*Punta Uva:
Stand-up Paddling
Stand-Up Paddle Boarding is actually an ancient form of surfing originating, like regular surfing in the Hawaiian Islands. In the early 1960s, the beach boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards and paddle out with long outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf. Recently reintroduced by Laird Hamilton it has proven to be a great way to stay in shape. Stand-Up Paddling or SUPing is very popular in warm coastal climates, lakes and rivers, and is gaining in popularity as anyone can do it. Stand-up paddle boarding provides a great core exercise and improves balance. SUPs have been spotted around the globe anywhere there is easy access to safe waters, rivers, as well as in the surfing lineups of the world. One of the main reasons for the rise in popularity of stand up paddle boarding is that, unlike surfing, paddle boarding is VERY easy to learn. Within one hour you can become very comfortable in the water and on your board. Standing up on a board allows the rider to see the wave sooner. Standing also allows the rider to see fish, turtles, rays, reefs and so much more.
