DEVELOPING INTERNATIONAL AND CULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH VOCAL MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD

What is SOUL? Singers Of United Lands ("S.O.U.L.") is a unique quartet of four professional young adult singers - each from a different country and continent. Every year a new team of four singers representing high-quality vocal musicianship, geographical diversity, and enthusiasm for sharing about their respective cultures, is formed to share their native songs and cultures with schools and communities throughout the U.S. and beyond. They perform songs which are native to their home countries and give interactive workshops, presentations, performances, and lessons for audiences of ALL ages for a period of 6 months. All programming is conducted in English and features the four singers' native songs and their respective cultures.

What is SOUL-Kenya? In 2012, for the first time, and through a partnership with the Kenya Conservatoire of Music, SOUL will be programming in Kenya for Two Weeks! They will visit schools, colleges, libraries, churches and other venues, interact with various audiences and teach new things about their native countries through workshops, songs and concerts and then proceed to do the same in other destinations in Africa!

How Can my Institution Benefit from the SOUL-Kenya Project? S.O.U.L. programming is intended to be tailor-made to each institution. Hosting schools or organizations have the opportunity to work closely with the SOUL-Kenya Representative to prepare and coordinate the activities that the S.O.U.L. team will conduct during their residency. The S.O.U.L. team is able to lead discussions and workshops on a variety of topics including: cultural diversity, music, foreign languages, geography, social sciences, politics, economics, anthropology, sociology, and more. All the programs are intensive, comprehensive, impactful and relevant to the respective audiences. Given that the S.O.U.L. team members are all professionally-trained singers, their skills and abilities are especially appreciated by students and teachers of music. This opportunity allows the S.O.U.L. singers to teach their respective native songs to music students and then perform these songs with the students in a joint-concert setting. Nevertheless, S.O.U.L. programming is equally well-received by teachers and students of other subjects as mentioned above. Below is a sample of what S.O.U.L. could offer: Music classroom workshop Presentation for individual classroom (history, language, culture, geography, etc.) Assembly performance Festival performance Religious Service Performance Your Choice!
