Guidelines to III Trimester Students

1.Visiting the company Industry Profile, Company Profile & Department Details
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the organization You have to report to the corporate/industrial guide. Try to learn about the companys profile including its management and organizational structure, Financial and HR Practices , products/services, turnover, SWOT analysis , competitor strategy etc. Get the information from Browsing from the net or from the organization &, however do not simply cut, copy and dump the matter to the guide. Read, understand , edit the content and send only the relevant information in organized form. Any matter that is sent should be verified and evaluated by the concerned

guides therefore and the student is expected to know thoroughly about the information before sending. First submission to your faculty Guide -Page limit -30 to 40 Date- 26th July 2012 - 10 marks

2.Identifying the Research Areas - Selection of Research Problem


The student is expected to identify the broad area in which he or she

would be doing research The student would have to decide the core area of the study on Marketing, Finance, HRM, Operations etc. Again in the area chosen, the student has to identify the specific problem for his/her research. For example Logistics and its effect on profitability Ratio analysis based on the Annual Balance Sheet Advertisement and the Sales practices Identifying the market potentiality of different products including financial practices

3.Review of work done to be presented at SSIM Campus

Identification of Research Objectives ( Type of research

Exploratory, Descriptive, Causal, etc.) It is very important stage of the research process. All the students have to identify and state their Research topic and primary and secondary objectives of their study clearly. Besides, the scope, type of research design should be more precise. They should identify the source of data collection for their study. If it is primary data, they should specify the method adopted by them for data collection. If it is secondary data, the sources and the validity of data should be authoritative and accurate.

4.Identification of Research Objectives ( Type of research - Exploratory, Descriptive, Causal, etc.)


It is very important stage of the research process. All the

students have to identify and state their Research topic and data collection (primary and secondary objectives of their study clearly) Besides, the scope, type of research design should be more precise. If it is primary data, they should specify the method adopted by them for data collection. If it is secondary data, the sources and the validity of data should be authoritative and accurate. Date- 28th August 2012 10 marks

5.Sample selection, Questionnaire design, Questionnaire Primary or Secondary & Field work

Primary data may be collected from the universe or if they can take a sample. If a sample survey - what type of sampling (probability or non-probability), sample size, any type of hypothesis that the student would be testing, Questionnaire and questionnaire have to detailed. How many questions, why they are being asked, would scaling be used, if so what type of scales should be explained by you. Area/location of Field work also should be detailed. Who would do the field

work, self or in teams, duration for field work and finally the students have to specify the limitations of their research. Date 3rd September 2011 20 marks

6.Evaluation from Industry Guide


A letter of evaluation will be sent to the industry guide

to judge the performance of the student and will mark the student on a 1 to 10 scale. The industry guide is supposed to evaluate the students performance and give it to the student in a sealed cover. This letter has to be submitted in the college by 13th September 2011.

7.Data Analysis & Preparing Rough draft print out


Data analysis is the crucial task of the project work. The data collected has to be analyzed using SPSS/Data analysis

and excel. Apply appropriate statistical /quantitative techniques likeMeasures of Central tendency, Correlation, Regression, Factor Analysis ,Ratio Analysis and other valid tests have to be estimated /conducted. Hypothesis should be tested and results have to be given. The faculty guides would guide the student and a rough draft has to be submitted in a typed format without fail on due date

8.Presentation
It is very important task Each student would be given 15 minutes time to give a PPT presentation to explain his /her project to a panel of examiners. The panel will not have the guide but it includes the faculty (SSIM) The student will have to face the questions posed by the panel. The student has to record and implement the changes in their reports suggested by the panel. Date- 3rd October 2012 50 marks

9.Final Report 50 marks


Final report has to be bound and the student has to submit two hard

copies and the soft copy. The presentation style of the report is very important. It should contain all the elements of a project report and they should be incorporated in it. Marks will be awarded for different parameters like clarity, presentation, and good language. Students would be penalized for net downloads, bad language , not following the structure, for mismatch between the objectives and the final results. Students would be failed if we find out that the project is copied or an adaptation of an earlier project.
