distance education courses in order to continue their education DISTANCE TEACHERS 1. TYPE 1 :-University distance education can rely on the high academic standard of their teachers.[special teaching functions are performed e.g Author of teaching material A tutor of distant students , since the students tries to reach his goal by reading the texts and uses their limited time economically so teachers will have to calculate their approach very carefully. Guiding and counseling function re considerable educational task 2. TYPE. 2;- Teacher at distance teaching colleges deal with distant student only which changes the profile of their work, e,g. writing teaching material and tutoring

3. TYPE 3 University teachers who conduct seminar for distant students regularly. They have to combine and adjust principles of face-to- face teaching . 4. TYPE 4 A teacher who typically dose not write any teaching material and dose not correct assignments at all, but exchange the letters with number of advanced students in order to guide and conduct their doctoral studies. The students usually live far away from universities and are working in the production process 5. TYPE 5 University teachers who assume responsibility for the management of distance teaching departments of institutions.

ROLE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION IN DEVELOPMENT OF NURSING Education is a process of mental growth .Gradually with the advancement of science and medical care , it become formalized and streamlined , in keeping with the changing demands. According to the report of the high power committee of nursing profession there is a need for reorganizing nursing education to keep it linked with the existing educational pattern and in order to keep pace with the changing pattern of health care delivery system and role of nursing personnel. The basic education of nurses must be effectively related to the needs of the population. And should take place in an interdisciplinary setting . it should encourage the concept of self- care and lay emphasis on the preventive and promotive health services along with curative and rehabilitative ones utilizing all the available resources towards this end Since nursing functions are carried at different level of knowledge , skill and most important decision making the system of nursing education must have provision for preparing personnel accordingly It can provide opportunities to: Thos nurses who working in remote areas and have no facilities for education. Those who are unable to join regular colleges due to various reasons. Those who are already working and cannot be relived from their duties by their institutions because of shortage of nurses or other reasons Those who feel that they cannot cope up with regular course within own pace
