what is biometrics??????? And why do we need it???

Biometrics is the identification or verification of human identity through the measurement of repeatable physiological and behavioral characteristics.

Hand scan
Typical systems measure 90 different features:
Overall hand and finger width Distance between joints Bone structure

Signature

Time & length b/w

Benefits: 1) Difficult to mimic the

behavior of signing

2)Low false acceptance

Voice or Speech
Depends on the pitch., but mainly based on how that

person speaks. Classification 1) Text dependent 2) Text independent

APPLICATIONS:
Personal finger safes Medical field

Daily life applications

1)Attendance 2)Financial Security 3) Law Enforcement 4)Immigration and Airports
Future application:

1) Body scanning in Airports

2) Electronic passports

Disadvantages of BIOMETRICS:
The finger print of those people working in Chemical industries are often affected. Therefore these companies should not use the finger print mode of authentication. It is found that with age, the voice of a person differs. Also when the person has flu or throat infection the voice changes or if there are too much noise in the environment this method may not authenticate correctly. Therefore this method of verification is not workable all the time For people affected with diabetes, the eyes get affected resulting in differences. Biometrics is an expensive security solution.

Conclusion
Though this technology has its own

disadvantages .. Security personnel look for biometric data that does not change over the course of your life; that is, they look for physical characteristics that stay constant and that are difficult to fake or change on purpose. More advanced improvisation of this technology is needed.
