Mind, Body & Soul with Lakesha

What do you use to cope with your pain ... to deal with hard times the lost of a loved one, the disappoint that follows rejection or the struggle to make it day to day in a tough economy ... what do you use, how do you deal with it all? Sex, drugs and lies seem to be on the rise more than ever in this society that suffers so heavily from a lack of decent morals. Are you getting caught up with the ideals that are portrayed in the media? Think about your reactions to situations as they arise and monitor your behavior. Could you be using or abusing and are you lying to yourself? Life brings on many changes and sometimes the journey is a hard one to travel but to cope with the pressures by abusing pleasures and covering it up with lies is not the way to go. Find a place of serenity, meditate and pray. Most importantly, get help ... dont be afraid to talk about the things that are bothering you ... dont be afraid to get help. The only person that you are hiding from is yourself and no amount of sex, drugs or lies will be able to hide your pain. Just a thought from me to you ... take note and enjoy life! ~ L. Woods 5.

Ebonie is the second oldest of 5 children and if youre thinking that she looks rather familiar it is because shes our Editor-in-Chiefs daughter or mini me as some would say. Ebonie graduated with 4.5 GPA from Fort Lauderdale High School in 2011 and she is presently attend Florida State University and is studying Criminal Justice. Shes set her mind on becoming an attorney, but wait, theres so much more that this young lady has to offer. She sings on the choir, has that photogenic gene and she stand tall at 58 and half and if looks could kill, Ebonie would kncok em dead. She been labeled the Facebook model by her siblings and some friends, but all in good spirit. Many people have asked her what is she waiting for, why isnt she smiling for the camera, but with brains and beauty Ebonie hands a bag full of choices and for now shes sticking to her plan ... I want to be a Lawyer, is what she has claimed since she was just 9 or 10 years old.

With a mother whos a Writer, Businessowner and in the lime light, an older sister who graduated with honors and in the top 10 percent of her class and went on to study at the University of Florida, and host of strong and accomplished men and women in her family, youd think that Ebonie would be the typical middle-child who suffers from trying to keep up, out-do, or constantly trying to prove her worth, but not Ebonie Janae ... she makes up her own mind, thinks for herself and is not at all concerned about following suite.

Which is why we choose Ebonie has out Skin Deep Beauty of the month ... she s living the life! We asked Ebonie how is it that she balances college life, family, friends and making sound decisions during this time in life and while she is away at school? Ebonie said, It may seem bad but the way I stay focused is by putting everyone on MY schedule. If I constantly revolve my day around calling family or keeping up with friends I would never get anything done lol. I try calling all of my family members once a week around the same time and friends... If there's anything going on on campus we go to it... In reference to making sound decisions, a lot of people get to college and go wild because they've never experienced it before and because it has been forbidden from them for so long they just "have to experience it" (i.e. drugs, partying, drinking etc). But, when I realize the opportunity that I had been given (the chance to receive a college degree) nothing could make me want to jeopardize that.

Beauty & Fashion

Written by Shivana Narace

So the latest fashion accessory is the bib necklace; it looks and falls like a bib on your neck, hence the name and though it has a rather infantile name, celebrities and tastemakers alike are going ga-ga for a decidedly grown-up accessory: the bib necklace. This key piece of jewelry had a major presence in all the seasons latest fashion shows. Fashion trendsetters such as Natalia Vodianova and Mischa Barton are translating that runway look into their real-life style and are opting for everything from baby bibs to full-blown breastplates. In fact according to media sources Mischa Barton was one of the first paparazzi-favorites to try this trend. She started piling on these theatrical pieces back in late fall, choosing a sinuous silver and neon, beaded number for a Guitar Hero party. Barton's selection--a Tom Binns Design Dumont Florescent Collection Necklace ($2325, 917.475.1412) added a bright pop of color to her all-black outfit.

Of course, not every woman in the world wants to wear bold pieces, so also included are a few subtler style examples in today's story. If you prefer your baubles to be a little daintier and less dramatic, just take a cue from the spotted versions below. Some women may want to opt for bibs that are smaller in size but no less intricate and stylish than the super sized runway versions. The necklaces should replicate your personality and have a sense of charisma that is you all over it. For example if you are fun and flirty go with the champagne colored whimsical design with pearls below, if you are more of a gothic chic opt for the one that has a lot of studs etc.

Now you can make your own bib necklaces; it's a fun project and can be a group production also so invite your friends over or ask some of your family members to join in and make them all personalized to suite each person. All that you will need are ribbon, crazy glue, cloth (the same color of the beads or jewels you will be using or a color that is harmonious with the color scheme; also use extra cloth on the back by simply gluing another piece in the same shape for holding a good grip), and jewels/beads/flowers/pearls or anything else that strikes your attention to make your bib necklace. So you would first cut out cloth into a rectangular shape (size is dependent on how big or small you want your bib necklace to be) then you would place the jewels or beads etc. on the cloth in any design you wish, the next step is to place glue under each piece gluing it to the cloth, now attach the ribbon on each side of the cloth (burn the ends with a match of fire for smooth finish), finally turn it over and place glue on the back of the cloth (you should have another cloth in the same shape to attach) simply attach it on, and your bib necklace is ready. Where this trend on a night out, to a formal event or with your favorite sundress and don't forget to tell everyone who designed it.

Life of Hip Hop

With a ready for the world attitude Young Tip is set out to make his mark on the Hip Hop community. Born and raised in Charlotte, NC Young Tip says he pushed himself to be in the Hip Hop community. He says the love of music got him interested in becoming a rapper but more than anything it was the wack rappers that he would hear on the radio and he felt that if they're making it, he could make it. Some of his inspirations are Eminem and T.I.. He says it's not about the fame for him but he openly acknowledges that he wants to acquire wealth and he wants to use his money to start a business and help the people in his circle. Young Tip says a lot of people don't get a shot to do something positive because of their past and he wants to be able to help people in those types of situations.

Life of Hip Hop

He said, Give me a minute, I will be the best. Tip went on to say that he wants to own a national landscaping business and offer lawn care services nationwide and he plans to use the money that he acquires from the music industry to make his dream come true. Brian B produces some of his music but he also produces his own beats, and mixes and engineers his own music as well. When it comes to Charlotte and the music industry he said, My city is kinda hateful on other artist ... a lot of famous rappers have come here and people try to rob them ... I dont understand what it is with my city. He said you can get discovered here in Charlotte but hes not going to say that this city is your best option. Healthy Life
Astria Goolsby is the CEO and Founder of Verve Health and Wellness Consulting. She studied exercise science and graduated from the University of Mississippi. Her original plan was to become a doctor or nurse but as Astria explained to me, that her life took on many turns and with those turns her career path changed as well. Luckily, she has a true love for health care and her work as a personal trainer. She spoke so adamantly about helping others achieve their weight and health goals. I felt like interjecting at times by saying, Sign me up! I asked Astria to explain how she stumbled into the position of personal trainer and she told me that she was in college and working at Applebees, and then she lost her job and found herself feeling frustrated and praying to God asking for a new job. Well, this young lady must have some praying power because 14.

she says just as soon as she asked for a job she was offered one! She was offered a position as a personal trainer. Astria recalled being unsure about the position, she was afraid that she would do a terrible job but she explained that as time went on and she saw how she was able to help others change their way of life it motivated her and their success in her program helped her to realize that her passion and purpose was to change lives through fitness. Shes a hard working woman who works from sun up to sun down managing Verve, the trainers and other professionals who work under Verves umbrella. All professionals who provide service through Verve are in the health field and they hold degrees. The company also helps organizations and businesses keep their employees actively participating in the program. Unlike some of their competitors, Verve is a company that works well with others. The trainers consult with their clients and even make recommendations to other programs if necessary. Astria said that if a client needs Weight Watchers theyll make that recommendation. Verve also works with federally funded programs such as MS State Department of Health, CDC, and Healthy You. Reaching people who dont have the monetary resource or time is one of Verves main missions. Astria says that even with the expansion of her business she is still able to maintain a personal one on one connection with her clients and that is something that she always wants to maintain, even if she has 5 clients, 2 clients or 1 client, she says she loves that

and it is apparent that she wants to stay hands on in the business. She says, its a rewarding feel to know that people are being educated and changing their way of life with the tools that she is giving them. She says that being a good trainer in about being able to customize everything that youve learned as a trainer to fit each individual person and she also says that having a degree has also enables her to do a better job at incorporating her communication skills. She said being a black women a black business woman in the South is not being easy she said, I could be having a horrible day some could have said something to me to that just really make me go cry because I am a sensitive woman, but when I go train someone and they give me 150 percent or I see that they are listening to me and everything and their just focused on what Im saying and I see the power that I have to help them live a better life and I know the rewards they are going to get in the end and they dont even know it so that just lifted my whole day lifted my spirits. It made me feel like this is a gift some people have a gift of being able to play professional football or some of them have a give of being great tennis players. I have a gift of personal training that is my athletic ability. Its to be able to train; I have to keep myself up. Its a wonderful feeling to find out what it is youre meant to do and to be able to do that and make a difference in someones life thats just awesome.
