Measurement Calculations

1. Is your bedroom a regular three-dimensional figure? If so, what type of three-dimensional figure is your bedroom? See Lesson 8-8 in your textbook for help.

2. What type of two-dimensional shapes make up the faces and bases of the figure you described in #1?

3. Square footage is often a term that designers, architects, and real-estate agents use to describe the amount of space that is in a room, apartment, or house. Use the formula for area to calculate the square footage of your bedroom. Show all work.

4. In order to paint a room, we need to know the surface area of the walls/ceiling that we will be paining. Using your measurements and the surface area formula, calculate the surface area for your room.

5. The surface area calculates the area of the walls, ceilings, and floors in the figure. Would we need to paint all of these spaces? If not, subtract the areas of the spaces that we will not be painting.

If the wood is older or dried out, you will use more polyurethane. If the wood is newer, you will get more out of the gallon. Also, using two coats will give you more protection for a longer period of time. How much polyurethane will you use to cover the floor of your room? How much will this cost?
