As a self-defense platform, Pikal is carried out holding a knife in reverse grip with the sharpened edge facing inward toward the user. Spyderco Sleek Knife: The blade intertwines elements of both a Spear-Point and a Wharncliffe shape and tapers to a super-fine, flat-ground, PlainEdged tip. The blade is CPM-S30V high-carbon and therefore highly edge-retentive Corrugated furrows machined above the hole into the blade's steel artistically continue through to adjoining black G-10 handle adding a grip-able texture through stylish graphics. Narrowing to a tip at the handle's back end the folder takes on a spike-like profile with a horizontal straight on the bottom of the knife running from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle. Inside is a Michael Walker Liner Lock, while outside the Micarta scales come assembled with an adjustable pivot and scale screws. A deep-pocket wire clip positions the folder for tip-down, right-hand carry.

In our case its an Ed Schempp folder that is symmetrically identical on both ends when the folder is closed.

Odd looks aside, when held in the hand its ergonomically proportional and a natural fit.
The VG-10 blade is full-flat ground and arcs upward a radical curve with a deep finger choil. When the index finger is positioned in the choil, the cutting edge aligns with the forearm moving the blades weight back and the center of gravity toward the cutting edge. The enlarged Spyderco Round Hole is dead center on the blade when closed and perfectly off-centered when open, justifying the name Balance. Handle scales are gray carbon fiber and assembled with screws for cleaning and adjustment. Four-way, left/right, tip-up/tip-down hourglass clip, clips discreetly in a pocket. Piped lanyard. Symphonic fit and finish.
