There are two parts in Indirect Speech.

They are Reporting Verb and Reported Word

Tono says,

I am very good at English.

Reporting Verb

Reported Word

If the Reporting Verbs are in Present Tense, Future Tense and Present Perfect, the tenses of Reported Word do not change. Examples : Ina says, I like music very much. Ina says that she likes music very much. Adi will say, No body is late. Adi will say that no body is late. Ida has said, I have taken a bath. Ida has said that she has taken a bath.

If the Reporting Verbs are in Past Tense and Past Perfect Tense, the tenses and the adverbs of Reported Word will change.

IMPERATIVE (COMMAND/REQUEST)
Positive Imperative if the reported word is positive imperative, the verb in indirect becomes to infinitive. Examples :

He said, Go away! Come here!, she said. I said, Be quite!

IMPERATIVE (COMMAND/REQUEST)

Negative Imperative if the reported word is negative imperative, the verb in indirect becomes not to infinitive.

Examples :
He said, Dont go away! Dont cry, He said. I said, Dont be noisy! He begged, Dont be lazy! He He I He told asked begged warned me her them not to go away.

STATEMENT
If the reported words are positive or negative

statement, the conjunction uses speech. Examples :


Anto told me, I will go now. Anto told me that he would go then. Susan said to me, I dont like eating bakso.

Susan said to me that she didnt like eating bakso. I told Ida, Ria came here last night. I told Ida that Ria had come there the night before. Robert told John, My father is leaving for Singapore tomorrow. Robert told John that his father was leaving for Singapore the following day.

YES NO QUESTION
If the reported words are Yes No Questions, the conjunction uses if / whether in reported speech. Examples :

Adi asked me, Are you still sick? Adi asked me if/whether I was still sick. Father asked Sinta, Will you go to the party tonight? Father asked Sinta if/whether she would go to the party that night. The teacher asked Nina, Did you study English last night. The teacher asked Nina if/whether she had studied English the night before.

QUESTION WORDS QUESTION


If the reported words are interrogative sentences that use question words, the cunjunction in reported speech is the question word itself. Examples :

Tina asked me, Who are you? Tina asked me Who I was. Tono asked Susan, Where did you go yesterday? Tono asked Susan Where she had gone the day before. Father asked Johan, When will you finish your study? Father asked Johan When he would finish his study. The teacher asked the students, What are you doing now?
The teacher asked the students What they were doing then.

Change the sentences into Indirect Speech. 1. The doctor said, Eat more fruit and vegetable. 2. He said to her, Dont worry about it! 3. I said him, Dont come before at 6 oclock! 4. Prabu said, Im thinking of going to live in Jakarta. 5. Donny said, My father is in hospital now. 6. Nora said, I havent seen Bill for a while. 7. Nunik asked me, Why do you want me to tell it to him?. 8. Rosa asked me, What time will you pick me up? 9. The stranger asked me, What is your name? 10. I asked Nunik, Have you told what I said to you?
