CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer-Review Sheet ADULT VICTIM

YOU SEE A VICTIM LYING ON THE FLOOR, WHO APPEARS TO BE UNCONSCIOUS. Check the scene, put on gloves. Check victim for consciousness. (Tap and shout.) If no response, call 911 and request an AED. Open the airway and check for breathing and a pulse for no more then 10 seconds. Open the airway using the head tilt, chin lift method. Slide hand down to proximal groove of the neck to check pulse. Pulse is checked on same side as rescuer. Check for severe bleeding, scanning the body. If a pulse is present, but NO BREATHING give ventilations causing chest to clearly rise. For an adult, give 1 breath every 5 seconds. Continue this for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, re-check pulse & breathing. If NO PULSE begin CPR (30 compressions, 2 breaths) Continue giving CPR until one of the following occurs; - You notice obvious signs of life - An AED is READY to use - Another trainer rescuer takes over - More advanced medical personnel take over - You are presented with a valid Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order - You are too exhausted to continue - The scene becomes unsafe If at any time, Breaths DONT go in Reposition the airway & try again If Breaths STILL dont go in. Start chest compressions (30 compressions to dislodge the object) Look inside the victims mouth, grasp tongue and lower jaw with thumb and lift lower jaw. (THIS IS a 2-HANDED MANUEVER.) If you see an object, remove it. Give 2 rescue breaths, whether an object is removed or not.
