up in the sky, its a bird, its a plane. Its Superman! Yes, its Superman strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman - who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for Truth, Justice, and the American way. And, so, one Super hero was born. One year later a second Super hero burst on the American scene when Batman appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May, 1939. Known also as the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, and the Worlds Greatest Detective, Batman didnt have superpowers, but he did have his Utility Belt, from which he could draw weapons to fight his enemies, including: The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Faced Poison Ivy, and, of course, Cat Woman. Batman was, of course, Bruce Wayne, billionaire industrialist who used his wealth, his wit, his intellectual powers to fight evil in the mythical Gotham City. With the help of his boy wonder Robin; his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, his Bat Cave, and his souped-up Bat Mobile, Batman was a mysterious figure who roamed the streets at night, scooping up

Comic Book shows a red-andblue-clad Super-man hoisting up a car in an explosive scene; another shows the Man of Steel rescuing a man seen apparently falling to his death from a New-York style skyscraper. But for the flying super-dude, that man, obviously, would not have survived the fall. Thus, from the earliest inception, Superman burst upon the American scene as one of our first Super heroes. From comic books, then, to a 1950s series about the Super-dude on the small screen, with actor George Reeves playing the role, an announcer introduced

evil-doers. Following on the heels of Superman, Batman was not from a distant planet like Krypton. He was American-born and bred. He did not have super-powers either, but he didnt need them. And then came Spider-Man. Known also as Spidery, Web-Slinger, Wall-Crawler, and Web-Head, Spider-Man crawled into the Super-Hero genre in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August, 1962. Published by Marvel Comics, and edited by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character was born with super strength and super agility, including the ability to cling to most surfaces like a spider shoot spider webs using web shooters, and the sensitivity to react to danger quickly with his spidersense. Though he came well after Superman and Batman, Spider-Man has superseded both comic books and commercial movies as the most popular and commercially successful hero. He has appeared in many forms of media, including animated and live-action television shows, syndicated newspaper comic strips and a series of films starring Tobey Maguire as the action star. Hes even been on Broadway, in the musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. To boot, Spiderman emerged, in 2011, as third on IGNs Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time. From comic books to multi-media presentations,

these Super-heroes have evolved into powerful, moneymaking mutants, earning millions of dollars around the world. None, however, has generated the huge commercial success of the most recent attack on human sensibilities as the movie, The Avengers. The recent production by Marvel Comics who first introduced The Avengers in comic book form in 1963 the film has set unprecedented box office records, raking in more than $107 million in its first weekend.

By uniting the Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Wasp, the Ant Man, and others, and with their battle-cry of Avengers Assemble, the list of human mutants, robots, gods, aliens and supernatural beings have grossed more than $1.5 billion around the world, and still counting. But, picture, if you will, a movie featuring the super-hero trio of Superman, Batman, and Spiderman all in one production. Can you imagine the income to be generated by some creative movie- mak-

The Real Story of the Superheroes by Dulce Pinzn

After September 11, the notion of the hero began to rear its head in the public consciousness more and more frequently. The notion served a necessity in a time of national and global crisis to acknowledge those who showed extraordinary courage or determination in the face of danger, sometimes even sacrificing their lives in an attempt to save others. However, in the whirlwind of journalism surrounding these deservedly front-page disasters and emergencies, it is easy to take for granted the heroes who sacrifice immeasurable life and labor in their day to day lives for the good of others, but do so in a somewhat less spectacular setting. The Mexican immigrant worker in New York is a perfect example of the hero who has gone unnoticed. It is common for a Mexican worker in New York to work extraordinary hours in extreme conditions for very low wages which are saved at great cost and sacrifice and sent to families and communities in Mexico who rely on them to survive.

BERNABE MENDEZ from the State of Guerrero works as a professional window cleaner in New York.He sends 500 dollars a month.

The Mexican economy has quietly become dependent on the money sent from workers in the US. Conversely, the US economy has quietly become dependent on the labor of Mexican immigrants. Along with the depth of their sacrifice, it is the quietness of this dependence which makes Mexican immigrant workers a subject of interest. The principal objective of this series is to pay homage to these brave and determined men and women that somehow manage, without the help of any supernatural power, to withstand extreme conditions of labor in order to help their families and communities survive and prosper. This project consists of 20 color photographs of Mexican and Latino immigrants dressed in the costumes of popular American and Mexican superheroes. Each photo pictures the worker/superhero in their work environment, and is accompanied by a short text including the workers name, their hometown, the number of years they have been working in New York, and the amount of money they send to their families each week. Do you want a rain gauge?

I have been asked in various emails about rain gauges and where they can be purchased. Obviously, our current rainy weather tends to encourage folks to be weather watchers and keep track of rainfall amounts. This helps all the local meteorologists keep everybody informed on how much rain has fallen across the area. Ive called several stores throughout El Paso and found that Lowes, Wal-Mart and Home Depot, to name a few, all carry the rain gauges. These range in price from as little as ten dollars up to as much as fifty bucks for a fancy one. Before you head out to buy one, realize that when we start to get rain (like we have been having), these gauges tend to go quickly so be prepared to see an empty shelf at times. I purchased one myself several years ago from Lowes for around fifteen bucks. This is a three foot metal pole with a rain gauge attached. It works great! When you place the rain gauge on your property it is important to position it away from any building or trees. This will prevent any rain being blocked from entering the funnel or from artificially adding too much water from runoff. When you receive rain, please let us know how much and your location so we can include it in our weather forecasts. Also, if you know some rain fell and there is nothing (or just a tiny bit less than 0.01) we call this a trace. This should be reported as "T" on your reports. Even if there were just a few drops that don't even dampen the gauge, you should still report a trace. By the way, trace amounts do not add up over time.

Weather Trivia:
One inch of rain equals how many gallons of water per square yard? A. 1 Gallon
B. 3.1 Gallons C. 4.7 Gallons D. 5.5 Gallons

BLESS ME, ULTIMA TO

MAKE EL PASO HISTORY
El Paso to Host World Premiere of Film Adaptation of Rudolfo Anayas Classic Novel, Bless Me, Ultima September 17, 2012 at the Historic Plaza Theatre

The Sin Fin Column

Rudy Anaya and I go way back. Im so proud of him and so proud of his masterpiece, Bless Me, Ultima. When he first wrote the Chicano classic, in 1972, he was turned down by at least seven publishers. That is, until Octavio Romano a pioneering publisher of Chicano Literature grabbed ahold of the book and ran with it, honoring Rudy and his book with the first-ever Premio Quinto Sol.

Rudy Anaya is a tremendous writer

ceeding in America found equally elusive. Racism didnt allow them the success of which they dreamed. Bless Me, Ultima became an overnight success in Chicano communities, making Rudy the most well-known and most successful writer of that era. I first met Rudy face-toface In 1976, when I was working with Romano at Quinto Sol Publications in Berkeley, CA. As the Editorial Assistant to Romano, one of my tasks was to fill orders for all of Romanos titles. By far, Bless Me, Ultima outsold every other book. It wasnt too long before Rudys book had sold 100,000 copies, and its still going strong. So strong that, after 40 years or so of its existence, the book will finally hit the big screen, to be shown in El Paso in September. I consider Rudy a really good friend, actually, we became friends from the moment we met. Were such good friends that he penned the Preface to my own book, Chicano Sin Fin: Memoirs of a Chicano Journalist. Let me tell you a little story of Rudy and me. He was the editor of an anthology called New America. He contacted me and asked me to submit one of my stories. This was in the1970s, and I sent him a piece called: La Rukita de Santayana: Alborotada, about an 80-year old woman who has sex for the first time in her life. Rudy loved the story accepted it, but, his editorial board did not. They forced Rudy to reject my story and to ask me for another. I sent him a piece from a manuscript I had, Still Magic America. That one was accepted. Never one to shy from controversy, Rudys classic has been banned several times. Most recently Bless Me, Ultima was banned in Tucson, AZ by the school district, the same district that doesnt allow Mexican American Studies in its high schools. They dont want for young Chicanos to learn about their past and about their place in American society. The school district banned hundreds of literary titles written by Chicano writers, including Bless Me. They even banned a poem of mine, Tonantzin, that had been published in an anthology, Cantos al Sexto Sol, edited by Cecilio Garcia Camarillo, Dr. Roberto Rodriguez, and Patricia Gonzales. Besides this anthology, which included hundreds of Chicano writers, the powers-that-be also banned Rudys book and other Chicano classics. One way to beat this boycott is for Chicanos and other readers to find out which books were banned, and buy them. Youll find some of those titles in such bookstores as Cinco Puntos Press, at the UTEP and EPCC bookstores and, Im sure, Barnes and Noble. But, see, weve already beat the boycott with the bigscreen adaptation of Bless Me, Ultima. Im proud of Rudy Anaya and consider him a good friend. I hope he thinks of me in the same way. El Paso, TXHollywood will bring its red carpet to the border when El Paso hosts the world premiere of BLESS ME, ULTIMA on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the historic Plaza Theatre. The film is based on the controversial novel and Chicano literary classic by acclaimed author, Rudolfo Anaya. As home to the largest Mexican American student population in the country, El Paso was a natural choice for this historic event. BLESS ME, ULTIMA, will be released in El Paso theatres on Friday, September 21, 2012. El Paso, rich in Chicano history, culture and art, was chosen by BLESS ME, ULTIMA filmmakers to become the first city in the US to debut the film because of its enthusiastic movie audience, energy and passion for all aspects of the film and novel. Because of its history, location and the passion shown by the arts community in El Paso we believe that the city is the perfect place to open BLESS ME, ULTIMA to the public, said Santiago Pozo, Founder & CEO of Arenas, the LA based company that is distributing and marketing the film. The project has been welcomed with open arms by El Paso artists, politicians, educators and

business communities to support and welcome filmmakers and the opportunity. "BLESS ME, ULTIMA is one of those books that never lets you go. To have Ultima come to life on the big screen in El Paso is a great honor for El Paso. One that I know we won't forget," said Susie Byrd, El Paso City Council Representative. Directed by Carl Franklin (Devil in the Blue Dress) and based on the controversial novel by acclaimed author Rudolfo Anaya, BLESS ME, ULTIMA is a turbulent coming-of-age story about Antonio Marez (Luke Ganalon), a young boy growing up in New Mexico during World War II. When a mysterious curandera named Ultima (Miriam Colon) comes to live with his family, she teaches him about the power of the spiritual world. As their relationship grows, Antonio begins to question the strict Catholic doctrine that he has been taught by his parents (Dolores Heredia & Benito Martinez). Through a series of mysterious and at times terrifying events Antonio must grapple with questions about his own destiny, the relationship between good vs. evil and ultimately how to reconcile Ultimas powers with those of the God of his church.

Immediately, the book caught the Chicano readers attention and imagination with the magical realism inherent in the book. It enjoyed a period of relative tranquility, that is, until some racist and culturally ignorant educators came face to face with Ultima and what they considered unsuitable for young readers because, to them, Ultima was a witch rather than what she actually was a healer and curandera. Rudy went merrily along, penning other creative works, such as Tortuga and Heart of Aztlan a trilogy of books which would explain Chicanismo and how and why Chicanos endured the racism inherent in Albuquerque and other parts of NewMexico. His books immediately became popular among high school and college students across the U.S. because they understood what Rudy was trying to say. His Golden Carp was, perhaps, a statement on what his protagonist, the young Antonio, tried to capture but became elusive, as, perhaps, other young Chicanos with Golden dreams of suc-

Summer Style Hits to Buy Now and Wear Later

By Sharon Mosley

The maxi dress What started out being a staple of the hippie-chic generation in
the '60s has turned into a modern-day take on laid-back bohemian style a great way to dress up for summer, whether it's for a barbeque in the backyard or an evening stroll at the beach. Bold floral prints are the favorites for the long dresses this time around, but colorful solids will brighten up your wardrobe, too. For cooler days, top off these summer dresses with cotton cardigans.

Colored pants Move over black, and step into

some red jeans, yellow crops or turquoise Bermudas. Putting your color on the bottom is where it's at this summer, and you can plan on this trend continuing right on into the fall season. Pick up at least one pair and banish the boring black for a while. Colorful printed pants are another fun option; check out the new graphic ikat prints. For more ways to extend the life of this trend, see "color blocking" below.

The heat is on, and summer fashion is heating up with sizzling bargains on sales now in your favorite stores and online shopping sites. So with plenty of warm weather left to celebrate, now's a perfect time to take advantage of these hot deals. Then with a little twist on the styling, you can easily wear them right into fall and winter.

The one-shoulder dress If

you've got a festive occasion to attend this summer a wedding, a graduation party or even a gala fundraiser the one-shoulder dress is a stylish way to dress up for the event. And again, forget the traditional little black dress and cool it off with an icy white. White also promises to be a winter favorite this year, too. For a holiday party, wear the one-shoulder white dress, and pair it with a frosty fur wrap.

The peplum These flouncy ruffles at the waist peplums are adding a fresh touch to summer's best skirts and dresses. One word of caution: Peplums are great ways to show off slim waists, but they can add pounds to hip areas. Mix and match short jackets with these skirts and dresses for fall. Hi-low hems Want to shop for something a little different to wear? Skirts and dresses with high hems in the front, tapering to longer ones in the back are alternatives that will give your summer outfits a different kind of vibe. Team them with strappy sandals this summer and wear them into fall with tights and boots. Color blocking This trend is tricky, but it can provide lots of creative style to your
wardrobe now and going forward. Look for colors that you love, and experiment by mixing them up in new ways. For summer, you might wear a pair of dark emerald jeans with a robin's egg blue T-shirt and for fall, pair them with a darker cobalt blue jacket; or team a pair of red cropped pants with an orange tank for summer and add a dark crimson sweater for fall. Isaac Mizrahi capitalizes on the maxi dress trend for summer with his signature collection featured on QVC. (www.qvc.com)

Supreme Court Health Care Ruling:

EMAIL, ONLINE THANK-YOUS SUFFICE IN STRESSFUL TIMES

DEAR ABBY: "Wants to Do the Right Thing" (April 18) asked about using email to thank those who donated to a fundraiser for her son, who has bone cancer. What is wrong with that? I have been there. One of my twin boys was diagnosed with cancer at age 2. I was grateful for all the help my family and friends gave me, but I did not always have the time or energy to devote to writing thank-you cards. You really have to have experienced this kind of long-term stress and trauma to understand. It takes all the strength you have to just get through each day without breaking down. For larger donations, I would write a card when I could or print some out on my computer. Sometimes I recruited a friend or family member to handle thank-you notes. People always ask, "What can I do?" Well, assign them this task! Another way of thanking people was through a blog, like CaringBridge. These free websites were a great way to keep in touch with people and let them know what was going on. I often posted general notes of thanks there, then emailed everyone who contributed with a link to the site. The truth is, it was difficult to accept charity and help from others, and I often found myself overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support. -- TRULY THANKFUL IN NEW YORK DEAR TRULY THANKFUL: Thank YOU for your heartfelt letter and helpful suggestions. I reminded "Wants" that writing personal thankyou notes was the proper thing to do, but not all readers agreed. Their comments: DEAR ABBY: Any spare time that mom has needs to be spent with her family or taking care of herself. They are going through a very difficult time. I believe that in this day and age, the majority of people would understand and not expect a thank-you note for their donation. So a quick email of thanks would be more than appreciated. Email is more acceptable now, especially among younger people. If this is all she has time for, it's better than no thank-you at all. -- KELLY IN WINCHESTER, VA. DEAR ABBY: To that mother of the child with cancer: Instead of writing thank-you notes to all the people who help you in the community, please spend that time with your son. Someday, return the favor with some other family's child. Many families in our town cope with childhood cancer. We help each other. It is important that you spend every precious moment with him, not writing cards. We all understand. -- PAYING IT FORWARD IN CLYDE, OHIO DEAR ABBY: You correctly advised "Wants" that a handwritten, personal note was in order. However, having found myself in this position, I sometimes first send out a quick "blanket" email to all the donors: "Dear Friends and Family, you are great to contribute to our cause. Please forgive this email reply, but we want you to know right away how much your support means to us. You'll be hearing from us personally as soon as possible." This acknowledges the generosity immediately, while relieving some stress for the writer at a busy time. -- WISE IN WASHINGTON DEAR ABBY: Please tell "Wants" that her son should write some of the letters if he's old enough. The notes should be to people he knows. Folks won't expect a thank-you right away. -- CANCER SURVIVOR IN OKLAHOMA DEAR ABBY: Handwrite those notes. Make them brief. Following my wife's death two years ago, I handwrote about 400 thank-yous to those who had sent cards and flowers or made donations. It was cathartic for me, and it recognized the efforts of those who contributed. -DOING THE RIGHT THING IN MICHIGAN ** Dear Abby is written by Abigail Van Buren, also known as Jeanne Phillips, and was founded by her mother, Pauline Phillips. Many corporations had been waiting anxiously to see how the Supreme Court's ruling on the constitutionality of parts of the health care reform law would affect them. Meanwhile, the global economic slowdown puts pressure on our economy, on job creation and on our stock market. Even the Fed is powerless to create enough stimulus to get our economy growing again in the face of all that negativity. Banks have money, but they aren't confident enough to lend. Some businesses have cash but they aren't confident enough to spend and hire. And individuals still aren't confident that their jobs will exist, so they aren't confident enough to buy new homes, even at record low interest rates.

Whether you're a confused stock market investor or a saver frustrated by low interest rates this is not the time to make any big moves. The best decisions are made by analyzing facts, but these days the financial facts seem to change day by day. That argues for staying pat in a balanced strategy if you're an investor. When markets are irrational, you must stay disciplined, especially when so many key issues are truly out of our control.

slowing growth in Europe and in America.

China's Economic Slowdown: For the past few

decades, China's growth has depended on its exports to the United States and to Europe. So with America in an economic slowdown and Europe clearly in recession, China's exports have dropped, affecting their economy. That has caused the Chinese central bank to cut interest rates in an attempt to stimulate growth. But many global economists worry about the extent of China's economic decline, noting that their statistics are not always reliable.

Where does this leave individual investors and savers? Investors: All of this uncertainty has led to dramatic swings in the stock market. A triple-digit loss one day is followed by big gains the next day. Even professional traders get whipsawed. Play it safe, and ignore the daily headlines. Stick to your long-term plan of regular, diversified investing for your retirement.

Europe's Financial Crisis: Each rescue plan has

failed to solve the inherent problem that was created when Europe brought diverse countries into an economic union and a common currency without any control over the individual countries' taxing and spending policies. Europe has fallen into recession.

Why does it matter to us? China is also a market for

many U.S. exports, including machinery and agricultural products. A slowdown in their demand is ultimately a negative for significant parts of our economy. The good news coming out of China's economic slowdown is that they have cut back on their purchases of many global commodities. That is part of the reason for the falling price of oil, which leads to lower gasoline prices here.

Why does it matter to our economy? As Walt

Savers: The interest-rate markets are the most manipulated of all; the Fed has promised to keep pushing rates down. But when you seek out higher yields, you are accepting more risk despite the promises of the salespeople. You may be willing to accept some of that risk for a portion of your savings. Cont.page 12

Health Care Reform Lives!

Do you remember the day you learned to ride a bike? Your first kiss?
Where you were when you heard the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act? I do. I've been tracking healthy lifestyle issues since this column first began in hold on now 1976, and clearly the Supreme Court decision on June 28, 2012, is the best new thing in health care since the invention of hand-washing. all a disgrace that no other developed country in the world tolerates. No fewer than five presidents over 80 years pushed unsuccessfully for reform. Now that all three branches of government have given the Affordable Care Act a thumbs-up, the process can unfold. Of course it will be challenging change usually is but this transformative 2,700-page law has many facets and features worth celebrating. Most you already know: Insurance companies can't deny coverage for pre-existing conditions or imenough to just treat people when they get sick. It's expensive, it's too late, and it's stupid. Much smarter, more economical and definitely more compassionate is to help people avoid sickness and disease. That's built into the act in ways that will unfold over the next few years. One brilliant innovation involves rewarding doctors for keeping patients well, instead of just paying them for tending to the sick. This is happening already, in scattered enlightened programs, and it's definitely the way of the future.

Here in America, the wealthiest nation on earth, no illness or accident should lead to any family's financial ruin.
President Barack Obama Is it a perfect bill? No. But the perfect really is the enemy of the good. This moves us down a new and bumpy road to a more effective, more efficient, more humane health care system. And that's a stunning and wonderful development, because the old road was taking us over a very high cliff. All politics aside, the system has been badly broken for years. We Americans pay the most for our medical care, but the quality of that care isn't nearly as good as it should be. Our life expectancy rate has been going down, while insurance rates go up, and medical costs continue to skyrocket. Fifty million of our citizens have no medical insurance at pose lifetime caps; kids can stay on their parents' plan until they're 26; women will no longer pay more than men for services. These are just a few of the popular features that need to be talked up and explained time and time again, so that the next time a politician tells you Obamacare is the ruination of the country, you'll put your fingers in your ears and whistle your favorite tune. Just now, mine is the Beatles "Revolution," and here's why:

INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RETHINK THEIR METHODS. For way too
long, for-profit private insurance companies dominated our health care system. As conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly said on Fox News the night of the Supreme Court decision, "They screwed up." They raised premiums without mercy and if you asked for mercy, they kicked you off the rolls.

IT'S A WIN FOR WELLNESS. High-five! Fist bump!

Mercury's retrograde influence on Leo endures and is exacerbated by the sun-square-Saturn challenge through the early week. Since Leo rules the heart, this is an excellent time to review the heart's story. This is not to be confused with the true story or the facts of your personal history, as the heart follows its own peculiar version of reality. But feelings are just as important, if not more so, in the life scheme. ARIES (March 21-April 19). It's only smart to shy away from jobs that seem like they are going to be an absolute grind. Despite your high intelligence, or perhaps because of it, you'll find yourself inspired to ignore logic in favor of a stronger calling. The most profound experience will come as a result of taking on an exceptionally difficult job. TAURUS (April 20-May 20). There have been times in your life when you've considered your persistence to be a curse. This week you'll see your tenacity for the great gift that it is. You'll keep pushing ahead with a project even when you think you might fail and that takes heart! Your actions will inspire a whole team of people. GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Certain relationships tend to bring up feelings of envy this week. You wish you had had certain opportunities that were not afforded to you, opportunities that others seem to take for granted. But don't let this fact color the vast array of one-of-a-kind experiences you have had that helped mold you into who you are. CANCER (June 22-July 22). Your plan will be extremely important, and it doesn't even have to be a good plan to make a difference. That it exists at all will be the main reason for your success. You'll carry yourself with purpose and intention. Friday brings an encounter with someone in charge. Your winning way makes a difference. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You have a low tolerance for people who bring you down, which is why you now have an entirely different set of friends. You'll find that you can do so much more than you thought when you stick near supportive people who want to contribute to your intellectual, emotional and spiritual development. Chippendale does Day-Glo! Electric color fast forwards a traditional l8th-century camelback sofa. Photo: Lucas Allen When a design pro such as Miles Redd is orchestrating the mix, it can also lend a jolt of slam-bang color! Look how he treats this Chippendale-ish camelback sofa: He painted the frame white carvings and all then wrapped the sofa's traditional curves in very untraditional electric-sapphire satin. Turning up the color volume even further, he pushes it against a wall covered in parrot-green, hand-painted wallpaper. Above it hangs an Ellsworth Kelly lithograph in clanging yellow and white. Doing a Good Turn Badly

Aside from teenagers, no driving demographic gets into more car crashes, mile for mile, than seniors. Elderly drivers running amok even if it's just running amok at 10 mph is a common stereotype, their diminished abilities usually attributed to declines in vision, cognitive abilities and physical skills. However, a new study out of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst suggests at least some driving deficiencies among older drivers are the result of bad habits, not age. In particular, researchers looked at one of the most common types of accidents involving elderly motorists: right-of-way crashes. These are incidents typically involving some sort of turn in which one driver fails to yield properly to another at an intersection. It's long been presumed that when this happens and involves an elderly driver, it's because he or she couldn't or didn't see the other car, became distracted or somehow simply failed to negotiate the turn all attributed to the consequences of age.

Dcor Score...
Continued from page 10 Suzanne and Lauren McGrath, authors of "Good Bones, Great Pieces" from whom we borrowed this photo, share a quote from Redd that speaks directly to your conundrum: "Great objects are what make a room beautiful ... " the designer says. "You have to be flexible if you find a piece you fall in love with."

Q: Is there any rule of thumb on how high a cocktail table should be?

A: Designers turn thumbs-down on tables that are

higher than the front edge of your sofa or so much lower that you have to reach down to it. In fact, when researchers put elderly drivers through a set of simulated driving conditions, the root cause of mismanaged right-of-way collisions turned out to be a failure to sufficiently look both ways, to scan in all directions for potential problems. In other words, older drivers spent too much time simply, solely looking for problems directly in front of them. But when elderly drivers were provided with instruction that included video training, their driving skills improved markedly and the improvement persisted for at least one year. Indeed, the older drivers were no worse at negotiating intersections than younger motorists and probably a lot more patient doing it. As with any furnishings, common sense and comfort are your best guides. That goes for the height of dining chairs, too. When you sit, your elbows should rest comfortably on the table, not that you'll leave them there during dinner. And it tells you how high to hang a chandelier over a dining table, how high your end tables and how tall your lamps should be. It also tells you how far apart chairs should be in a seating group and how high to hang pictures and mirrors on a wall. The answers, based on common sense and comfort: Chandeliers should be close enough to the table top for good lighting while you eat but not so close that you bump your head or stare into the bulbs. About 30 inches above the table usually works. End tables should be approximately as high as the arms of your sofa or chair. The lamps on them need shades that cover the bulb when you sit to read. Lamps shouldn't leave you staring down into the light when you stand. Chairs and other seating pieces should be only a few feet apart, close enough for quiet conversation between the sitters. And there should always be a tabletop or other place to perch your glass, glasses and reading material that is no more than an arm's reach away from each seat. Pictures and mirrors should be hung at eye-level when you stand. No point in craning your neck or bending down to see. However, I'd turn thumbs-up on exceptions to the "rule" when you are hanging art over a table or other piece of furniture. It should be close enough for the eye to see the "gestalt" of the arrangement, that is, the separate elements as a cohesive design statement. 'Ghost Recon Future Soldier' is Both Complex and Fun

DEVELOPER: Ubisoft Paris PUBLISHER: Ubisoft SYSTEM: Microsoft Xbox 360 (PS3, PC) PRICE: $59.99 ESRB RATING: Mature REVIEW RATING: 4.5 stars (out of 5) Old-school gamers have watched the "Ghost Recon" franchise slowly evolve from a strategic shooter into more of a high-tech tactical shooter. Now the latest version, titled "Ghost Recon Future Soldier," has been turned into an action-oriented shooter with mild tactical elements. While the drastic change may alienate some people, this long-time fan of the series still appreciates the overall package! Set in a realistic near future rife with terrorists and die-hard sol-

diers, the story follows a group of secretive military Ghosts as they track the source of a dirty bomb that almost made its way into the U.S. Players globe-trot their way from one country to the next as they escort VIPs, hunt down arms dealers, and blast every enemy they come across. If this all sounds familiar, it's because the story line is as played-out as top-40 hiphop.

Fortunately, the game play goes beyond what is found in most modern shooters. For instance, I really like how running-andgunning is discouraged by making it the quickest way to fail a mission and/or get the player's squad wiped out! This encourages team play in both single and coop mode. Continues on page 15

It's also fun to become practically invisible by using optical camouflage and then sneak up on enemies for silent take-downs. Even more helpful is the ability to highlight enemies and then coordinate multiple kills with a single order! In addition to playing the entire campaign in single and coop mode, players can defend bases from seemingly endless waves of enemies in Guerrilla mode. Moreover, the exciting class-based adversarial combat offers four different modes over ten maps and is much more enjoyable than twitch-based shooters like "Call of Duty Modern Warfare!" "Ghost Recon Future Soldier" is very different from past iterations, but it still ends up as a very solid and fun shooter!

This cool collection contains hours upon hours of sneaky game play by offering both "Metal Gear Solid 2" and one of my favorites, "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater," in one package. Even though it doesn't include "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" like the console versions of the HD collection do, the package is still a good deal! It would be easy to laugh at some of the ridiculous plot points found in "MGS2," like having to fight an obese guy on roller-skates, if the

Sadly, all is not well in the HD collection. Sure, I can understand wanting to incorporate PSVitaspecfic options, but why do I have to use the touch-screen to change weapons? It would be much more intuitive to use the exclusive reartouch panel to do so because my fingers wouldn't block the screen, and my hands would stay in the same position. Any number of toes over the norm (usually an extra one or two, but occasionally as many as three or four) makes a cat polydactyl, which means many fingers. Polydactylism is a dominant genetic trait, which means just one polydactyl parent is enough to make a litter of polydactyl kittens. Cats can hear nearly three times more frequencies than humans can. For you technical types, a cats hearing stops at 80 kilohertz, a dogs at 45 kHz, and a humans at a pathetic 20 kHz. Because cats can rotate their ears and focus each ear independently, they also can hear well from all directions. A cat can rotate its outer ear to locate a sound such as the sound of a mouses footsteps trying to sneak by 10 times faster than a dog. The phrase Beware of dog is so old that its Latin equivalent cave canem has been found on signs in Roman ruins. The word watchdog isnt quite as old, but it has been around a long, long time. The first mention of it? By Shakespeare, in The Tempest. Cats heads come in three basic shapes: round, such as on the fluffy Persians; triangular, such as on the sleek, show-bred Siamese and other so-called Oriental breeds; and rectangular, such as on the burly Maine Coon. Most randombred cats tend more toward the triangular head, albeit a less-extreme version than on the show-quality Siamese. The Chow Chow is one of two dog breeds known for a distinctive blue-black tongue. The Chinese Shar-Pei is the other. (HCI, 2007), remain our little, almost-forgotten favorites: bright, fun and interesting, with illustrations by Molly Pearce so wonderful that we have them framed in our offices. We loved researching and writing these two books. Some fun facts we found: Dogs have been taxed for centuries, but the idea of a tag to signify that a dog was licensed seems to date to the late 19th century, when Cincinnati started issuing tags on an annual basis, and other cities and states soon followed suit. Although wooden tags for soldiers were used in the U.S. Civil War to help identify the sound, but on the exhale only. All dogs have pink tongues, with two notable exceptions: the Chow Chow and the Chinese Shar-Pei, both breeds with tongues variously described as purple, black or blue-black. Black spots on tongues are common in many dogs, and are not necessarily an indication that theres a Chow Chow or Shar-Pei in the gene pool, however. Most cats have five toes on their front paws, but only four of them hit the ground. The fifth toe is found on the inside of the front paw. This dewclaw is

Ringworm is often fatal to cats in shelters not because the fungal disease is deadly, but because many shelters kill pets with even mild diseases to prevent the spread of infectious conditions. Veterinary dermatologist Dr. Karen Moriello, clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, is working to change that. She has established a protocol to detect and treat ringworm in cats that is being used in shelters across the country, saving countless feline lives. Equine veterinarian Dr. Kent Allen of Middleburg, Va., filled in TheHorse.com on his role as technical delegate to the London Olympics. His job includes following 90 pages of veterinary guidelines for competitors in Olympic equestrian events, working with a team of veterinarians to keep the horses healthy (and pulling them from competition if theyre not) and making sure everyone is playing fair, with no unapproved performance-enhancing substances. In the beautiful hills of Cooper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico, a young boy (Emilio) is adopted by the mailman (Teo). As part of their daily tasks, they not only deliver the mail but read letters to the villagers, as well as, take dictation, since most are illiterate. Young Emilio quickly learns to read and write but feels saddened by the mostly difficult stories sent by relatives, that moved north to Denver, Colorado in pursuit of a better future. One day Teo becomes disabled and Emilio takes over the mail route and with great imagination, he changes the letters to happy and optimistic stories. Within days, the village is transformed. The elders, once hopeless, lonely and sad, are now happy and enthusiastic, enjoying the "supposed" success their loved ones write from the United States. But the enjoyment is short lived, as they realize that all the wonderful stories are the same, a product of Emilio's imagination. During this same period, Emilio meets a young girl named Elena and they have an innocent friendship that becomes their first love. Director: Llorent Barajas Writer: Martin Barajas Llorent

Everybody is remembered for something. No matter what we do, our actions will ultimately define who we are. Politicians, artists, writers, heroes, and villains all leave legacies behind. So what's DESTRUCTO's legacy? One hell of a good time for hundreds of thousands of people. The Los Angeles-based DJ began building that legacy in 1990 after leaving his very first warehouse party with a tune firmly embedded in his head. The song was 808 State's "Cubik", and he craved it so much that he immediately ran to Melrose Avenue record shop, Street Sounds, to buy it. Our hero didn't leave the store with just a 12-inch of "Cubik" though. DJ Barry Weaver loaded him up with numerous records and he was eager to immerse himself in the revolutionary sounds of early '90s techno. There was just one problem though. "I got home and I realized that I didn't have a record player," laughs DESTRUCTO with a smile. "I was so amped on the music it didn't matter. I went out and bought a turntable, and I started going back to those warehouse parties every Saturday." However, simply going to the parties wasn't enough. DESTRUCTO's passion was so intense that he needed to throw his own. At that point, "The Sermon" was officially born. Donning a priest outfit, he'd host the 6am weekly party after the warehouses had died down early Sunday morning. He needed a DJ though, so he took on the role, getting people to dance after hardcore partying all night. Living up to his apropos moniker, he never deviated from his initial goal. After organizing the now legendary "Magical Mickey's Holy Water Adventure" at Wild Rivers in 1991 and "Raveamerica" on New Year's Eve at Knott's Berry Farm in 1992, he dove into an A&R gig as Rick Rubin's "Techno Boy" at Def American Recordings. Simultaneously, he released his first track, "Rain Dance" in 1994 complete with Indian chants and a Gumby sample. Furthering his success as a DJ and promoter, he launched multiple L.A. hotspots such as The Downtown Standard at night, while breaking new acts like God Lives Underwater and Basement Jaxx by day. As the music industry continued to change at the turn of the century, DESTRUCTO returned to his roots launching the very first HARD Festival in 2007. The artist describes his enigmatic sound best, "I call it 'metal-techno-disco'. I'm trying to do something different when I go into the studio. I'm able to create a new sound channeling everything from 1991 to tomorrow. Electronic music is about creating a vibe, and it's got to make people dance at the end of the day. My formula is to keep it electronic, techno, a bit heavy, but also funky." This year alone, DESTRUCTO has rocked crowds alongside Rusko, Diplo, The Bloody Beetroots and Fatboy Slim as well as performing at international festivals WEMF and Australias Stereosonic. Ultimately, with massive performances on the horizon, DESTRUCTO is doing exactly that giving fans the time of their lives and that's one hell of a legacy. Radio One Ibiza Weekend where he has hosted the main stage 2 years running. In turn, Doorly landed residencies at Wax: On, Metropolis and Ibiza Rocks where he also now presents the Ibiza Rocks Podcast. More recently, hes also added Manumissions new Ibiza techno / dubstep creation Reclaim the Dancefloor @ Eden (A night that he also programmes) to the list and earned a regular place on Radio Ones Annie Mac presents tour; as well as Zane Lowes DJ Hero tour and regular upcoming sets for some opf the UKs leading clubs including Chibuku & Manchesters Warehouse Project. With him, his usual epic DJ set up: 3 CDJs, 2 x 1210s, an EFX unit and a Pioneer 800! In addition to his residencies and guesting for others, Doorlys own night, Afterparty, in his hometown of Huddersfield, was recently voted Galaxy radios Best Club Night and listed as Mixmags number one UK club night, attracting the likes of 2manyDJs, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Armand Van Helden, Eric Prydz & Calvin Harris in the past 6 months alone. Indeed, spinning from the Ukraine to Australia, Germany to Egypt, Doorly has played directly alongside dances finest and most diverse such as Groove Armada, Chase and Status, Kissy Sell Out, Tiga, Fake Blood, Skream, Pendulum, Boys Noize, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Proxy, Scratch Perverts, Benga, Grooverider, Sinden and Soulwax to (literally) name but a few as well as an epic 3 hour 3 way back 2 back session with Zane Lowe and Mark Ronson in Ibiza! Ive spent a hell of a lot of time on transatlantic flights and tour buses this year says Doorly. But whats happening in America right now is so exciting for our scene and the world of music has all of a sudden become a much smaller place. Given Doorly is known as something of a dexterous talent behind the decks whether playing to 65 in a sweaty basement or to 50, 000 in an American arena its no wonder gear giants Pioneer have him road testing and giving design input on their kit (as a Pro-DJ along with the likes of James Zabiela) months before it comes out. Now settled back in London, Doorlys plan for 2012 is to continue writing, playing and unearthing the freshest electronic sounds from across the board youd be mad not to join in.

Scratching and splicing riffs, loops, beats and bass to form a sonically seamless, mash-up masterpiece as seen on his recent Radio 1 mini-mix for Annie Mac; its understandable that Doorly is often described as an old school block party DJ using new school technology. ASK THE PRO

By T.J. TOMASI
ITS GOOD FOR YOUR GAME GOLF SPOKEN HERE

Go with the flow

As you swing back to the ball from the top, your pelvis should be sliding toward the target because it leads the weight flow onto your front hip, then it fires toward the target. If you stop your core half-way to the ball, your swing sequence is disrupted, and it becomes impossible to keep your hands ahead of the clubhead, so you release the club early with a weak, slapping action. You see this in golfers who stop to hit, but you dont see it in good players, who keep their core moving through impact. Your golf swing is a system for moving force around. Once the flow is in motion, everything that is moving should keep on moving until it can move no more. How will you know if you keep everything moving in your swing? Make a video of your swing and look for two straight arms.

Chili dip
Also called hitting it fat. Usually a short pitch or chip shot around the green where you hit the ground before the ball. Its caused most often by trying to get under the ball to get it into the air.
BIRDIES AND BOGEYS

Both Arms Straight

There is only one time during the swing when both arms are straight, and thats just after impact. Its a key checkpoint you can use to determine the sequence and flow of your swing. Its impossible to keep your arms fully extended if your core has not done its job. Its a good idea to pose with both arms straight in the post-impact position with the butt of the club pointing at your belly button. Then make some swings in slow motion, concentrating on keeping everything moving.

Q: My wife tells me Im very hard on myself and get all down when Im playing bad. I hate playing bad, so how can I be OK when Im not playing well? B.D. A: Nobody likes playing poorly, but it sounds like you need a new perspective. Ill repeat what your wife has probably told you: One of the initial keys to enjoying golf is to stop judging yourself as good or bad based on how you play that day. Give yourself a break. You dont think any less of an individual, friend or foe, if he blows a shot or a round. The problem is that our culture is very success- and performance-oriented. Our accomplishments give us pleasure, so in turn, our failures bring us down. The key in golf is to be at your best when things are at their worst. Anyone can be at their best when things are going great. (To Ask the Pro a question about golf, email him at: pblion@aol.com.)

This player is older, bigger and stronger, but much shorter off the tee than the younger play to the right because his pelvis sputters through the ball.

Notice how far this younger, smaller and weaker players pelvis has moved toward the target just before impact. Thats why hes much longer off the tee than the player to the left.

Drivers asked about Smiths mandatory caution idea generally said they were opposed to it. I just think when we start using cautions to make the race more exciting, I think thats going down a slippery slope, Carl Edwards said. I dont think its good for the sport. Thats my opinion from where I sit. That doesnt mean its right, thats just my opinion. He said that auto racing, by its nature, isnt going to have a Game Seven moment every time. trip back to Daytona International Speedway for the traditional start of the second half of the NASCAR season has become a time to reflect on the good and bad of the first half of the year. And while Saturdays Coke Zero 400 at Daytona had plenty of excitement late in the race due to multi-car crashes and cau-

tions, the conversation at Daytona before the race was about the lack of such at many races this year. The first half of the 400 was relatively uneventful as well. The week before at Kentucky Speedway, track owner Bruton Smith proposed mandatory caution periods or timeouts at certain intervals in the race,

with the idea that the double-file restarts that followed those cautions would provide action and drama that has been missing in many races. Call it what you want, but youve got to have caution flags, Smith told reporters at his Kentucky track. That creates excitement. You cant just sit there with nothing happening. It ruins the event.

Its damaging to our sport. NASCAR chairman Brian France said in his mid-season session with the press at Daytona that Smiths ideas wont fly. Its a very clear line to us, he said. What were not going to do are gimmicky things. Ive heard we ought to throw a caution every ten laps. Thats nonsense. We wont do

gimmicky things. But well do things that incentivize performance, incentivize wins. That we are open to. The wild card does that. It does it in an authentic way. NASCAR has, in recent seasons, added double-file restarts, the free pass rule, green-white-checkeredflag finishes and even the Chase format and several modifications to it in attempts to spice up the action. Some say that many

If you let these races play out naturally, and let the racing be racing, sometimes there are some wild things that happen, and things happen that are unexpected, and thats what makes that true, real drama that happens every once in a while. And sometimes races dont play out that way, and thats OK, too, he said. If a guy wins by three laps, well, he was meant to win by three laps, and you dont want to take that away from that guy and that team, he said. Edwards said that doing things any other way cheapens the sport. You cant fabricate competition, he said. Thats whats so great about our sport. Theres a whole other world there politics and the real world where everybody is changing the rules all the time to try and get an advantage. We might as well just leave sports alone, and may the best man win.

A.J. Allmendinger suspended

A.J. Allmendinger, temporarily suspended from NASCAR after he didnt pass a random drug test, faces an uncertain future in the sport. Allmendinger, who has a one-year deal to drive the No. 22 Dodge for Penske Racing, was suspended just hours before the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. He was replaced by Sam Hornish Jr., who flew in from Charlotte, N.C., and arrived at the track just minutes before the race. Hornish finished 33rd after a blown tire took him out of contention. NASCARs Vice President of Racing Operations Steve ODonnell read a statement to members of the media at Daytona, but did not answer questions. ODonnells statement was: Driver A.J. Allmendinger has been temporarily suspended from NASCAR competition based upon a notification of a positive A test NASCAR received from the Medical Review Officer as stated in Section 19-11B (6, 7) of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy. Pursuant to the rule book, Allmendinger has the opportunity to request within the next 72 hours that his B sample be tested. NASCAR will follow its policies and procedures set forth in the rule book in dealing with this matter. Its not Allmendingers first problem of that nature. In 2009, while driving for Richard Petty Motorsports, he was cited with drunk driving after a late-night traffic A.J. Allmendinger stop in North Carolina. (NASCAR photo) He was given a suspended sentence, probation and community service after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired. Allmendingers Penske Racing team issued a brief statement. It read in part: NASCAR notified Penske Racing this afternoon that A.J. Allmendinger was administered a drug test earlier this week, and those results tested positive. NASCAR has a strict drug testing program that Penske Racing fully supports. Penske Racing will work with NASCAR through this process and its next steps.

Its a win-win with Mazdas Skyactiv 3

Whats really nice about the Mazda 3 Skyactive is that there are no buttons to push, no dials to rotate, or special procedures to follow. Just drive the car as a normal 3 and thats because it basically is a normal 3. With the Skyactiv system, the 3 makes 155 hp thats 7 hp more than the base 2.0 fourcylinder. And the base engine can only achieve 33 mpg on the highway, showing that with Skyactiv, you not only get betThe inside has been changed every-so-slightly, but the basic design is still in place with the small navigation screen tucked way back on the top of the dash. The steering wheel continues to be of perfect shape and size although its littered with buttons. The gauges are housed in their own binnacles, similar to those found in more expensive cars, and the center console is neatly designed and looks attractive. As before,

fun as any 3 in the lineup, short of the hot-rod Mazdaspeed 3. Even with Skyactiv, the 3 retains its excellent road and steering manners and continues to live up to its Zoom Zoom fun marketing theme. For the Skyactiv system, expect to pay around $980 more over the base Mazda 3, which is very reasonable when you consider you are getting more power and better fuel efficiency. In their TV spot, Mazda claims, We dont compromise. The 3 with Skyactiv is proof of that. Excellent fuel economy, more power, and still fun to drive. No tricks, and like they say, no comprises. The Mazda 3 Skyactiv is for real and may be best compact car out there.

Hybrids. All electric. Diesel. When it comes to making the most fuel efficient cars, auto manufactures seem to take different approaches. The past ten years has shown that hybrids, using a combination of a gas engine and an electric motor can yield great fuel economy. And recently, cars that run solely on electricity are gaining in popularity but still have a ways to go when it comes to long driving ranges. And diesel engines, around for what seems to be forever, have proven to be very fuel efficient and are very popular overseas. But when Mazda decided to come out with a fuel efficient version of their popular Mazda 3, they had to decide which road to take. Well, it seems like they left the tricks in the bag and came up with a different,

but simple approach. Which brings us to Skyactiv. The Mazda 3 with the new Skyactiv system can hit that 40 mpg mark without the use of diesel engines, electric motors or other hi-tech features. Basically, Mazda engineers built a 2.0 liter four-cylinder gas engine that is highly efficient and matted it to standard six-speed

manual transmission (or sixspeed automatic) with special gear ratios. The new, lightweight engine/tranny combination along with a lighter frame and chassis setup is dubbed Skyactiv. With the manual, it can get 28 mpg in town and 40 mpg on the highway. Those numbers drop by 1 mpg for the automatic.

ter efficiency, but also more power. Its like having your cake and eating it too. If fuel economy isnt a concern for 3 buyers, the 2.5 liter 167 hp four is still available. Back to the Skyactive system, it is available in either the sedan or hatchback version of the 3. For 2012, Mazda has refreshed the car by giving the side profile a bit more of an aggressive look around the wheel arches. But dont worry that smiling front grill, love it or hate it, still remains. By The Numbers:

seating in the Mazda 3 is very good although taller folks may be cramped in the back seat. My week spent with a blue 3 sedan with the Skyactiv system and the six-speed manual went off without a hitch. Most of my driving was in the city with an occasional romp on the highway showed that I averaged 39.8 mpg according to the onboard computer. I couldnt really notice the Skyactiv 3 being more powerful than the normal 3, but I was happy to see that this fuel-efficient 3 was still as

Tony Stewarts fourth career victory in the July race at Daytona, the 47th of his career and the third this season, have him looking like a driver who could repeat as Sprint Cup champion, Tony Stewart which would (NASCAR photo) give him four Cup titles. Stewart said in his winners interview that hes been very pleased with his teams performance over the first half of the season. I think on the average, were really looking good right now On the average, I feel like were making gains. He said he was especially proud of his teams performance in qualifying at Daytona, even though his time was disallowed because a hose came loose. was third, just a fraction of a second behind him. I think qualifying was what I was most proud of for the weekend, and even though we lost our time, having those two cars come here and be second and third separated by only eight thousandths of a second shows how good a job the guys did at our race shop, he said. Newman went on to finish fifth in the 400, breaking a string of disappointing runs that saw him finish no better than 12th in the 11 races between his win at Martinsville and his top-five at Daytona. It was big for us, especially with the stretch coming up, Newman said, adding that hes especially looking forward to this weeks race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He said the Loudon track is a place which we at Stewart-Haas have done an awesome job at in the past. And he said that while he left Daytona trailing Joey Logano by one point in the race for a wildcard Chase berth, hes optimistic going forward. We are still in plenty of contention there with the No. 20 car right now, he said.

Crash scuttles Awesome Bill

For a time during Saturdays race at Daytona, 56-year-old Bill Elliott was looking a lot like the Awesome Bill of the early 1980s, the driver who once dominated races on NASCARs biggest and fastest tracks. Elliott, driving the No. 50 Chevrolet for a Turner Motorsports team that was making its first Sprint Cup start, qualified seventh and ran third for a long stretch in the opening segment of the race. He was still in contention when he was collected in a multi-car crash on Lap 123 of 160. We were just a victim of the circumstances, he said. But man, I was proud of all those guys on Turner Motorsports and Walmart. Thats the best Ive run in a long time. The car drove so well. I could go anywhere on the race track and just wait around biding my time and just seeing where were going to play out at the end. He said the current rules make it much harder to race than it was back in the day. You could hardly pass, man, he said. I mean when I was running third there early on in the race, I ran every lap wide open and never came off the bottom. And thats kind of where you were. Elliott, who has made just one other start this season, at Talladega, said his opportunities to race are becoming less frequent, and any start could be his last.

Busch happy to deliver win for Finch

One of the feel-good stories from Daytona was Kurt Buschs victory in Fridays Subway Jalapeno 250 Nationwide Series race. It came in James Finchs unsponsored Chevrolet. Its the same owner and crew that Busch drives for in Sprint Cup. Thats what James Finch is all about, Busch said. He loves Daytona, and Im happy that we were able to deliver. All of [the crew] came out to the start/finish line to be a part of the celebration. Its all about heart, and its all about passion with these guys, and I couldnt be more proud of this team effort tonight. Pole-sitter Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished second, followed by Michael Annett. The race saw a Nationwide Series track record 42 lead changes among 16 drivers.
