BIOREACTOR
1. INTRODUCTION The MBR process involves a suspended growth activated sludge system that utilizes micro porous membranes for solid/liquid separation .
An emerging advances wastewater treatment technology , ever increasing number of locations around the world.
This very compact arrangement produces a MF/UF quality effluent suitable for reuse applications . Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) combine the use of biological processes and membrane technology to treat wastewater
With the limited supply of potable water to support communities and environmental conditions are overcome here.
What is MBR?
Technology that combines an activated sludge reactor with a membrane filtration unit to purify wastewater. It is very difficult to maintain stable operating conditions when operating a membrane directly on wastewater due.; Waste activated sludge is purged from the bioreactor directly and in very small quantity; Membrane bioreactors operated at long sludge ages .
The activated sludge, mainly consisting of flocculating microorganisms, is mixed in the activation tank with dissolved oxygen and wastewater
The organic material present in the water in dissolved and colloidal state is converted or respired into biomass. Consisting of a reactor with continuous flow. The quality of the purification result depends on the settling properties of the sludge flocs.
TREATMENT
Wastewater is screened before entering in tank. To retain the active biomass , the MBR relies on submerged membrane rather than clarifiers Treated water is separated from the purifying bacteria (active sludge) by a process of membrane filtration & the treated effluent passes through the membrane The sludge concentration and reactor capacity are quite high. The suspended solids are held back completely by the membranes with pore sizes of about 0.1 to 0.4 m
ENERGY CONSUMPTION
Waste water treatment plant. Municipal and industrial water treatment. Residential and commercial developments.
ADVANTAGES OF MBR
Reduced Footprint. low sludge production. high biomass concentration stable process operation Treatment of wastewater with salt
