anico is the Philippines number one
department store chain. We operate 66 stores in the country with several branches in Asia and Europe. Primarily sell men's, women's, and children's apparel and accessories, cosmetics, and home furnishings, among other things

Company History
Jose Mendoza our current CEO, founded anico in 1956 The company began as a fashion company and retailer of women's wear, lingerie and beauty products in 1932 and was then called Joses World. Since then we have grown to be worlds 7th largest fashion goods retailer and the 96th largest retailer overall, based on the company's reported 2011 retail sales revenue.

Whats in a name?
A brief trivia we have always been a green company, our name itself anico is derived from the Spanish translation of the word organic (organico). The name also has several other word plays: 1. AniCo. (Ani Corporation) which means Harvest Corporation. 2. ACo/ Ako/ Ani Ko (My Harvest) Which not only represents ones individuality but also our companys goal to educate everyone there own responsibilities to our environment.

Responsible Development
Were in luck since anico just recently opened its newest branch at Katipunan Avenue, and of course RD was practiced.

Responsible Development
anico takes pride for being one of the
few companies who invests in Responsible Development. As the name implies this means that any building constructed by our organization undergoes careful planning such that it offer healthy, comfortable, safe and productive environments for their users.

RD Objectives
The RD project aims that all anico building plans use materials that have, on average, 30% recycled content or more. To ensure the reduction of the volume of waste generated during a project. Monitor site energy use during construction to calculate the carbon footprints of construction sites. Produce a biodiversity action plans for all new and major refurbishment projects. Develop educational tools to ensure delivery of good environmental practice.

RD Procedures
First step towards responsible building is a clever design. This we plan on achieving by collaborating with local up and coming Environmental Design Companies who will design intelligently for us and the environment. Consult reputed Construction Firms and build responsibly. Hire and take care of competent local employees who will in turn work and operate efficiently. Continually review our approach on protecting and enhancing biodiversity in order to develop a clear way forward

RD Outcomes

RD Outcomes
Establish a green and efficient facility that will satisfy both our customers and mother earth. During the construction of our newest branch we were able to reduce the volume of waste generated 6 tonnes per 100m2 (gross internal area).

RD Expected Outcomes
A committed firm who will pursue a reduction of its operational carbon emissions by 15% over the next 10 years . Stores monthly operational cost will be significantly lower than other similar establishments.

anico has allocated a budget of around
P500 M for the construction of the new branch (56,212 square feet) which means every square foot costs around P10k.

Although anico will always build responsibly for this presentation the time frame we will use is those of our newest chain which took 2 3 years to build.

Smart Shopping

SS Objectives
To promote an eco-friendly lifestyle through shopping by requiring our customers to use actual bags (preferably made out of recycled materials) as shopping bags instead of plastic bags. To provide work for poor housewives To lessen waste production

SS Procedures
Buy recycled materials from junk shops (Tetra packs and Newspapers) or get the recyclables from the Materials Recovery Facility of the department store. Provide these materials for employees to work on. Position the bags on all cashiers; implementation of the no plastic policy Sell each bag for 300-600 pesos (depends on the size and design)

For the Forest as Well


anico holds an annual retreat for its
employees during which one activity is tree planting. In line with this we would like to expand and involve our customers in helping to rebuild our bald forests.

FFW Objectives
Help rebuild our forest.

Grow trees where they are mostly needed to help rehabilitate the ecological system.

FFW Procedures
Collaborate with Haribon Foundation in aiding us with our planting project. For every 7000 pesos worth of single purchase, anico will plant a small tree during our annual company retreat and place it under the customers name. The trees that are offered varies to ensure great biodiversity.

FFW Expected Outcomes


Successfully help in rebuilding the abused and damaged forests the Philippines. Have a more meaningful company retreat.

Show for an Environmental Cause

anico is one of the worlds leading
Fashion outlets, and we would like to use this influence of ours to promote a very special causes. For this project, fashion will take a different turn in addressing another pressing issue in modern times: the Environment.

FGG Objectives
Project an environmental awareness to both the public and the industries of textile and clothing. Be a charity event where the profit would be donated to our partner foundation, Haribon. A research where designers seek more environmentally healthy materials and ideas for our clothes.

FGG Procedures
Collaborate with designers, models, celebrities and a crew who will help making this event possible. Tickets will be sold for the fund raising. At the end of the show their will be a segment where the innovations discovered by the designers will be revealed.

Public Awareness of the better choices when it comes to purchasing one of the most basic human needs, clothing. Aiding environmental charities such as Haribon Foundation Quality research by the top designers on better substitute and technology on textile clothing.

anico allows 8 months for the planning
and perpetrating of this revolutionary Fashion Show. This includes the harnessing of sponsors for the show and other technicalities such as signing on celebrities and designers for free, blocking the show, finding a venue, estimating attendance, and whatnot.

Bottle Furniture
Here at anico we recognize the power of water bottles. People nowadays are undeniably dependent on them. And we have devised a way to recycle them.

BF Objectives
To lessen cutting of trees by using recycled water bottles as the main material for furniture production To reduce the amount of disposed plastic bottles To save energy by using recycled materials instead of raw (virgin) materials and also reduce green house gas emissions Employ less-privileged people Encourage people to buy eco-friendly furniture

BF Procedures
Integrate waste disposal in the mall (have special trash bins for plastic bottles) Send collected plastic bottles into a recycling plant Use the poly-lumber or poly-wood produced from recycling to create new furniture

Less demand for wood and less water bottles being disposed People would be aware about the benefits of this project to the environment Consumers making informed decisions when buying furniture by choosing our environment-friendly products
